UFO ACTIVITY REPORT SHELLEY GOODMAN WORLDWIDE SIGHTINGS Cases of interest are extracted from the closed case files as an edited list of best cases. Some witness testimony may be edited for clarity.

CASE 106540

entrance ramp from Maple Grove Parkway. I noticed six to eight low-flying helicopters in semicircular formation heading from the east towards me. Three seconds later I noticed a pulsating light from below the tree line approximately 300-500 ft to the east. The object then rose up almost above the tree line and seemed to tumble in place for one or two seconds before rising just above the tree line. Once the object was above the tree line, the lights were more like a blinding white staggering strobe lights with multiple locations. The object slowly headed north for two seconds, then seemed to jump eastwards towards Brooklyn Park almost out of sight, then jumped back and steadily moved from its original eastward position in Maple Grove heading eastward again along Hwy 610 towards Brooklyn Park/Coon Rapids until out of sight. The object’s profile came into view for less than three seconds after last heading and seemed to have a thin, dumbbell shape with a transparent-gold color???? While the sighting was unfolding, the helicopters seemed disoriented and broke visible formation. It has been about two hours since sighting, and I still can see burn-in when I close my eyes. During and 10 seconds immediately after sighting I felt nauseous and had sunspot/ flash-like vision in both eyes. I feel relatively ok now.” Minnesota MUFON Field Investigator William Odden closed this case as Unknown Other.

Minnesota witness sees several helicopters following an object just above the trees A Minnesota witness in Maple Grove reported seeing 6–8 low-flying helicopters that were following a pulsating light, according to testimony in Case 106540. The witness was in his car driving at 6:20 p.m. on March 2, 2020. “I was heading northeast turning onto the 610 eastbound 6 | JUNE 2020

In the report, Odden states, “It looked like a thin dumbbell shape with a transparent gold color filament between the ends; it was about 20 feet long and the “bells” comprising the ends were about a foot or two in diameter. During this time, it was pulsating very bright light and the helicopters started to go in two different directions—three in each group—as if they were disoriented. The pulsing light continued and the witness felt nauseous and he had sunspot/flash-like vision aftereffects in both eyes. This went away after two hours. There was no noise heard during the sighting from any of the objects. The UFO’s two ends would light up for a few seconds as it moved away. It would also go back very fast and then slowly east, then it jerked back until it was gone.” Maple Grove is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 61,567 at the 2010 census but has been growing rapidly since then, as 2018 US census estimates rank Maple Grove as Minnesota’s eighth largest city with 71,807 residents.

Maryland witness sees a “V”-shaped craft flying low and slow over her neighborhood

Washington witness felt he was being hunted by beings in a craft

A Maryland witness in Annapolis reported seeing a “V”shaped craft that had strings of bright lights from tip to tip flying over her neighborhood, according to testimony in Case 105790.

A Washington witness in Ariel reported seeing beings in a craft, according to testimony in Case 105921.

The witness was in her bedroom. She then got up at 3 a.m. and looked out her window on January 23, 2020. “Happened to wake up about 3 a.m. and could not sleep. I looked out the window and saw a V-shaped craft—like a boomerang with pointed wings or a chevron shape. It was moving across the sky past the tall trees near our house. It was about 8–12 inches across from my viewpoint. It made no noise at all. I watched it moving slowly across the sky for a couple of minutes. It seemed to be a dark object except for many lights that went all the way across it. However, it could have been entirely lit up, because it was moving behind the hundreds of bare tree branches that cover the sky from my window. The utter silence of an object so big was the most amazing thing. My best guess is that it was about 500 feet above the ground, and about 50 feet across moving very slowly—too slowly for a plane of that size.”

“We live in a remote wooded area near Mt. Saint Helens in WA state. It was a little after 10 p.m. when I heard a noise like an all-wheel drive car applies when it brakes a little hard. I knew something was wrong. I was in a hammock on the back patio; it was completely dark and I was listening to music. As soon as I heard it, I ran for the house. Before I could make it 20 feet, an oval object stopped at the top of the tree line in direct line across from me as I was running for the door. I was looking at it while I was heading for the door. There were some windows lined up in a horizontal row and there were around three skinny big-headed things looking out at me. I made it to the house, yelling for someone to come look. I stood in the doorway watching it drift along. It went straight forward about 100 feet and without sound vanished. I believe I was hunted and luckily got away.”

Maryland MUFON Assistant State Director Avery Christensen closed this case as Unknown Aerial Vehicle.

Washington MUFON State Section Director Sue Countiss closed this case as Unknown Aerial Vehicle.

In the report, Christensen states that, “The witness viewed the ‘V’-shaped craft with a string of lights or a singular line of light on its underside; because of the trees, the witness was unable to determine any details about the lights.”

In the report, Countiss states, “The witness was listening to music as he lay in his hammock outside at home, in the mountains, late in the evening. The evening was clear and the weather was good. He heard a sound like brakes being applied hard, and looked up to see this craft coming toward him. He ran to get to the porch and looked back to see three entities with big heads looking at him from the craft. He made it to the house and yelled for someone else to

Annapolis is the capital of the U.S. state of Maryland. Its population was measured at 38,394 by the 2010 census.

