Today’s game is Michael Ninn’s Latex: The Game
The minds behind this masterpiece of fetish are those of the VCA Interactive that, no suprise, haven’t pusblished anything more during their short existence. Probably they thought they couldn’t do better. So let’s go back to the good old Michael Ninn, born as a videoclip director who remade himself into a porn director and founder of Ninn Worx that produced dozenf of pluriawarded movies. His first big success is Latex made in 1996 for which he won the Best Director prize at the AVN Awards a.k.a. the porn Academy Awards. The movie that I haven’s seen yet – I swear – but I suppose it can be easily found online (I don’t suppose it, I know it, but I’m not completely sure I can link to an adult site without getting a ban from WP) was successful enough to spawn a videogame and giving the fact that we’re in the mid-90s what’s better for a bad video games then the FMV technique? And all this fuss to try to get some informations about a guy named Malcolm Stevens capable to read people’s mind and extract their sexual fantasies. Cyberpunk porn.

Le menti dietro a questo capolavoro fetish sono quelle della VCA Interactive che, sorpresa sorpresa, non pubblicarono mai nient’altro nella loro brevissima esistenza. Forse pensavano che non avrebbero potuto fare di meglio. Facciamo quindi un passo indietro e parliamo del buon Michael Ninn, nato come direttore di videoclip e riciclatosi con successo nel porno, nonchè fondatore della Ninn Worx che ha all’attivo decine di film pluripremiati. Il suo primo grande successo è proprio Latex del 1996 per il quale vince la palma di Best Director agli AVN Awards a.k.a. gli Oscar del porno. Il film, che non ho ancora visto – giuro – ma suppongo si possa facilmente trovare online (no, non lo suppongo, lo so, ma non sono sicuro di poter linkare siti per adulti senza che WP mi banni) fu abbastanza di successo da generare un gioco, e visto che siamo a metà anni 90, quale miglior tecnologia per un giocaccio se non quella FMV? E tutto st’ambaradan per cercare di scoprire qualcosa di più su uno psicotico di nome Malcolm Stevens in grado di leggere le mente delle persone e carpirne le fantasie sessuali. Porno cyberpunk.
Why is forgotten?
As much as videogames (nay, way more), porn is an hectic industry where everything changes within a year: 90% the stars you see now will be probably out of the industry in 12 months or they will be replaced by other more successful, so it’s not something unusual if you forgot about Michael Ninn (before today I didn’t even know who was him). Consider also that the FMV technique never really had a chance in the video games: I mean yes, there are some good games that made use of it but for the largest part are forgettable games some of which has been recently reassessed (like Night Trap, for example). Also I don’t think VCA had the strenght (and the will) to massively promote this game so it has quickly fallen into oblivion.
Così come il mondo dei videogiochi (anzi, sicuramente di più) il del porno è un’industria in continuo divenire dove tutto cambia nell’arco di un anno: il 90% delle star che vedete oggi probabilmente avranno lasciato tutto tra 12 mesi o saranno state rimpiazzate da altre più di successo, quindi non è strano che voi vi siate dimenticati di Michael Ninn (prima di oggi io non sapevo neanche che fosse). Considerate anche che la tecnica FMV non ha mai realmente avuto la possibilità di imporsi dnel mondo dei videogiochi: cioè sì, ok ci sono stati buoni giochi che ne hanno fatto uso ma per la gran parte si tratta di giochi assolutamente dimenticabili che sono solo stati recentemente rivalutati (come, per esempio, Night Trap). Inoltre non penso che VCA abbia mai avuto la forza (e la volontà) di promuovere in modo massiccio questo gioco che quindi cadde velocemente nell’oblio
Why is forbidden?
Well, a semi-pornographic game inspired by a 100% porn is not something nice and easy and I don’t think ESRB would release it light hearterdly. Moreover the game abounds in scenes with uninhibited girls in tight dresses (when they’re dressed) of course in latex and grim guys with laces and straps (of course in leather) giving a bit of old in-out, in-out on some weepy young devotchkas (sorry for the heresy of citing Kubrick this time).
Beh un gioco semi-porno derivato da un 100%-porno non è proprio una roba all’acqua di rose e non penso proprio l’ESRB lo rilascerebbe a cuor leggero. Inoltre il gioco abbonda di scene con donnine disinibilte in vesti succinte (quando sono vestite) ovviamente di lattice e di turpi figuri che indossano cinghie e lacci (ovviamente di pelle) mentre fanno un po’ di sano su e giù con le loro devočke (scusate per la bestemmia, citare Kubrick qui dentro è un’eresia).
Why is fun?
When a game has an average score around 20% you know it’s a pleasure to play it, just for the lulz. Even though this is not a mere porn with a videogame label on and even features some sequences where you have to solve some puzzle, for sure these are not the thing that you’re remembering after playing it. They say (online, and I have no way to prove it) that this is one of the beste selling game dedicated exclusively to adults. Although I have absolutely no proof to support this statment nor to deny it, so my opinion has no value, I can hardly believe it…
Quando un gioco ha uno score medio attorno al 20% sapete che è un piacere giocarci, giusto per farsi due risate. Pur non essendo un porno con sopra l’etichetta di videogioco e contenga addirittura delle sequenze puzzle con enigmi da risolvere, di sicuro non sono queste le cose che saltano all’occhio. Si dice (online, e non so quanto sia vero) che questo sia uno dei giochi più venduti del genere destinati esclusivamente ad un pubblico adulto. Sebbene non abbia nessuna prova a supporto o a confutare questa tesi e quindi il mio parere conta ben poco, faccio una gran fatica a crederci…
How can I play it?
On the website myabandonware.com a Win 3.x version is available for a free download, but weights a whopping 850+ Mb. Is it really worth it? I don’t think/don’t know/don’t wanna know if a physical version for sale still exists or if it has ever existed but I sincerely doubt it, so if you really want to hurt yourself that bad, get what you find online.
Sul sito myabandonware.com esiste una versione scaricabile gratuitamente per Win 3.x, ma pesa esorbitanti 850+ Mb. Ne vale veramente la pena? Non penso/non so/non voglio sapere se esiste o sia mai esistita una versione per la vendita del gioco, ma sinceramente ne dubito, quindi se veramente volete favi del male di brutto, predete quello che passa il convento online.
