About the Business
We are not authentic Thai food, nor any Thai restaurants here in America. Why? We don’t have all of the ingredients like we do in Thailand. But who are we? We’re just passionate people who love food and love to share great food like how we would cook back at home. We understand that not everyone have the same palate, and in no means we would expect everyone to love our food. We appreciate all the amazing comments and reviews. We would also appreciate our dear customers to send us private message on anything you think we need to improve on. “Chim” in Thai means to try and taste.” Chim Thai Street Food is the taste of Thai street food. Because who doesn’t love street food? Street foods are moms and pops making a living, cooking food base on their palates. What does your reviews mean to us? It means that we can stay in business. It means that we won’t lose all of the savings we used to invest into our business. It means that our team can feed our families. It means we can send money back at home to help our families. It means we can pay our debts. And it means the world to us. So thank you, you all mean everything to us.

Can you make any vegan dishes (without meat, fish, eggs or milk)?

Are the serving sizes big enough to share?

Almost. I'm a pretty good eater. I had food left over but I don't think it would have been enough for another person, if they're a hearty eater and ways starving....like me. Get an appetizer and a meal and that would work!!

Update:
You can see the character of these people when their response to my review is literally an essay implying all homeless people are just lazy. I'm a social worker that have worked in homeless services many years. Nobody chooses to be homeless. We will never understand what someone if going through unless we are in their exact shoes. It shouldn't matter weather other people don't like being around homeless people. That's called prejudice and discrimination. Homelessness can happen to anyone at any time. And they have completely missed the plot of this situation because this person was not homeless and could have easily eaten her food at home. And how is their response relevant to this situation when the lady was clearly trying to pay and was not asking for any favors despite obviously not being in any shape to work. She just wanted to be treated like any other customer. It is clear now that this establishment has a policy of discriminating against homeless individual as well as elderly disabled individuals that they perceive look too homeless.

The minor irritation is the fact that they advertise vegan options when almost nothing on the menu can be made vegan. Something we have never experienced at any Thai place. The ordered curry (the only vegan item) and it wasn't very good. I was was very watery as opposed to creamy and not particularly flavorful.
However, the real reason for the one star is their lack of kindness and empathy. This elderly lady came in that looked like she may be unhoused. She had to ask them for like 10 minutes to give her a menu. They finally gave her one to get rid of her. She went to sit quietly outside (where there were zero customers) to look at the menu. Then they called the playhouse district employees to come get her. She tried to order soup and rice and had money ready to pay. They refused to take her order. We spoke to her outside and she told us she had a place to live but is disabled. She asked us to help her order.
We went inside to try and order her some plain soup and rice to go. The manager (I think) comes and explains that they won't serve her anymore even though she's not one of the "crazy" homeless people because the previous day she had gotten sick (obviously not her fault) after eating there. She acknowledged that she knew she had money to pay. They literally refused to allow us to buy her soup to go to eat elsewhere even after we expressed our discontent on how they were treating the lady. A lady that was kind and sweet and assured us she no longer has an upset stomach. If the only reason you won't serve her is you don't want her getting sick on site then why can't she order take out?
The entire scene was sad and horrible to watch. What has the world come to when a hungry little old lady with a disability can't get a restaurant to take her perfectly good money for simple soup and rice.
We will never go here again and will advise our friends and all of our social media followers do do the same.Helpful 5Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1Business owner information

