About Pinstripe Calathea
Many of the houseplants we used to know as Calatheas now belong to the genus Goeppertia (say that three times fast). These plants have delightfully patterned leaves that come in all sorts of colors and shapes! Commonly known as prayer plants, the leaves of some species fold up at night through a process called nyctinasty meaning night movement! 😴

Finding light for Pinstripe Calathea in your home
Pinstripe Calathea may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Pinstripe Calathea in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize Pinstripe Calathea
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Pinstripe Calathea after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Hi! I just recently got this pinstripe calathea, delivered on Monday. One of its leaves is curling inward, I've been trying to mist to keep the humidity up and keep the soil moist but not overly moist. How do I fix this? #PinstripePlant

When do you decide to "give up" on a plant? Walter (the pinstripe calathea) was my very first plant as a plant parent in early October 2023 . He sparked my enjoyment of plants. When I first got him, he was tall, lush and thriving but that's when I learned about how finicky the calathea family can be and ever since then I have been in a power struggle with a plant that seemed to prefer death. I have purchased a special grow light and had it installed in my cubicle at work, I have gone through three humidifiers, added a rock tray with water beneath. I changed soil, used moisture meters to make sure I am not watering too often or not enough, I surrounded him with other plants, watched and read hours of information on calatheas. My desk is known as the zen garden at work because of everything I have added to try to help Walter thrive. And yet he still looks like he was put through a meat grinder. So I have to ask you other plant parents, when do you throw in the towel and walk away or cut the plant back 100% and start fresh? Help!

How do you prevent brown spots? #PinstripePlant

Brown in the tips of leaves I have this pinstripe and lately some of the leaves are having the tips of its leaves dry and brown. What could I do?

Is this under watering? Yellow leaves curling inwards, shriveling, crisping into brown

Overwatered? This is my moms and im trying to figure out why he's yellowing. I think she watered him 3 weeks ago but the soil is still wet. I just put him under a grow light and poked some holes in the soil to hopefully help it be able to dry out a bit. #PinstripePlant

Not sure what’s turning my pinstripe transparent. It’s about to give off some new leaves so I was hoping to figure it out before it impacts the new leaves. #CalatheaCrew #sickplants #Hydroponics #HappyPlants #PestControl

Pinstripe calathea yellow leaves Hi! I’m having some issues with me new calathea, had it about 3 weeks and it looked healthy when I bought it. How some of the leaves are furling and turning a lighter yellow, any ideas of how to fix this? I’m watering it once a week, misting it every few days, it gets indirect sunlight, I make sure to move it off the windowsill on sunny days. I have been top watering, would it be best to change this? It’s currently in a plastic container in a ceramic container. I’ve also been watering it with bottled water as I’m in a hard water area. Lastly, it’s got a houseplant drip feeder in it! That’s a lot of information, but let me know if u have any ideas! Thanks for your time!

What other plant parents say
This plant is so needy and is not at all hardy. I was lured in by its beauty and am now very put off by how quickly it died after a small spider mite infestation. Even when fully healthy, it browned easily and lost its prayer motion quickly, and constantly wanted attention.
This is the sweetest looking plant with the lovely pink stripes across the deep green leaves. This plant is low light tolerant and forgiving. It’s leaves don’t close/drop as severely as other prayer plants so you can enjoy the pretty pink details of this plant all the time. If you want to bring a little color to your houseplant family, this is a great choice.
