IDK what's up with the reviews here?! I've been to Armex I think 3 times, really wanting to like it. There isn't much besides Mexican food in the area, and I wanted to support the idea they have going here - but it's just not good food. I've tried a few things under the old and new management and always feel like I would have been happier somewhere else. Neither the Mexican or Armenian food is even above average, really it's just below.

If you want to see how this idea can be done right go to Gerlach's. It's worth the drive. http://www.yelp.com/biz/gerlachs-grill-pasadena

When I first read about this place serving a fusion of Armenian and Mexican food, I was very happy it wasn't a truck because it was easy to find it. And it was quite easy to find since it's across the street from Lincoln High School, my old high school.

Funny enough, I brought my Mexican American and Armenian American friends. We ordered enough food to feed an army on either side but it was just for the four of us (oh, I was the token Asian and we had an African American friend with us--- quite the rainbow).

We found it's Armenian owned. The guy said he was in the trash truck business but decided to open up a restaurant.

I really liked the more Armenian/ Middle-Eastern flavors except for the hummus (that had a strange spice I couldn't identify). Using lula kabob in the torta or pork kabob in the quesadilla was pretty brilliant.

There was something very addicting about the rice. We later decided it must be all the butter in it.

I wish this place was open when I was in high school!

In short: Tasty Mexican food, for cheap!

I had very high hopes for Armex, an Armenian-Mexican restaurant that has kabobs, tacos, schwarma, and burritos on the menu. Although the Mexican is excellent, they missed the opportunity to create a great blend of flavors that you would hope to find in L.A.

The place is a little hole in the wall in Broadway in Lincoln Heights (across from Lincoln High). It feels like an alleyway that was converted into an impromptu restaurant. I ordered the al pastor burrito, hoping that the Lebanese-influenced Mexican dish would have an interesting Armenian twist.

Alas, what I received was an excellent burrito, filled with succulent marinated pork (al pastor), spiced pinto beans, mexican rice, with cilantro and onion - with tasty salsa on the side. It was good enough you might want to skip right past the Kings Taco down the street the next time you need your burrito fix. And It was more than I could eat for dinner and just $4.25.

The service was fast, the food cheap, and the taste excellent. But I was hoping for something a bit more *blended* from a place that bills itself as Armenian-Mexican.

this place is legit! its a small little family owned business with 4 or 5 tables and plenty of seats on the inside and a few tables and chairs for some sidewalk seating. Everything is made from scratch and made to order so the food is very fresh.

Now onto the food.... it was delicious! me and my friend got chicken nachos to share, and I ordered a beef taco and a ground beef wrap. The taco was pretty tasty with cilantro and chopped onions. The tortilla was also nice and warm. The nachos were really good with melted cheese, ground chicken, and spicy pickled carrots and jalapenos. Their salsa was also super good and surprisingly spicy! I highly recommend the ground beef Armex Wrap. Hands down the best wrap I've ever had.

I definitely wasn't without my doubts when I walked into the place, but after talking to the son of the family who acquired the business, I was put at ease. It seems like a couple of the issues in earlier reviews were solved when the new (Egyptian) family took over a month ago. They do have falafel, and the chicken plate is absolutely excellent. Comes with a huge side of hummus, roasted tomato and green pepper, bed of rice, and an awesome cucumber salad. It was enough for one very hungry individual and there was enough left over to share.

This is the epitome of Los Angeles - a restaurant started by an Armenian family, meant to serve Armenian/Mexican, bought and revamped by an Egyptian family. The decor and the menu might deceive you, but you'd be hard pressed to find better chicken in Los Angeles.

glad to have a great kebab place in the area. like others have pointed out since they are also serving mexican food it would great to try some armenian/mexican fusion items (schwarma burito? lamb guacamole fries?)

with all this being said i still i really enjoyed the lule kebab plate and the hummus was amazing. i never really noticed great hummus before, but i would go back again just for that.

overall the place is pretty small and parking is limited b/c it's across the street from lincoln hs, but i look forward to trying more of the lebanese/armenian side of the menu

      Updated review

I received a Yelp! message a few weeks ago from the new owners of Armex, letting me know that they had changed the menu and added vegetarian options. We stopped by to try out the new offerings (on a Sunday), but sadly, they were closed. So I still have no idea how the food is...but I appreciated the message, and wanted to update my previous statement. Real review to follow.

I give this place two stars only for friendly service, all the food there is terrible. I have tried a variety of dishes from the chicken kabob, cheeseburger, carnitas burrito, tacos and so on. I have been disappointed every time. The only reason I go back is because they are the last spot open on my walk home and I have a long walk left, so a burrito should be the perfect option, right?
Not from this place. The service is slow and more than once I have received burnt meat in my order. The entire cheeseburger was burnt and the homemade fries are a good idea, but poorly executed. The burritos are mostly rice and beans, not much meat. I have tried two different kabobs from them and that's enough. Too bad, I like Armenian food.

And don't try paying with a card if the order is just shy of $5, that is simply not allowed. That means you can't just pick up a burrito or bag of tacos on the way home. The only option is that have to purchase a soda and a burrito to go over the $5 card minimum. Not cool when I have my hands full and just want to grab a burrito for when I reach the top of the mountain I climb to get home.
