Shotaro and Sungchan exit NCT, will debut in a new boy group: SM Entertainment

Sungchan and Shotaro were a part of NCT U and had not participated in any of the sub-units as of now. NCT U saw participation from all the 20 members, depending on the song.

After being a part of K-pop band NCT for a little under three years, Shotaro and Sungchan have exited NCT. The group’s agency SM Entertainment put out a statement explaining that the two artists will launch their new band in 2023, which will have more Japanese representation.

“As NCT members, Sungchan and Shotaro have presented wondrous performances. However, they will be closing their chapter with NCT and debuting in a new boy group that will launch in 2023,” read a part of SM Entertainment’s statement. NCT has had many sub-units and as per the statement, the new group will be “the final group to be a part of NCT’s infinite expansion.”

The rest of the members of the new band are yet to be announced but the agency said that they will be “unvealing new members and sharing their debut journey with the fans.” The statement also requested the fans to support their new endevour as it said, “We ask for your kind understanding and support for Sungchan and Shotaro as they begin a new chapter.”

NCT is a 20-member band which is divided into five sub-units. The members here are from South Korea, Japan, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Macau, Canada and United States. Shotaro, who is from Japan, and Sunchan, who is from South Korea, were the last ones to join the band.