I understand your sympathies. First off, the old lady came and sat in front of Dash Coffee for about nearly 3 hours the night before to come over and tell us she had threw up in front of the coffee shop. We offered her water and food to help her. Unfortunately, we experienced many homeless issue which sometimes comes with them harassing our customers and staffs.
We understand every one is different and same with everyone has different opinions. However, from experience, once someone buys a homeless person food, even togo, we’re also obligated to allow them to stay as now they are a paid customer. My question is, if we allow that, and a homeless person stay and dine, will you stay and dine with them? How about other customers that are also sitting and paid for their experience? Would our customers be comfortable to eat while smelling BO of a homeless person? As many of our experienced, most leave right away. Dash Coffee Bar even had a bad Yelp review for allowing a homeless person to stay onsite. So who’s right and who’s wrong? While everyone may have a different opinion, our way to protect our customers, staffs, and business is to kindly ask our customers not to support more homeless become homeless.
There’s a saying, “give a man fish, he gets fed for a day, but if you teach a man to fish, he gets fed the life time.” My believe goes for everyone. As we live in the land of opportunity, everyone has the opportunity and freedom. As a person who had lived and grew up in a slump of a third world country, I’ve seen homelesses with no opportunity, no help from the government, no money to buy food. If a homeless comes and ask me for a job, I will gladly give a job with an open arm because that will feed them the whole life.
When I say this is the land of opportunity, I mean it because we are very fortunate to be in America. No matter who you are, you have opportunity to do and be anything you want. If people who speaks no word of English, never finished elementary like my parents can survive raising 2 kids fighting and willing to do anything and everything, anyone can. If a girl who was born and raised in a slump can be here to tell you the story, anyone can. I have the most sympathy for homelesses, those with no opportunities, no help from government, those who fight to survive, but I honestly have no sympathy for those who choose to be homeless when opportunity is all around.
Your kindness and generosity is appreciated and I applaud your humanity. I too have many lives to feed as we are just a small business trying to survive. Giving every customers the experience they deserve is our job, sometimes it comes with making tough and what seems to be heartless decisions. As you can see, we gave a fish to a man, and man comes back to ask for more fishes. While you are completely comfortable to sit and dine with a homeless, I’m not sure if others feel the same as they also feel like they paid to be here. See, we all have different opinions, I hope you understand. Thank you. - Mar 28, 2024Updated review

10/10. Best Thai place in Pasadena hands down.
Can't go wrong with the curries, crispy chicken, and pad see ew.
Lax vibes with super friendly service from the servers.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 8, 2023Previous reviewSoooooooooooo Delicious.
When my family and I walked in, we were quickly greeted by the server. The energy in there was upbeat and it felt like people were happy to be there. Atmosphere was inviting. The server was very attentive and kept us refilled on waters without needing to ask which is always awesome.
We ordered four entrees to share and the crispy chicken skin app to share with the table.
The crispy chicken skins are a must get. After all, it is the best part of any chicken meal.
All the food was so flavorful and well executed. The fried rice and the crispy chicken skin alone are enough to have me coming back.
I'm a curry lover so for sure had to get curry. It needed a bit of salt to bring out the depth in the other ingredients but other than that it was really good!
If you're always going for the safe bet if pad Thai, I say switch it up one time and try the pad see ew. It's so good! Savory and sweet.
The menus are scanned off a QR code. There weren't any bathrooms in the restaurant but there are two other storefronts next to it that might have bathrooms. Parking is also pretty rough especially with the construction happening on union street. We had to park a block down the street.
This is definitely my go to Thai place in Pasadena as of now. - Mar 24, 20242 check-ins
Love the feel of the restaurant. Seems like it's family owned and just feels very welcoming. Chim and Dash next door have the same owner so we first grabbed a coffee and then went next door to have lunch.
I've gotten food from here before but never noticed that they had any kind of limited time dishes. We decided to order the khao soi noodle soup, as I've seen it all over social media lately, and it did not disappoint. It has a good yellow curry flavor with a nice kick and topped with an interesting addition of sliced red onion and crispy noodles.
We also ordered the gyoza, soy garlic chicken wings and the crab and shrimp fried rice. I would recommend anything from our meal but especially the chicken wings.Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 5, 20243 check-ins
Great Thai food in Pasadena - all the good stuff here and a lot of chef specials. Great noodle soups and all your traditional menu items plus beer and desserts. Great coffee shop next door too. Indoor and outdoor small patio to dine.

