GTA Online: Rockstar Games Will End Support for Windows 7 and 8 Soon - Grand Theft Auto Online

Rockstar Games, the company behind the GTA series, recently ended support for GTA Online on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. They are now planning to end the support for Windows 7 and 8 as well.

There are still millions of users who are still using the old Windows 7 and 8 (Windows 11 is the latest OS version), and they are set to lose out on playing GTA online by the end of 2023.

GTA Online no longer playable on Windows 7 and 8 in 2024

The support from Rockstar Games for Windows 7 and 8 will end on January 30, 2024. It is important to mention that this decision comes as a reaction by Rockstar Games to Microsoft's decision to end support for Windows 7 and 8. Microsoft ended support for Windows 7 on January 14, 2023, while support for Windows 8 ended on January 10, 2023.

“In light of Microsoft’s end of support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems, Rockstar Games will no longer officially support these operating systems beginning January 30, 2024,” wrote Rockstar Games in their announcement.

It seems like all signs point towards an indication that players should be upgrading to the newer OS to enjoy games and GTA Online is not the only game getting affected and it is believed that long-running MMOs such as Ultima Online and World Of Warcraft will also suffer similar fate, as highlighted by Metro.co.uk.

As mentioned above, a lot of people still use Windows 7 (over 100 million users). So if you’re on Windows 7 or 8, Rockstar Games has recommended to “upgrade to a supported operating system as soon as possible” to “prevent any future interruptions of service.”