It stayed there on our covered deck for at least 5 minutes. It appeared to have movement counterclockwise. I didn’t have my phone on my nightstand or I would have taken photos. I felt afraid and that my privacy had been violated to have this orb looking into our bedroom in the middle of the night! I don’t sleep as well as I used to since then! I will keep my phone on me at all times now!” California MUFON Field Investigator Cassandra Coit closed this case as Unknown Other. In the report, Coit states, “Shortly after midnight, the witness was awoken by a bright red, basketball-sized light coming in through her dark blue, light-blocking curtains. She said that the red light was so bright that the shape could be seen spinning counterclockwise with fluid-like movement on the inside.” Carlsbad is a coastal city in the North County region of San Diego County, California, United States. California witness sees a fast-flying object with flapping wings A California witness in Oakland reported seeing an orblike object flying at high speed, according to testimony in Case 105218. Oddly, the object had flapping wings. The witness was standing on his deck at his residence at 10 p.m. on December 17, 2019. “My girlfriend and I saw an orb-like object with pyramid-like wings flying hundreds of miles an hour over the Bay Area, faster than an airplane, and disappear behind a cloud at approximately 10 p.m.”

California MUFON Assistant State Director Devlin Rugne closed this case as Unknown Other. In the report, Rugne states, “He said it came down like a meteor; this object veered from the east towards the north, which doesn’t sound like a meteor at all. I questioned him if this could have been a bird since these wings he saw were moving in a flapping motion, but he was adamant that it was a craft of some sort because the bright orb’s own light source was reflecting off the wings. It started out as a small streak that was coming down from the sky and that got bigger, doing an arc. Towards the end of the sighting, which lasted about five seconds, they could see the shape of it. The object appeared to be a white orb that had long, skinny pyramidal wings that were moving—like a flapping motion.”

The witness was outside her house at 7:15 p.m. on February 16, 2020. “Looked up and saw large Tic Tac in sky. No sound. Close. Large. Continuous row of large bright white lights along side. Moving fairly slowly offshore towards Cozumel island. I was stunned. Went inside to draw what I saw. Told my husband and he laughed. There may have been a few wisps of vapor coming off it in places.” Steve Hudgeons, MUFON International Director of Investigation, closed this case as Unknown Aerial Vehicle. The ERT Files NOTES FROM MUFON’S EXPERIENCER RESEARCH TEAM

Modern Contact: What We Have Learned • Part One By Kathleen Marden MUFON Director of Experiencer Research

D

o you remember the time when UFOs hovered over vehicles in desolate regions, frightening hapless witnesses? Local newspapers carried articles that detailed the craft’s appearance and the impact it had on the driver. The passengers sometimes found themselves on a new section of road with two or more hours of lost time that seemed to have passed in an instant. It was the heyday of ufology because there were sometimes multiple witnesses and compelling evidence could be collected. This is a rarity in modern times. Very seldom do we hear of a contemporary abduction from a moving vehicle, a boat, a hunter, a hiker, or a camper.

feeling lucky that the car had restarted. The perplexing craft had disappeared, and their attention turned to basketball and their high school friends. But when they wheeled into the schoolyard, the parking lot was empty. The school was locked and only the night lights had been left burning. Their mood shifted from enthusiasm to confusion. What had happened? Had the game been cancelled? Neither was wearing a watch, and both had curfews. They soon discovered it was nearly 11 o’clock! Where had the time gone? They were in a state of panic, not because of the strange craft and missing time, but because they had to face the wrath of their waiting parents.

One of my early case investigations involved two teenage friends who were driving to a high school basketball game via a narrow secondary road in New Hampshire. It was a cloudless night in late fall. Small dairy farms dotted the roadside, illuminating the otherwise dark terrain. Thick stands of maple, oak and pine forest gave way to open expanses of field land. It was along this section of road that the friends saw a brightly lighted aerial vehicle racing in their direction. They initially thought it was a helicopter. But almost immediately it was beside their now stalled vehicle, looming silently, fifty feet or so, overhead.

This event played out repeatedly in the mind of teenage Jennie. Her simple, secure life would never again be the same. On a nightly basis, sleep came in fits and starts as trepidation hung like a dark cloud. Formerly a popular, outgoing teen, she withdrew into obsessive thought that pervaded every facet of her life. (1)

As if only a moment had passed, the friends were on their way to the game 10 | JUNE 2020