They weren't nice to a woman that wanted to eat like everyone else. I was eating inside and a woman entered and asked for a menu. She was ignored by the staff, while she asked (kindly) for a menu multiple times. After 10-15 minutes, a worker then walked her outside to get her out of the store and, I assume, gave her a menu. The business called a Playhouse District person to get the woman away from the property. She was trying to order a meal, offered to sit and eat outside where there weren't any customers, and had money to pay ahead of time for her order (which the staff knew/saw).
I commend the woman for being kind the entire time and not becoming impatient or angry at how she was treated differently from how other customers would be treated. Other customers wouldn't be ignored, shooed away, and be denied service and food that they would pay for ahead of time (this restaurant is typical in that you order, eat, then pay for your meal at the end). The woman didn't become unruly, raise their voice, or anything else that was disruptive to the business and customers. Just wanted a meal like everyone else. I went back inside to order (to-go) the meal the woman was trying to order and was told that I wasn't allowed to purchase it.
Very disappointing and I hope the business and all of us can learn from this and we treat each other much better than how the nice woman was treated.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I believe your wife or girlfriend also left a review yesterday regarding the homeless women incident. Again I applaud your kindness, but my question to you is, when customer buys food for a homeless person it allows them to come in and dine just like other customers. Would you be willingly sit down and eat next to her? Would her body odor increase or disturb your appetite? How about other customers that also sat inside the dinning room? While we understand your sympathy, we also sympathize the rest of our customers that are sitting inside paying for their food and experience as well. Everyone has different opinions and I respect that. Sometimes decisions have to be made for the bigger picture. We can be cruel for not servicing homeless, but we also get mad by customers when we allow them to even sit in the patio. We are not big chain restaurants just family business that work hard to feed our family and staffs. Yes you and your partner said you will continue to attack our business on social media and yelp because of this incident. Absolutely nothing I can do. Again I have over 50+ people to feed, my staffs family, my family and much more. It is definitely disappointing to see the world we live in where people would rather bash small businesses to have them lose business and shut down leave over 25+ people with no income. Everyone is entitled to their opinion as we are also entitled to refuse service to anyone, and this is one of the time we had to make the decision to refuse service to a homeless person even if she has money to pay and dine inside.

2 years later and this place is still one of my favorites. My partner and I love coming here, it's never super crowded. It's quiet enough to talk and the food is always exactly what you want. Like I stated in my original review, they make it SPICY when you ask for it. All the staff is always nice, this is just a very delicious, cozy place. The lovely lady that was behind the counter came to our table tonight, on valentines and offered us a complimentary dessert. She said it was something from her childhood, Pandan pudding. It was warm, sweet, bready. Absolutely gorgeous. Best time and comfortable food. The Pad Kee Mao is a personal favorite, extra spicy.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0May 24, 2021Previous reviewWent to this restaurant with my fiancé and his mother and we all love ordering our food spicy. I ordered the pad Thai and my fiancé ordered the basil beef and chicken plate. We shared amongst each other and the food was so good we didn't notice how ACTUALLY spicy it was. My mouth was on fire after and I loved it. Super yummy food, a little chilly in the outdoor area but there's a tea place right next door.

:: Food ::
I've tried their Pad Thai and Pad See Ew before, both are pretty standard. I recently ordered their Duck Noodle Soup and it was pretty good, the broth was a tad bit on the sweeter side. I would've liked if they gave more of the duck breast, but I guess it did help that the duck comes deboned.
:: Service ::
Customer service is good and the food comes out pretty quick.
:: Parking ::
Their parking lot is super small; they share the parking lot with Dash Coffee Bar. I had to park on the side street across from the restaurant.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 3162109Jan 21, 2024
We stopped in for lunch while in the area. We were greeted by a very friendly and attentive employee. Everything we ordered was incredible in addition to large portions. We took most of the fried rice home because it was too good to throw out.

Hands down, my favorite Thai food spot in Pasadena. The restaurant is located on a one way street with limited parking in the lot, but there's usually enough between the lot and the street. Pork Pad See Ew is a go to item in addition to an order of the wings (zapp spicy). Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.
