The Women of Juarez / Mujeres de Juarez

1:27 PM PDT on October 5, 2016

Coming to Teatro Frida Kahlo this month and next, as part of their Día de los Muertos Performances, is a grim reminder and public protest of Mexico’s disappeared.

Teatro Frida Kahlo will mark “Día de los Muertos” with special performances during the months of October and November of the acclaimed play, The Women of Juarez / Mujeres de Juarez in both English and Spanish.

The Women of Juarez / Mujeres de Juarez follows the story of Rosario, a mother whose daughter, Maritza mysteriously disappears one day on her way to work in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Maritza represents one of the hundreds of young women who have vanished in the border city since 1993, and one of tens of thousands of people who have gone missing in Mexico’s drug wars.

In light of the mounting pressure on Mexican President this play is both the deeply personal story of a mother’s anguished search for her girl and a powerful protest of the Mexican government’s continued silence as the number of disappeared continues to grow daily in the country.

Written and directed by Ruben Amavizca-Murua, this interpretation of The Women of Juarez / Mujeres de Juarez brings the play home to Amavizca’s Teatro Frida Kahlo. Since 2003, this powerful play has been presented in Spain, Puerto Rico and throughout the continental United States.

Juárez-Style Burritos Have Arrived in Southern California, And They are Already Selling Out In Less than An Hour

The month-old strip mall taquería in Anaheim make all their flour tortillas from scratch using both lard and butter, resulting in an extremely tender vehicle for their juicy guisados like carne en su jugo, carne deshebrada, chile colorado, chile relleno, and chicharrón. Every tortilla is cooked to order, too.