This was not to be a one-time event for Jennie. Like 80% of abduction experiencers she was less than 20 at the time of her first experience. (2) Although 10% of abductees believe they have been taken only one time, Jennie was revisited periodically throughout her lifetime. She is not certain how many times this occurred, but she recalls more frequent visits during her

reproductive years, perhaps five to nine abductions from her home. MUFON’s three-year study revealed that 75% believed they had experienced multiple abductions. These statistics are the result of a comprehensive study that MUFON’s ERT began in 2015 on persons who believed they had been abducted or otherwise contacted by non-human entities, purportedly of extraterrestrial origin. More than 600 experiencers completed a 118-question survey. Of these, 516 met the criteria for inclusion in phase one of the study, meaning they were not identified as fakers and had completed the entire questionnaire. In 2017, Dr. Don C. Donderi, a retired psychologist from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, CA, initiated phase two of the study. Phase two, the American Personality Inventory, is a standardized measure designed to identify persons who meet the criteria for “UFO Abduction Syndrome.” Those with “UFO Abduction Syndrome” have the characteristics and intimate knowledge of the abduction experience and the emotional overlay that are unique to this group. It is not found in simulators or the general population. The API was developed by Ted Davis, a clinical social worker, and Budd Hopkins (1931-2011), a prominent

UFO abduction researcher and distinguished abstract expressionist artist, as an indicator of UFO Abduction Syndrome. Davis and Hopkins used the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, a well-known psychological measure, as a model for the API. Dr. Donderi collaborated with them by enlisting the assistance of students at McGill University as the control groups for the evaluation and standardization of the statistical portion of the test. In MUFON’s study, Dr. Donderi identified the 20 highest scorers, those who met the criteria as having “UFO Abduction Syndrome,” and the 20 lowest scorers—the “contactee group”—who exhibited almost none of the criteria for having a true abduction experience but were not simulators or controls. The two groups were compared, and this has led to a better understanding of modern contact. Most of today’s abductees are the children and grandchildren of historically earlier UFO abduction experiencers. As I investigated Jennie’s case, I discovered that her mother had very similar events in her life, including inexplicable time lapses and UFO sightings. Jennie’s 42-year-old son continues to have puzzling experiences as well. Generational abductions have been reported by 60% of abductees, but only 30% of the contactee group state that family members have been contacted. Both groups report the observation of UFOs at less than 500 feet in the distance. It is 70% for abductees and 85% for contactees. As a teenager, Jennie’s son, Aiden, happened upon a landed UFO while walking in a rural area at night, and experienced missing time. Not long ago, I spoke with Aiden concerning his recent experiences. Sometimes he consciously recalls nocturnal glimpses of entities in his bedroom and a kind of paralysis that his mother experienced when she was his age. It has been suggested by skeptics that abductees are experiencing sleep paralysis and sleep hallucinations, not real expe-

riences. It certainly makes sense that this could be true of some experiencers. We discovered that 90% of the abductees and 65% of the contactees in our study had awakened paralyzed and unable to move any parts of their bodies except their eyes. We went a step further to determine whether or not sleep paralysis is a satisfactory explanation for the abduction syndrome by asking the participants in our survey if they had been awake and able to move their bodies but observed non-human presences and then became paralyzed. We discovered that 60% of the abductee group were awake and able to move their bodies but then observed non-human presences and became paralyzed. This was true for only 25% of the contactee group. The highly significant percentage of wakeful abductees indicates that bedroom abductions cannot be dismissed as sleep paralysis among those who meet the criteria for real abduction. How can MUFON field investigators collect evidence in bedroom abduction cases? This is indeed a challenge. The ERT advises experiencers to document all the details of their experiences immediately after they are returned to their natural environment. It is also important to check one’s body for new, perplexing marks that have no common explanation. But don’t become obsessive about this. All of us awaken with scratches and bruises that we do

not remember seeing the day before. The ERT maintains a catalog of unusual patterned marks for comparison. We don’t share this information with the general public. But you would be surprised at how many experiencers, separated by hundreds of miles, have photographed identical patterned marks on their bodies. To be continued in Part Two. Mars Sample-Return NASA and European Space Agency mission planned to return soil samples from Mars in the early 2030s. The current plan incorporates the collection and storage of soil samples by NASA’s Perseverance rover vehicle. The samples then would be returned to Earth much later on a Mars Sample-Return mission.

The Andromeda Strain Could a worldwide pandemic result from the Mars Sample-Return mission?

Background

One of this writer’s favorite, classic sci-fi films is Robert Wise’s The Andromeda Strain (1971), based upon Michael Crichton’s fictional book of the same title. The plot goes something like this: an American satellite is launched in order to capture upper-atmosphere microorganisms for biological warfare research. However, in the process, a meteor carrying extraterrestrial microbes crashes into the satellite, taking it out of orbit. One of the damaged satellite components containing the microbes then parachutes to a remote New Mexico town. As a result of aerial reconnaissance, it appears that all of the townspeople have died— well, all but two: a six-month-old infant and a 69-year-old, alcoholic man living on aspirin and Sterno.

microbe microscopic organism. Any bacterium that causes disease. pathogen any agent, especially a microorganism able to cause a disease. RNA ribonucleic acid is a polymeric molecule essential in various biological roles in coding, decoding, regulation and expression of genes. RNA and DNA are nucleic acids, and, along with lipids, proteins and carbohydrates, constitute the four major macromolecules essential for all known forms of life on Earth. virus nucleic acid (ultra-microscopic), either DNA or RNA, encased by protein. Viruses infect animals, plants and bacteria and can reproduce only within living cells. 12 | JUNE 2020

