X50-X60 – The Cresta is Born

Generation 3!! 1981 to 1985
This is where Toyota went CRAZY with different models, 4 in fact. The change from series 1 to 2 was a major facelift, so hope i can explain each model with ease.
They had the MarkII Sedan (piller windows), MarkII Hardtop, Chaser and the newly added Cresta.
The introduction of a engine displacement tax in japan resulted in these cars powered by a variety of 1G engines, Single Cam, Twin Cam and Twin Turbo! Australia got a 4M yet again i think.

This is the GX51 Cresta. The only X car to get the X50 chassis code. The front looks almost like Ford LTD blues brothers car.

This here is a GX61 Mark II Sedan, Series 1. The americans got these as their cressidas with HUGE safety bumpers.

GX61 MarkII Hardtop, pillarless. Also known as a eagle grille. These look hot!
Series 1 and Series 2 looks similar. I think.

This is a Chaser, the Australian Cressida got this front, except with the MarkII Sedan body.

This is the GX61 Cresta, revised face. Doesn’t look as good as series 1 IMO

The Rear of the Cresta looked like this, slopped.

While the MarkII Hardtop and Chaser had a flat arse. Both having different style tailights

The Chaser got a facelift aswell for Series 2

GX61 MarkII Sedan Series2 Facelift

The MarkII Sedan Rear. US and JDM almost look the same, Australia and the rest of the world got povo version with no chrome and license plate garnish.

Opps, forgot to add a JZ GX61, Heres one, cant find the guys thread atm. But his in New Zealand. 2JZ 300 odd kws. Crazy.

Next X71 Series – Bye Bye Fender Mirrors.
