Largest Trade Association in Osceola County names REALTOR® of the Year

Kissimmee, FL - Recently, the Osceola County Association of REALTORS® recognized longtime member and REALTORS® Political Action Committee Chair Gladys Thayer as REALTOR® of the Year, one of the organization’s top honors at the Association’s annual Awards and Installation Ceremony held December 10, 2022, at the Embassy Suites. The REALTOR® of the Year award is presented to an active member of the Association who goes above and beyond to serve the real estate profession and the community. Thayer was nominated and chosen by fellow members of the Association for the award.

Governor DeSantis delivers inaugural address, sets priorities for second term

Tallahassee, FL - On January 3, Governor Ron DeSantis delivered his second inaugural address from the steps of the Florida Historic Capitol in Tallahassee. In his address to Floridians, Governor DeSantis highlighted the progress that Florida has made to improve the lives of its residents as a result of his administration priorities, including guaranteeing access to high-quality education, creating a robust economy that continues to grow faster than the nation’s, providing access to resources for those recovering from hurricanes, and investing record funding into the Everglades and Florida’s critical water resources. In concluding his speech, Governor DeSantis reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring Florida state remains the Free State of Florida and set priorities for his second term in office.

The Governor started by saying: "Freedom lives here, in our great Sunshine State of Florida!

It lives in the courage of those who patrol the streets and keep our communities safe, it lives in the industry of those who work long hours to earn a living and raise their families, it lives in the dedication of those who teach our children, it lives in the determination of those who grow our food, it lives in the wisdom of our senior citizens, it lives in the dreams of the historic number of families who have moved

Valencia College gradúa a estudiantes

Orlando, FL - El martes 13 de diciembre, Valencia College celebró su ceremonia de graduación de otoño en el Additions Arena. Este fue un día de nuevos comienzos para los más de 1,500 estudiantes. Durante este primer comienzo que se llevará a cabo después del trimestre de otoño en la historia de Valencia College.

Valencia College graduates students on Fall Commencement

Orlando, FL - Tuesday, December 13 Valencia College held its Fall Commencement Ceremony commencement at the Additions Arena. This was a day of new beginnings for the more than 1,500 students. During this first Commencement to ever be held following the fall term in Valencia College history.

Additionally, there was another first! As President Kathleen Plinske turned around on stage to take a selfie with all graduates and their guests, a very special guest appeared from backstage to join the photo — the Valencia College Puma — who made its first in-person visit ever.

Following recognizing veterans; honors students; graduates with a perfect 4.0 GPA; and baccalaureate grads, Valencia College's Fall 2022 Distinguished Graduate Christopher Davis took the podium.

As a kid, Christopher stayed out of trouble in a neighborhood where many friends and family members ended up getting arrested or doing drugs. He’d stuck with his coursework, finished high school and headed to college. Like many

Valencians, however, the 36-year-old faced obstacles in his path. He dropped out of college several times, after struggling in math.

After his childhood best friend died, Christopher vowed to finish what he'd started. And now he's graduating as the Distinguished Graduate and plans to start his own business — another new beginning.

"If you’re in this graduating class, that means you’re a part of a new, and necessary era. My fellow graduates, that era is providing a good service in the workplace and in the community," Christopher said to the public. "Now, I’m sure we’ve all had our highs and lows. You know what I realized? A lot of my lows took place when I didn’t provide a good service. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my fair share of lows. In 2020, I lost my childhood best friend to an overdose. I’ve laid employees off, and I’ve even been laid off. But class of 2022, one thing I’ve always done is provide a high level of quality service in the workplace and in my community."

Orlando, FL - Orlando Health Cancer Institute – St. Cloud launched its clinic this month in a phased opening of the first comprehensive cancer center in the city.

The 7,200-square-foot facility, housed within Orlando Health Medical Pavilion –St. Cloud, features six exam rooms, one consultation room and an in-house lab.

“At the Orlando Health Cancer Institute in St. Cloud, you get the benefit of the entire hospital system,” said Simi George, MD, lead oncologist at the facility. “You get access to state-ofthe-art surgery, access to clinical trials – all the things you would get at a big cancer center, with the bulk of the treatment being delivered close to home.”

Patients with non-cancerous blood issues are also able to be treated at the

St. Cloud facility, George said, and can receive infusions when the next phase of the center opens in early 2023.

The facility will have 12 infusion bays for chemotherapy, immunotherapy or IV therapy plus a pharmacy on site.

“Orlando Health understands how important it is to have these services convenient to our patients so that they don’t struggle with transportation to and from their appointments,” said Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital President Brian Wetzel.

Orlando Health Cancer Institute – St. Cloud is the organization’s fifth regional facility, including Osceola and others in Lake Mary, Ocoee, and Orlando’s Dr. Phillips-area.