Drs. Stone and Hall discover the satellite debris containing alien microbes1

The microbes contain the chemical elements (carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen—the constituent elements in amino acids) required for terrestrial life, but lack the DNA, RNA, and the amino acids present in all forms of terrestrial life. They have the unusual ability to transform matter directly into energy with no apparent byproducts. The satellite components and the microbes are taken to a top-secret, underground laboratory in Nevada called the Wildfire containment facility. The microbes, code-named “Andromeda,” mutate with each growth cycle, changing their biological properties. Unexpectedly, they also have the uncanny ability to degrade synthetic rubber and plastic seals in laboratory doors

thereby permitting them to “escape captivity” from the containment facility (!). One thing that we clearly understood was that the story involved a highly-virulent microbe quite unlike any terrestrial bacterial or viral agent. (See sidebar.) Another thing is that there is risk in most human endeavors, particularly involving the unknown and that unexpected events can result, even some involving all of humanity. The movie ends with Dr. Stone testifying before Congress that, while they were able to defeat the alien pathogen, they may be unable to do so in the future. It’s a foreboding message sent out in 1971 and recalled by some of us amid the ongoing pandemic in 2020. According to Wikipedia, a 2003 publication by the Infectious Diseases Society of America noted that The Andromeda Strain is the «most significant, scientifically accurate, and prototypic of all films of this [killer virus] genre . . . it accurately details the appearance of a deadly agent, its impact, and the efforts at containing it, and, finally, the work-up on its identification and clarification on why certain persons are immune to it.”2

Mars Sample-Return Mission

budget, and space constraints of normal, unmanned spacecraft sensors. The illustration below is one scenario planned by NASA/JPL and ESA. This mission is currently planned for the early 2030s. Of course, the mission will be moot if Elon Musk’s SpaceX lands a manned spacecraft on Mars in 2024 as planned (!).

Mars Sample Containment

So, what if there’s a certain bacterial agent or virus that is returned to Earth? Is there a risk that what was depicted in this film could actually have an impact like coronavirus on Earth? For those of a certain age, we remember what happened when the crew of Apollo 11 returned to Earth after landing on the Moon: they were quarantined. The purpose of the quarantine was to prevent the spread of any contagions from the Moon, though the existence of such contagions was considered unlikely, but not impossible. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins were held in quarantine in the Mobile Quarantine Facility (MQF) for the first few days after returning to Earth and then for the remainder of 21 days at the Lunar Receiving Laboratory in Houston.

A Mars sample-return (MSR) mission would be a spaceflight mission to return rock and soil samples on Mars to Earth for detailed analysis. The samples, under this proposed plan, would be collected by the Perseverance rover and then retrieved and returned years later by an MSR mission. Sample-return would be a very powerful type of exploration, because the analysis is freed from the time,

President Nixon visiting the Apollo 11 crew in the MQF4

Note: The following contains extensive extracts from an article written by columnist Leonard David under the byline Space Insider and published on Space.com.5 Cassie Conley, a former NASA Planetary Protection Officer, emphasized that there is far more risk in the Mars Sample-Return mission than an Apollo mission returning rock samples from the Moon. She told Space.com: Mars Sample-Return mission3

“Since the beginning of space exploration, planetary protection has mandated that samples from Mars THE MUFON JOURNAL | 13

should be considered ‘Restricted Earth Return.’ This requires the most stringent containment to protect both the samples and the Earth.” According to Wikipedia, in 2019, NASA’s Planetary Protection Independent Review Board recommended lowering the “planetary protection” category for much of Mars’ surface to Category II, which would eliminate the requirement for oversight or containment of samples returned from parts of Mars. “We really don’t understand Earth biology very well and certainly don’t know that much about Mars. So, it’s premature to conclude there are no Martian biohazards. . . the current pandemic demonstrates, tragically well, how overconfidence and short-term perspectives can cause catastrophic harm to people all over the Earth.”6

as well. And since samples can only be brought back once such a facility is in operation, it will also delay the schedule until we can bring samples back. And if so, we should bring rather ‘fresh’ samples back, not samples that have been in a box on Mars for years—as is the plan right now.”8

ALH84001

One thing that must be kept in mind, Schulze-Makuch said, is that Earth has already received Mars samples—lots of them, in fact, over the eons. Many Mars meteorites have landed on Earth, potentially bringing Martian microbes—if they exist—to our planet.9

J. Andy Spry is a senior scientist at the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute in California and a NASA planetary protection consultant. Spry said that Mars sample containment would occur “in the same way that the SARS epidemic sharpened the responses of many Asian countries to the COVID-19 hazard. That is, by allowing decision-makers to develop appropriate and timely responses to a microbial pathogen threat.” Spry said that such pathogens usually develop by co-existing with life on Earth, with highly specialized outbreak adaptations as part of an ongoing host-pathogen interaction. “We can think of pathogenicity as molecular locks and keys which are virtually impossible to develop without repeated contact,” Spry said.7 “Thus, it is extremely unlikely for a biological entity evolving and adapting in an extraterrestrial environment to be able to take advantage of lifeforms on Earth.”

