“Lamento Borincano” means “Puerto Rican Lament”
This song tells the story of a subsistence farmer (jiberito) taking his fruits and veg to town on a donkey cart, but unable to sell it, and so having to return empty handed.
It was written in the 1920’s, when there was an economic depression in Puerto Rico, making life really difficult for many people there.
Many artists have covered this song over the years. I based my version on that of Marc Anthony.