Orlando Health announces plans to build a freestanding emergency room in East Orange County

Orlando, FL -

with renderings of a new freestanding emergency room (ER) the organization plans to build. The request provides specifications for the new ER, which features an 18,000 square foot facility with a capacity for up to 24 exam rooms, including two resuscitation rooms, a computerized tomography room, a radiology room, and a lab. It will be located at 11898 Lake Underhill Road, on a 5.57-acre site that was previously the location of a motorcycle dealership.

“The East Orange County community has grown tremendously over the last couple of decades,” said Matt Taylor, senior vice president of asset strategy for Orlando Health. “Consumer demand for greater access and more choices in healthcare services has and continues to grow in that area. Orlando Health is pleased to expand its presence to serve the East Orange community to address this growing need,” adds Mr. Taylor.

The new ER will be connected to Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center, which is home to the area’s only Level One Trauma Center. The new free-standing ER will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and be staffed by board-certified emergency room physicians, registered nurses and a full support staff. An opening date for the new facility has not yet been announced.

Annual celebration of the Three Kings Day

Kissimmee, FL - The Osceola County Chamber of Commerce will hold the 18th annual Three Kings Day Celebration in Old Town Kissimmee; or better known as Old Town (5770 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy, Kissimmee, Fl 34746) on January 8th, from 10:00 to 2:00.

The Feast of the Three Kings is an intricate part of Latin Folklore. Traditionally, this day is very important, especially for children, for it is on this eve that they

will receive their gifts. The celebration will include a visit from the Three Kings; FREE Hotdogs; FREE popcorn; and a toy for children under 11. Bikes and tablets will be given away by raffle throughout the event.

St. Cloud, FL - La Ciudad de St. Cloud ha contratado a Andrew Sullivan como Gerente Principal de Información Pública, a partir del 12 de diciembre.

City of St. Cloud adds Public Safety PIO to Communications team

St. Cloud, FL - The City of St. Cloud has hired Andrew Sullivan as Senior Public Information Manager, effective December 12.

The new position within the City’s Communications department will help keep residents and business owners better informed on matters of safety. A Public Information Officer (PIO) is responsible for the regular dissemination of information to the public and to the media.

Sullivan, who is a FEMA-accredited Master Public Information Officer and FAA-licensed drone pilot, will support the St. Cloud Police Department, St. Cloud

Fire Rescue, and the City’s Emergency Management efforts.

A Florida native, Sullivan previously served as the PIO for Osceola County Fire Rescue & EMS and the Osceola County Office of Emergency Management.

John Newstreet named “Chamber Executive of the Year of Florida”

The Salvation Army distributed blankets and food to warming shelters

Orlando, FL - The Salvation Army Orlando Area Command disbursed hundreds of blankets and food to Orange County warming shelters. Additionally, he made a last-minute effort to get donations to his Red Kettle campaign to help cover costs.

“We have provided blankets and food to Orange County warming stations to help keep our neighbors fed and warm

during this cold front,” said Capt. Ken Chapman, Area Commander, The Salvation Army Orlando Area Command . “Our men's shelter facility is open and ready for cold weather entry at 4 p.m. on Friday, December 23 at 624 Lexington Avenue for men who need a warm shelter,” he continued. “In these frigid temperatures, it is extremely dangerous to be out in the elements, even for a short period. Therefore, we urge everyone without shelter to

come inside. We have hot food and drinks to warm them up too.”

The arctic conditions coincide with the end of the famous Red Kettle season on Christmas Eve, making conditions difficult for volunteer bell ringers in retail stores. “The practical and financial support of our community allows us to help those in need every day of the year, not just at Christmas,” said Capt. Ken Cha -

pman. “Your support means The Salvation Army is there to keep the lights on for a family struggling to pay the bills, we can provide a hot meal and cup of coffee for a first responder working in times of disaster and we can provide a warm , a safe place for someone who is homeless when temperatures drop below freezing.”

Orlando Magic Announce Partnership with Central Florida YMCA

Orlando, FL - In their continued commitment to local youth, the Orlando Magic announce a multi-year partnership with the YMCA of Central Florida. Will Orlando City win its first international trophy?

2022 will be remembered in Orlando as the year of the city's club's first official title, the US Open Cup in September. That achievement allowed a new milestone for the club: playing in the Concacaf Champions League this year. For the first time, the purple lions will have an international match, and the first one won’t be easy. They’ll have to play the first round against Tigres, one of the two great favorites and champion of this tournament in 2020. On March 7, at the Volcán, and on the 15th, at the Exploria, Orlando City will begin its international history, now looking for another kind of trophy, if they can get past that (and 3 more rounds) to be Concacaf champions.

Where will Brady and Rodgers play?

Two NFL legends will be free agents in a few weeks. After retiring, TB12 regretted it and even came close to going to Miami. They're second to bottom in the East at the moment, one of the bottom 3 in the league in points per game, and the playoffs this year aren't really the goal. This year the important thing is to take steps towards the future, recover from injuries (Jonathan Isaac is still out), and define what needs to be improved.

Who will be the new coach of the Mexican National Team?
