An Avocado Restaurant Is Opening in Covent Garden

Just 24 hours after news broke of an audacious pumpkin-smashing attempt to disrupt the avocado’s hegemony over voguish toast toppings, it has been reported by the London Evening Standard and Metro that an actual avocado restaurant — called Avobar — will open in Covent Garden before the end of this year.

Rather presumptively, The Evening Standard claim to be as “stoked” as their reader. Meanwhile, and speaking from the point-of-view of a perhaps stereotypical millennial, Metro imply this is a good news story, writing: “When we’re not drinking lattes out of avocados or chowing down on chunks of vegan avocado chocolate in our avo houses, we’re spending all our money at avocado restaurants.” K.

Avobar’s website teases an all-day operation, saying: “Expect eclectic and wholesome avocado based dishes to eat in or takeaway from our all day menu, breakfast to dinner.” Elsewhere, across platforms, they’re beginning to give a taste of things to come, with intricate Instagrammable arrangements and some serene still lifes.

No specific details have been released on when the mono-product restaurant will launch but it will open every day — 8am to 10pm — on Covent Garden’s Henrietta Street — home to other actual restaurants like Henrietta, Frenchie and Flat Iron.

“The boutique restaurant will serve nutritious bowls and salads, as well as eclectic dishes such as avocado carpaccio, avo hot cakes, green shakshuka and an eclectic breakfast menu,” say the landlord, Covent Garden. It will be “designed around a relaxed Californian vibe, avocado lovers can expect living plant walls, natural materials and high quality fresh ingredients,” they add.

Earlier this year, street food operator Belli Freschi opened what was apparently London’s first avocado bar street food event Last Days of Shoreditch, while the city’s first dedicated guacamole bar also recently opened in Covent Garden.