Why Not A Martian Testing Facility?

Dirk Schulze-Makuch, an astrobiologist at Washington State University, has been a longtime advocate for having an on-the-spot life-detection mission on Mars first, before attempting sample return. “We do have the technology to do so. That way we would also have a better idea what we might bring back,” he told Space.com. (Perseverance, which will launch this summer, will hunt for signs of Martian life on the Red Planet’s surface. But the rover will look for evidence of ancient, not extant, organisms.) Schulze-Makuch said that a retrieval facility would have to have a high biosafety level, just in case. The chance that any life from Mars would be in any way harmful to us or Earth’s biosphere at large is extremely low, he said. He thinks that chance is lower than 1%, but it cannot be totally excluded. According to him: “So, I think the public and planetary protection guidelines would warrant a high biosafety level retrieval facility . . . which, of course, has a very high price tag 14 | JUNE 2020

ALH84001 meteorite “fossil” or what? [colorized]10

“Studies have shown that the interior, for example, of Mars rock ALH84001 was never heated above 40 degrees Celsius [104 degrees Fahrenheit], and if there would have been (dormant) microbes in it, they would likely have survived the journey from Mars to Earth,” Schulze-Makuch said. Since 1984, there’s been a heated debate among scientists about whether some Martian meteorites—notably ALH84001—contain evidence of Martian microbial life. “Either way, the point is that there is also a natural ‘mechanism’ to bring potentially Martian life to Earth … and if that didn’t have detrimental consequences for life in the past, it is unlikely that it will have those in the future,” Schulze-Makuch said. “But again, we have to admit that the risk is not zero.”11

A Future “Wildfire” Containment Facility?

While major spacefaring nations share a common perspective on containment of Martian material returned to Earth

by a spacecraft, J. Andy Spry also underscored the international Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) policy language that “no uncontained hardware that contacted Mars, directly or indirectly, shall be returned to Earth.”12 However, details of the implementation—including those for a containment facility—have yet to be completed, he said.

7. Ibid.

“This is only because the details of the current Mars sample return mission architecture are still being studied and refined by NASA and the European Space Agency right now,” Spry told Space.com. “In the latest scheduling, we are still some 15 years from samples actually being returned to the Earth-moon system, which is still timely in terms of getting containment facility work done.”13

Commentary

This article is a precautionary note. The coronavirus pandemic reinforces the old Boy Scout’s motto that it’s best to be prepared for unexpected events. As Jan C. Harzan wrote in the April issue of the Journal, “Black Swan events rarely give a warning—they just arrive.” We are now experiencing a worldwide Black Swan event of the first order. Disease is widespread and continuing. We will get through this, at least most of us, but far worse events could happen if NASA, ESA, CNSA (Chinese National Space Administration)—or anyone else—should become complacent.

Should the reader find this to be an outlandishly-crazy idea from a deranged mind, please read my “NewScience” article, “Space Warp Propulsion—Part 2,” also in this month’s issue. Then, realize that in 1988 the ARV (Alien Reproduction Vehicle) existed in three pro totype variants. It’s been 32 years since then. What further progress has been made? A Moon base? A Martian colony? Generally speaking, when science creates a new technology, engineers exploit that technology to the fullest. They don’t put it on a shelf to collect Moon dust.

To the readers: If you have a specific topic that you would like presented, please contact the editor. l

For those who are very conservative (with a small “c”), the best course of action would be to operate a testing facility on Mars prior to returning samples to Earth. For this writer, who happens to be more of a “progressive” on this issue, I have a personal sense that—for Mars—it is not necessary to create a “Wildfire” containment facility on Earth. I cannot speak for MUFON, but I subscribe to the conspiracy theory of an extant, Secret Space Program. That is, I accept the premise that there is already an existing, human presence on Mars.14 So, for me, this is all a moot point. Readers’ comments would be appreciated and will be presented in a future article.

r. Edward Condon’s influence looms large in the history of ideas. He issued his Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects in 1968 and set back UFO study for generations. On April 26, 1969, he presented a paper before the American Philosophical Society entitled “UFO’S I HAVE LOVED AND LOST” (volume 113, APS proceedings). He opened saying, “Our Program Committee suggested that the members might like a brief account of my experiences in conducting a study of Unidentified Flying Objects,” but failed to deliver that story. He did offer a model for debunkers though. It may flourish again with ufology now making new inroads. Dr. Condon conceded some UFOs might be extraterrestrial, saying, “it may be postulated, and some writers go so far as to say they actually are. To discover clear, unambiguous evidence on this point would be a scientific discovery of the first magnitude, one which I would be quite happy to make.” However, he aimed to banish the subject from respectable inquiry. He considered the subject rubbish, dismissing UFOs as sky specters seen by the ignorant and superstitious. He ranked UFO study with astrology, spiritualism, “extrasensory perception, and psychokinesis, and a host of others.” As to be expected, he dismissed all of these subjects and those interested in them. Condon cast his debunk16 | JUNE 2020

