Publio Terencio Afro

Publius Terentius Afro (Latin: Publius Terentius Afer) was a playwright during the Roman Republic. The exact date of his birth is unknown, although Suetonius mentions that he died in 159 BC. C. at the age of thirty-five. This gives the year 194 BC. C. as the date of his birth. His comedies premiered between 170 and 160 BC. C. Throughout his life he wrote only six works, all preserved. By comparison, his predecessor Plautus wrote about 130 works, and we currently have the texts of only 25 of them.
