Beverley Jackson moved to SB in 1963 from Los Angeles. She wrote a social column for Santa Barbara News-Press from 1968-1992. She also wrote the award winning book Splendid Slippers on Chinese footbinding and ﬁve other books on China. She has a new book coming out on Dolls of Spain. Jackson is avid doll collector and collector of interesting people. She is also now seriously making and exhibiting pine needle baskets and collage.

Sigrid Toye’s volunteer activities include mentoring the ‘Breakwater Flag Project’, an array of 27 flags representing Santa Barbara’s major non-profits, a community program co-sponsored by the Santa Barbara Yacht Club and the Waterfront Department. �� N MAY 15TH, THE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WILL CONSIDER AMENDING THE �� COUNTY ZONING ORDINANCE�� Thirty-ﬁve homes in Montecito were totally destroyed in the �� January 9th debris ﬂow, and another 181 sustained moderate�� to-severe damage that has not yet been repaired. The county is �� proposing changes to its zoning ordinance that would fast-track �� rebuilding for people who lost their homes. �� Tracking the damage �� For safety reasons, we �� don’t want them to build �� in the same spot. I can �� take responsibility for this �� idea, whether people �� love it or hate it. �� – Supervisor Das Williams �� We want to move forward �� expeditiously, but also �� judiciously. A screening of the documentary ﬁlm of Lutah Maria Riggs at the Friendship Manor was attended by many community members including Reba Gonzales, Dawn Nayak, Margaret Morrison, (Guests) Mark Whitehurst and Kerry Methner, Professor Melinda Gandara (Speaker); Don Coray, Goleta Mayor Paula Perotte, John Grable, Eileen Hlinka, and Imke Bomer. The event was hosted by Priscilla and included refreshments enjoyed to musical musings of the talented Dennis Prager playing an assortment of jazz classics on a beautiful grand piano prior to the movie. Following the screening UCSB Professor Melinda Gandara discussed the making of the movie and the inﬂuence of Riggs on the local architecture. ��
