Seven Terriers Named to All-Patriot League Teams

May 1, 2023

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Highlighted by four first-team selections, seven members of the Boston University men's lacrosse team were named to All-Patriot League teams, the conference announced on Monday.

This is the second straight year that BU boasts seven All-League players, which is tied for the most in the conference. Seniors and Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-Americans Vince D'Alto, Roy Meyer and Patrick Morrison all repeated as First Team All-Patriot League selections while classmate Louis Perfetto earned first-team accolades for the first time. Graduate student Timmy Ley received Second Team All-Patriot League recognition for the second consecutive season and was joined on the second-team squad by senior Thomas Niedringhaus and junior Tommy Bourque, both of whom are first-time honorees.

D'Alto was arguably the best offensive player in the conference this season. He led the Terriers with 64 points and 41 goals, and his 23 assists were second on the squad. D'Alto, currently ninth in the nation with 4.92 points per game, recorded at least one point in all 13 games this year, including a season-high nine against Holy Cross on March 18. D'Alto notched at least five points on nine separate occasions and had at least two points in all but one contest. He twice scored six goals in a game - against Holy Cross and on April 4 at Yale. For as much as he had the ball in his stick, D'Alto only committed 15 turnovers, less than half that of the choice for PL Offensive Player of the Year. In fact, only one other player in the top 10 nationally for points per game had fewer turnovers than D'Alto. The Kings Park, New York, native also collected 32 ground balls and had five caused turnovers.

Perfetto continued to shine at attack for the Terriers in 2023. A senior captain, he led BU with 34 assists and enters the playoffs ranked eighth in the country with 2.62 assists per game. Perfetto also scored 25 goals and is second on the Terriers with 59 points. He recorded at least three points in all but one game this season, including a career-high eight at Bucknell in which he recorded a career-best seven assists. Perfetto tallied seven points (3g, 4a) against Lehigh on April 22 to help BU clinch a top-two seed, and his six-goal effort at Lafayette helped complete a second-half comeback against the Leopards. Perfetto committed the third-fewest turnovers of the top 10 players in the NCAA in assists per game. He is currently five assists away from 100 for his illustrious career.

Meyer turned in another fine season as he continues to be the top LSM in the country. Meyer led BU with 26 caused turnovers and was second on the squad (and first among non-faceoff specialists) with 62 ground balls. Nationally, Meyer ranked seventh in caused turnovers per game (2.17) and fourth among non-faceoff specialists in ground balls per game (4.77). He became the first Terrier in program history to record 100 caused turnovers and enters the postseason with 114 during his impressive career. Meyer recorded at least two caused turnovers in all 13 contests, including a career-high 10 at Bucknell on March 11. He twice recorded five caused turnovers, including in the Terriers' win over Lehigh on April 22. Meyer also scored a career-best three goals and helped the Terriers finish the regular season ranked second in the nation on the ride, holding opponents to just a .785 clearing percentage.

Morrison, a four-time PL Defensive Player of the Week, was arguably the best close defender in the conference in 2023. Typically tasked with covering the opponent's top attackman, he set new career highs with 44 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers, including six ground balls and two caused turnovers in Friday's win at then-No. 9 Army West Point. Morrison ranked fourth in the Patriot League among non-faceoff players with 3.38 ground balls per game. He recorded at least two caused turnovers in each of the final four games of the regular season and averaged 4.0 ground balls per game during the Terriers' three-game win streak that propelled them to the regular-season crown.

Ley had another outstanding season at attack, totaling 36 goals and adding 14 assists for 50 points. The two-year captain became the first Terrier in program history to record 200 career points and enters the postseason with 148 goals and 63 assists for 211 points. He notched at least two goals in all 13 starts, including a pair of five-goal efforts in wins at Bucknell (March 11) and over Harvard (March 21). Ley is tied for 10th in the nation with seven man-up goals as he helped BU rank third in the nation on EMOs. Along with D'Alto and Perfetto, Ley is part of a Terrier attack unit that ranks fourth in the NCAA with 173 combined points.

One of just four offensive players to start all 13 games for the Terriers, Bourque led the BU midfield with 24 points on 17 goals and a career-best seven assists. He totaled 12 goals and three assists for 15 points during the Terriers' seven-game win streak, including a two of his three total four-point efforts. He recorded a career-high three goals at then-No. 20/18 UMass on Feb. 25, and also tallied two goals and two assists in a crucial victory over Lehigh on April 22. Bourque notched at least two goals on six separate occasions, with BU winning all six games.

Niedringhaus appeared in all 13 games out of the Terrier midfield, scoring a career-high 17 goals and adding one assist for a career-best 18 points. He scored three game-winning goals, including the overtime strike in a 16-15 victory at Bryant on Feb. 18, a game in which he recorded a career-high four goals. Niedringhaus also broke an 11-11 tie with 2:51 remaining in regulation in the Terriers' 12-11 triumph at then-No. 9 Army West Point on Friday that clinched the Terriers' second consecutive PL regular-season title. Friday marked the sixth time that Niedringhaus scored at least two goals, with BU going 5-1 in those contests. All 17 of his goals came during six-on-six play.

The top-seeded Terriers will host the Patriot League semfinals and championship game on May 5 and 7 at Nickerson Field. BU will face the lowest remaining seed in the first semifinal on Friday at 4 p.m., with the game to be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.