ing net wide, leaving no space for the possibility of thoughtful, informed UFO witnesses and researchers. With good reason, Condon also held there were some cultists and charlatans involved, but he didn’t bother explaining why that had any relevance in considering the underlying reality of the phenomenon itself. He also warily noted that “in the last three years 40,000 schoolchildren have written the Air Force asking for UFO data.” Condon conceded a theoretical possibility of UFOs, but issued a warning to anyone foolhardy enough to take him up: “In conclusion, let me say that where corruption of children’s minds is at stake, I do not believe in freedom of the press or freedom of speech. In my view, publishers who publish or teachers who teach any of the pseudo-sciences as established truth should, on

being found guilty, be publicly horsewhipped, and forever banned from further activity in these usually honorable professions. Truth and children’s minds are too precious for us to allow them to be abused by charlatans.” Dr. Condon was a UFO thought cop. He reckoned anyone interested in the subject was at best a miscreant guilty of thinking without a license. He died in 1974 but his Scientific Study inhibited inquiry for fifty years. Debunkers generally didn’t break a sweat while his/their views dominated, but Condon’s influence is waning. UFO studies are enjoying a (thus far) modest renaissance, so debunking will too. Armed with thick skins, intellectual rigor, and a sense of humor, serious students of ufology will move the scale to the tipping point for acceptance and put the fading ghost of Edward Condon’s Scientific Study to rest. l

Space Warp Propulsion— Part 2 Second in a series on breaking the speed of light “barrier”

Background

We know, based on Einstein’s 1915 theory of general relativity, that space-time can be curved or folded like a fabric or a material. Matter or energy can bend space-time. This article is based on previous articles published in the MUFON Journal. If you didn’t read my articles “ZPE: Breakthrough Science” in the August 2018 issue, “Space Warp Propulsion” in the October 2018 issue, “Mystical Magical Mercury—Part 1” in the December 2018 issue and part 2 in the June 2019 issue, you might wish to review them.

The Science

Repeating part of the “Space Warp Propulsion” article in the October 2018 issue, let me summarize the concept of a space warp bubble. In 1994 the Mexican physicist Professor Miguel Alcubierre,1 National University of Mexico, proposed a theory of physics for a method for changing space-time by creating a wave that would cause the fabric of space-time ahead of a spacecraft to contract and the space-time behind it to expand. The spacecraft would then ride this wave inside a region of flat space, known as a warp bubble. The spacecraft would not move within this bubble, but instead be carried along as the region itself moves due the effect created by a spacecraft’s “engine” or “drive.” One might think of the space warp bubble as a surfboarder riding a (very exotic) ocean wave.

The Alien Reproduction Vehicle cutaway3 18 | JUNE 2020

In the illustration on page 17, we see a ring-shaped spacecraft moving forward (toward the right) inside the space warp bubble. Positive values (red) of the bubble [1] represent the expanded part of space-time and the negative values [3] (blue) represent that portion of space-time that is contracted. Analogously, the red region might be considered as a warp “hill” and the blue region a warp “well.” The spacecraft would then ride the “wave” toward its destination. Flat space-time [2] is shown as the flat, gray area. Inside the bubble, the spacecraft and its passengers experience an undisturbed, zero gravity environment and are not affected by a time dilation. As the spacecraft moves along, the contraction balances with the expansion of space-time. Therefore, the rules of space-time and general relativity are not violated as would normally be understood. In physics, this is what is known as the Alcubierre Warp Drive. “Drive” is simply a word that represents a means of propulsion, but one that does not use chemical propellants. On paper, it is a solution of the Einstein equations, specifically how space, time and energy interact. In this particular model of space-time, there are features that are reminiscent of the fictional “warp drive” or “hyperspace” from Star Trek, Star Wars and other popular sci-fi films and TV series. This would allow our spaceship to be transported in excess of the speed of light.

The Alien Reproduction Vehicle

In the June 2019 “Mystical Magical Mercury—Part 2” article, a short history of what has been called the “alien reproduction vehicle” was presented. Now, we are prepared to describe in an exclusive report how the alien reproduction vehicle (ARV) or “flux liner” operates based on the latest revelations by Mark McCandlish. McCandlish, who is a professional, aerospace illustrator, has spent the last three decades developing a detailed engineering drawing of the ARV, which his friend Brad Sorensen saw demonstrated in 1988. Based upon descriptions provided by Sorensen, an unnamed artist produced the ARV cutaway drawing shown below. It was first published in 1991 in Bill Cooper’s book, Behold A Pale Horse, and colorized at a later date.

Who Built The ARV?

In his 1991 book, Behold A Pale Horse,4 William “Bill” Cooper reported that the ARV was “built by Northrop, McDonald [sic] Douglas, and General Electric.” Brad Sorensen originally reported that he saw three ARVs inside the “Big Hangar” at Norton Air Force Base in 1988. But according to Timothy Good: “In later tellings, he [Sorensen] added a twist: that in fact the demonstration did not occur at Norton [Air Force Base]. Rather, a group was escorted aboard an Air Force passenger jet and flown fifty miles northwest to Palmdale. They arrived at the Lockheed Martin Skunkworks [sic] facility at the west end of the com-

plex, and it was here that the entire exhibit was held. It appears that Sorensen was originally trying to withhold certain pieces of the story.”5 As a result, the logical conclusion is that all three of the flying discs were designed and developed by Lockheed Martin Advanced Development, known as the Skunk Works, in Palmdale, California. According to Sorensen, they were all of the same design, only in different diameters—24, 60 and 120–130 feet. The illustration above is clearly the ARV with a 24-foot diameter at the base. It seems likely that a company such as General Electric was one of the subcontractors.

