      This is the only African market in DC, and the fact that it is metro accessible is fantastic! They have most of the unique items necessary to cook local Nigerian Igbo soups (stockfish and ogiri Igbo), which is always welcome. I frequent it more for their spicy, ripe plantain chips, which I cannot find anywhere else. I have purchased the peanuts multiple times, and I am always disappointed because they are never fresh. Regardless, I recommend this place for most, if not all, of your African food needs.

      I usually go to the international market in PG but this was so close to me and all I needed was a few items for a peanut butter stew. It was surprisingly not busy for a Saturday. There are limited selection on fresh produce but many meat options at a good price and quality. I was in and out in 2 minutes. The cashier was super friendly and even gave me a plastic gag to line my reusable cloth bag because the meat I bought was a little moist.

      It's not the best market but it's convenient and it's one of the only black owned shops in Union Market. If you need simple African ingredients then this is for you. Please keep them open!

      Lots of wonderful resources concentrated in one store. I would definitely return when I'm in the neighborhood.

      I visited this Afrik International Market "the DC location at 411 Morse Street NE (where the old Farmer Market has been revamped to Union Market)," this past Saturday January 28, 2023, and was singled-out and subjected to discrimination by the African female cashier who insisted that I show her fifteen cent coin (.15 cent) before she can continue to ring-up and bag the $200 worth of food items that I was purchasing, in 3 plastic bags;

      I'm not sure where to begin with the unethical, discriminatory, and disrespectful actions by such African female cashier: "the fact that she didn't think I had mere .15 cent to pay for 3 plastic bags therefore willing to abort $212.29 sales in food purchase, or that she didn't extend the courtesy to allow me the opportunity to know whether I wanted my food items bagged in a plastic bag...she basically was just piling them on the small cashier desk and incompetently assumed that I will carry the whole grocery food items in my hands.

      Luckily, "and in attempt to submit a complaint about Saturdays incident," I was able to get in-touch with another store employee at their Landover MD location who apologized on the behalf of the female cashier perp at the DC location, and assured me that such incident will not happen again, although I was considering shopping elsewhere for my African grocery food item until I found out that Afrik International Food Store in the DC/MD/VA area is by the same owner. I wasn't able to get in touch with the store owner name Eka, but the assurance from the employee at the MD location is ok with me for now.

      As someone who lives in DC without a car, this store is clutch! It has every African ingredient you need! My mom came with me to the store and was amazed that we found everything we needed and that they had some of the really good brands she loves that she usually only gets when she travels back home. The downside is store hours mimic regular business hours, so if you want to come here you need to get here before 5pm when they close. The fresh meat section closes at 4:30 but they also have frozen options of everything if you arrive there after 4:30.

      I seem to be the first African person posting a review so let me just say, I love this store. This is the first African market that I've come according in DC and they sell nothing but good quality foods, and have good quality service. I highly recommend!

      First of all I don't understand why someone in the business of attending to people would be rude and dismissive in this era when folks are literally shooting others as if its nothing and taking there own lives. It's NOT very wise. Today, I went to this market for the first time. Prior to getting there I was informed by a female that they close at 5pm. I got there at 4:49, the door was locked. Apparently, she was closing the books. To my surprise she looked up and saw me turned her face as if she was smelling herself and used her had in a dismissive manner like she was wadding a fly. Gesturing I should go away. A gentleman walked by and asked, did I just see her dismissing you with her hand. Does she know that they are shooting folks hands off these days with no care. The most. i would have done is attack her worthless self with words while telling her the truth about her ugly character. I know she is young but she needs to be careful with the hand gestures.... It appears most folks are not thinking and just moving on impulse. Good luck with that...

      I went to the store on Dec. 10th, bought some African food, spend $102.00 at the store, upon arriving home I noticed that all my items was not packed in the bags,-( have 6 bags total) called the store back, spoke to the manager I was told to come back with my receipt-(the chicken that I paid for was not packed in the bag), I was told that the guy in the meat dept. will be off the next that I want to return to the store, told the manager that I will come on next Monday Dec17. Went to the store on the Dec. 17th at 12:30pm with my receipt, the manager told me to show it to the guy in charge in the meat cutting dept. which I did, the guy denied that on the day in question I did not leave any chicken behind and refused to do anything about it, and also called me a liar, the manager also refused to resolve this matter. This is has been ongoing practice with this store, people need to check their bags for what they paid for before leaving the store, I will definitely will not be going back to the store. They are taking advantage of their customers. All I want is what I paid for. I have spoken to some my other friends and I was told that this is the common practice at the store. I want the public to be aware of the practice that his going on at this store.
