Sony recently introduced the slim edition of the PS5 gaming console in India, and according to multiple sources, the company is currently asking game developers to optimise and ready their titles for the upcoming PS5 Pro, which is said to be three times faster than the regular PS5 and is expected to launch in the later part of 2024.

According to a YouTube video from the channel Moore’s Law (currently down due to a copyright claim by Sony), the PlayStation 5 Pro is internally known as Trinity, which is said to go official in Q4 2024, around the holiday season.

The video included screenshots from the technical documentation of the PS5 Pro, offering clear insight into the specifications, features, and capabilities of Sony’s most advanced gaming console. The Sony PS5 Pro is said to be capable of 67 teraflops of 16-bit floating-point calculations or 33.5 teraflops of single-precision compute, which makes it 45 per cent faster in rendering performance than the regular PS5.

The PS5 Pro is still based on AMD compute, and according to a report by Insider Gaming, it would have graphics power equivalent to Radeon RX 7800 XT, which can easily render graphics in 4K resolution with up to three times better ray-tracing performance and offer up to 8K resolution output in performance mode. The report also highlights that Sony has started seeding DevKits for studios since September 2023.

According to an earlier leak, the CPU on the PS5 Pro can hit up to 3.85GHz on the CPU, which makes it 10 per cent faster than the PS5’s 3.5GHz clock speed. It is also said to pack faster memory with up to 576GB/s and is also said to introduce PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technology, which will smartly upscale 1080p resolution content to 4K resolution.

Festive offer

With all these hardware upgrades, the PS5 Pro is likely to be more expensive than the PS5, and even in terms of design, the PS5 Pro is likely to come in a different form factor to help users differentiate between the PS5 and the PS5 Pro.