Crew Compartment

The crew compartment is constructed not as a hemisphere, as one might have expected, but as a sphere. Presumably, the spherical design is used as the most basic and efficient form of pressure containment. The ARV has a crew of three (not four as originally reported). The three ejection seats are mounted, facing outward, against a central column that runs from the top of the compartment into the propulsion and equipment space below. Access and egress are made though a submarine-style hatch as shown. There are no windows. Views to the exterior are made through a set of seven television cameras mounted strategically on the exterior of the crew compartment and operate in a manner similar to the gun-slaving system on an Apache helicopter. How does that work? According to McCandlish: “If [the pilot] wants to look behind him, he can pick a view in that direction, and the cameras slew in pairs. [The pilot] has a little screen in front of his helmet, and it gives him an alternate view. He [also] has a little set of glasses that he wears — in fact, you can actually buy a 3-D viewing system for your video camera now that does the same thing — so when he looks around, he has a perfect 3-D view of the outside, but no windows. Well, it’s probably because the voltages that we’re talking about [being] used in this system were probably something between, say, half a million and a million volts of electricity.”6 Below the circular floor of the crew compartment is a ninefoot diameter flywheel. Normally, a flywheel would regulate the speed and uniformity of motion of a vehicle, but here it has two purposes: it functions as a mass stabilizer and as a unipolar, electrical generator.7

Directional Control

As was discussed at some length in my article “Electrogravitic Propulsion,” at the base of the ARV is an approximately 24-foot diameter, round capacitor. The capacitor is constructed in 48 separate, individual and equal sections, shaped like pizza sections. Each section has eight plates. Using the Biefeld-Brown Effect, the plates are stacked THE MUFON JOURNAL | 19

sequentially from the bottom: negative, positive, negative, positive, negative, positive, negative, positive, with a positive plate on the top. When this set of plates is activated with electrical power, it moves in the direction of the positive plates. For example, if you wish to move vertically, you would send power to all capacitor sections. Since the ARV moves in the direction of the positive plates and all plates are then powered, the ARV would move vertically upward. If you wish to move in the northwest direction, you would only power the plates on the northwest side of the ARV.

The Control System

Now, whether you are in a planetary atmosphere or in space you have to have very fine control over the direction in which you are traveling (particularly if you are doing fasterthan-light travel!). So, you need to be able to finely allocate electrical power to only those sections of the capacitor that will send you in the desired direction. Here’s McCandlish’s description: “Now, when Brad described the control system, he said that on one side [of the pilot’s seat] there was this big high-voltage potentiometer — it’s like a rheostat, a big controller. It allows you to put progressively more electricity through the system as you push the lever. On the other side of the control system, there was a sort of a metallic bar that came up like a stork’s neck, and right at the very tip of it was a sort of metallic-looking ball, almost like it was magnetically attached to it. . . It was literally on a sea of energy.8

The Tesla Coil

Where does the electrical energy come from? The diagram on page 18 shows what is like a giant Tesla coil. The Tesla primary coil (see diagram) is located at the waist or beltline of the ARV and encircles the ARV. It consists of square copper tubing, sixteen layers deep, with a triangular cross-section. “Start-up” electricity is from two 24-volt, marine-type batteries (not shown). According to McCandlish: “[Then] you step up that electricity through the secondary coil , which is on the [central] column in the middle, and you get this extremely high voltage. You can selectively put the voltage on any of these 48 capacitor sections.9 The Tesla secondary coil (see diagram) is in the center of the primary coil and surrounds the central column.

The Central Column

The central column contains two cylinders—a main cylinder and an inner cylinder. Both of these cylinders contain mercury vapor in a partial vacuum. Inside the main cylinder, there is a second, inner cylinder with an unusually-contoured shape (described below). During operation, 20 | JUNE 2020

the entire column of mercury vapor is subjected to a very high voltage from the secondary Tesla coil. There is an anode at the base of the column (see diagram) where the high voltage, electron stream from the coil is discharged. The inner cylinder rotates so as to create a violent vortex of mercury vapor within that cylinder. The upper end of the interior cylinder acts as a venturi for this purpose and also as a cathode. The mercury vapor goes down the inner cylinder and up through the gap between the inner cylinder and the inner wall of the main cylinder. There are no voids within the column.10 What causes the cylinders to rotate? Mercury placed in a magnetic field and then subjected to an electrical current will naturally rotate.11, 12 This causes the inner cylinder to rotate on a set of bearings. The inner cylinder is connected to a pair of planetary gear drives that drive the outer cylinder in the opposite direction to achieve counter-rotation. The rotating inner cylinder also drives the flywheel/unipolar generator. For those who missed my article “Mystical, Magical Mercury—Part 1”, the process described here was first tested in “The Bell” experiment by Nazi Germany during WWII. Not to put too fine a point on this: “The Bell” discharged high-voltage electricity into mercury vapor under a high-velocity vortex.13

