[Cineplex.com] Cineplex CineClub membership - $9.99/month for 1 movie per month + discounts

As per this ad in the newly-revived Cineplex magazine, it looks like Cineplex is introducing a paid membership program called CineClub:

  • "a movie every month" (ad doesn't clarify whether there'll be any restrictions, e.g. "No Passes" screenings)
  • discounted tickets
  • 20% off concessions (insert your own quip about concession margins here)
  • $9.99 + tax per month

A website is referenced in the ad - https://www.cineclub.ca - but it doesn't look like it'll launch until August 11.

Probably not worth it for most people (thus I didn't put it in Hot Deals), but if you're going at least once a month it might make sense.

Isn't it cheaper to just get passes from Costco or CAA? $9.99 i assume is per person which still is $20 a couple.
If it was unlimited movies per month, then I would consider it.

I also wish Cineplex sold different passes. Generally we try to go to the best screen which is the fake Imax at our local silvercity. Always annoying that (for the most part) you can only buy regular passes and have to pay to upgrade when used. Would be better if they sold different passes that worked on different admissions (3d, imax, vip, etc..).

I guess I'm complaining about that because I bet this membership only includes the lowest possible free movie solution.. lol.

Looks like they're running out of cash flow. Ya it doesnt say if it's valid for only the standard 2D movie, or anything like Imax

They use to have 3D Passes, and took many of them years ago when I worked there. I just don’t think any 3D option (at least in Ontario) are being offered at this time because of Covid. Maybe different in other provinces, maybe not, but could be reason they longer are being offered.

I'm interested depending on how the free movie works. Will it be for regular general admission only? And if so, can it be used like other coupon codes where it can be used for AVX/IMAX/VIP too but with just paying the upcharge?

And can I cancel anytime and re-sign up later if I want?

I guess we will see more details this week.

That's not bad, basically a no-brainer to always sign up if you want to watch a movie then cancel it for the month.

Costco cineplex tickets still seems like the better deal for 2 people though.

Aside from the original post in this thread, the ad for CineClub can be seen on page 23 of the Star Cineplex magazine at this link. There is some fine print at the bottom which is worth reading for basic terms and conditions.

In Vancouver, an average cost of a movie ticket for Cheap Tuesday is already $13/person (this was a few years ago, I'm sure it's even more expensive now).

Considering that most Hollywood movies these days are garbage. Most people only go for the blockbusters. The average person only goes to the theater like once a month. This subscription only allows you one movie viewing per month so you're really only saving $3/month if you're in Vancouver.

It's really only worth it for those who goes to the theater for the experience and doesn't care about what he/she is watching.

I don't see how this is a deal at all.

Saving ~23% is not a deal?

Plus discounts on additional tickets and 20% off concession items.

Not really, there isn't a blockbuster every month where I would care about enough to go the theater to watch, so the 20% off movie tickets means nothing to me, so does the concessions.

I'm certain I'm not the only person that feels that way.

Also, Many blockbusters these days are releasing on-demand, the same day it is in theatres. This trend will only continue.

It's not a yearly sub. Just subscribe for the month when you want to watch a movie.

And looks like there will be 45 days window before releasing digitally.
Meanwhile, other companies have made their films available to stream just a few weeks after they hit theatres, such as Paramount with A Quiet Place Part II and Universal with F9. Going forward, Paramount will also adhere to a 45-day theatrical window before bringing its movies available on streaming. Disney has confirmed it will do the same for next week’s Free Guy and September’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

I have already watched A Quiet Place Part 2 online, so as The Suicide Squad that was released a day or two ago online in HD quality. F9 is already available online in HD too.