The Distortion of Space-Time

From my article on zero point energy (ZPE), we learned that it’s a seething mass of energy constantly fluctuating throughout the Universe. As the ARV passes through the ZPE, the ZPE is drawn into the system interacting with the mercury vapor vortex under high voltage. As the ZPE is absorbed, the ARV, under these conditions, prevents the ZPE from interacting with the atomic structure of the vehicle. At the atomic level, this lessened ZPE absorption reduces the mass of the of the entire ARV. This sequence causes the ARV to become mass-reduced (i.e., with lesser mass). As the ARV increases in velocity, it encounters increasing amounts of ZPE, thereby further reducing the ARV’s mass. Concurrently, the ZPE provides additional power to the capacitor section. This dual combination of effects, this very elaborate, electrochemical “exotic dance,” distorts space-time and creates a space-time “bubble” around the ARV. As McCandlish says, “In effect, the faster you go, the easier it becomes to go up to and exceed the speed of light.”14 So why use mercury vapor? Mercury is a superconductor. So, mercury vapor conducts electricity without any resistance. According to McCandlish, “it produces all kinds of ionic effects. These little molecules of mercury become charged in unusual ways, and if you fire a tremendous amount of electricity through mercury vapor that’s in a partial vacuum, there is something unusual that happens in that process.”15 The end result is that space-time in the

immediate region of the ARV is distorted and a space-time bubble is created.

trains are usually just white and grow in length with the velocity of the craft.”

Performance

TLK: How is space-time controlled once the “bubble” is created?

The following is extracted from Timothy Good’s Earth: An Alien Enterprise: “Nearby, a [three-star] general was addressing a group of people, referring to the craft and citing various attributes, including an extravagant claim that they could perform at “light speed or better,” [Richard] Dolan learned from McCandlish. “It had extraordinary acceleration and maneuverability, able to move from a ground-level hovering position to 80,000 feet within 2.5 seconds. . . . Sorensen noted that the [ARV] looked ‘ancient’ and as though it had been used extensively.”16

Cross Talk With Mark McCandlish

The following are direct quotations from McCandlish based on more recent whistleblower testimony:17 TLK: What material composes the main and inner cylinders? MM: “Two counter-rotating, fused Quartz cylinders. The upper end of the inner cylinder acts as a kind of venturi and cathode discharge port for the high voltage from the Tesla Coil section. The internal cylinder contours resemble an ancient Greek shipping bottle called an Amphora. The shape creates a self-stabilizing “smoke ring” formation of high-energy Mercury ions that in turn create their own electromagnetic field. The timing of this event is critical so that the field lines of the Tesla Coils, (primary and secondaries) coincide with the formation of this traveling ring of Mercury ions. This creates the non-destructive electromagnetic pinching effect. At the same time, the capacitor array and the coils are in a kind of reflective resonance like a [oscillating] circuit, which has certain properties that might appear as “free energy” but are in fact benefiting from what amounts to a “virtual plasma” in the core. All the benefits of a true plasma but without the destructive heat. Probably the means by which Zero Point Energy is drawn into the system.” TLK: How far from the ARV’s exterior does the [space-time] “bubble” extend? MM: “The radius increases in proportion to the power level that the propulsion system is operating at. At high power, mainly after dark, within the atmosphere, it appears as a brilliant bluish-white sphere. At low or the lowest power level, say in a hover above the ground, it is nearly conformal to the shape of the craft itself. The color of the field changes with power output as well, starting out as a magenta, then red, orange, yellow-orange, yellow, yellow-white, white and then a bluish white or white with a bluish corona. Ionization

MM: “The [allocation] of voltage to the capacitor [sections] within the array help to change the topology of the field and essentially steer the craft.”

Additional ARV Features and Video

Years after the cutaway drawing was first published in 1991, new features have come to light. More recently, the updated drawings have shown a series of air tanks radiating outwardly and horizontally from the center column of the ARV. Additionally, there is a folding, remote manipulator arm (similar to the space shuttle RMA, but much smaller) and an exterior panel that, when opened, would allow the arm to extend and grasp objects in space (such as a component of a satellite, for example). And, there are apparently rails at the back of each crew seat for ejection in the event of an emergency. McCandlish has noted that the entire ARV when, viewed from the exterior, is uniformly gray in color.

Alleged USAF photo of ARV near Provo, Utah (1966)18

There’s a full-length video on YouTube.com that has an extended narrative by McCandlish, Michel Schratt and others. The video shows examples of the evolution of the ARV drawing over the decades. The video is somewhat dated, so many of the details in this article are not presented in the video. See Note 3 below.

Commentary

This startling description is the result of three decades of deductive, scientific and engineering analysis on the part of Mark McCandlish.
