+atari2600land
In case you didn't know, I'm working on GoSub, this time for the Virtual Boy. I'm going to make it 2MB, hopefully room for 32 mazes. I don't know how to add sound, or flip the sprite so it's facing the right way, but here it is so far. 17 mazes. To get a level select screen, press SELECT at the title screen, or start at level 1 by pressing START. You can play this using the RealityBoy emulator, or use FlashBoy. If you decide to use FlashBoy, tell me how it runs on it. gosubvb071409.zip
yuppicide
What lanauge do you program in for the Virtual Boy?
+atari2600land
I think it's C. Don't know how many plus signs there are in front, but the extension for the source code is .c. There's some .h files I've included I've made with VIDE (the mazes).
TROGDOR
I rented a VirtualBoy system back in 1995 when it came out. I played it for 4 hours. It gave me the worst headache of my entire life, so bad that I had to miss work the next day. The problem with the system was the focus point felt like it was only 4 inches from your face. Try holding your hand 4 inches from your face and focusing on it. For me, that's painful, and I have 20/20 vision. On a modern LCD shutter system, hopefully the simulated depth perception isn't as painful. That said, it's cool you're writing a game for this system. The more obscure the system is, the more it needs game writers. And with only 770k systems produced in its short life, the VB is one of the more obscure systems out there. yuppicide
I believe I saw one in Toys R Us and got a headache. I've never owned or played one for that long. That having said, when they went on clearance I should have bought 50.
Jinroh
Awesome stuff dude. The Virtual Boy is a nice piece of hardware and just wasn't very well thought out as a portable system or one that won't cause cateracts. Nice game though the graphics are top notch and are like Nintendo quality for that beast. If I only had a VB. The closest thing I had was the R-Zone. god, I loved that thing. Had Indy500 and Batman & Robin. damn...I wish we'd have kept that thing. Edited July 21, 2009 by Jinroh

+atari2600land
There's a newer file where the collision detection works better. You can get it (as well as the source code) here.
Devin
Really cool! Are there a lot of homebrews for the Virtual Heada..... Boy?
+atari2600land
Thanks There aren't very many homebrews, the most notable being Blox (and there's a Blox 2 in the works. It's a lot like Sokoban.)
RayXambeR
It's great to see a new homebrew game on VB. Congratulations! I really appreciate (and reviewed it in a ReVival magazine issue) GoSub! on Atari 2600 (what about GoSub2? canceled?) and it could be fantastic to have it on a real cartridge in the future and not only to play on emulator. +atari2600land
GoSub 2 will be released in the next few months, it hasn't been cancelled. And after that comes Alien Greed 3.
+atari2600land
I had to remove the octopus because I couldn't get it to move. You can see the new file here.

Bill Loguidice
Any chance of an eventual cartridge release?
+atari2600land
I doubt it. There are other homebrew VB games ("Blox" and "VUE Snake" by Christian Radke, for example) that didn't get a release, either. I'll let you know in this thread otherwise. If you want to play this on a real Virtual Boy, the only option I can think of is a Flash Boy (a flash card for the Virtual Boy.)
roadrunner
Pretty good game. I'm using the emulator Red Dragon. I started emulating the Virtual Boy recently, it seems that i can't use a controller. I have to use the keyboard buttons and the games have no sound. +atari2600land
You're not missing anything in the sound department. I don't know how to program sound.
+atari2600land
I'm back working on the game again. Get the latest ROM here.
+atari2600land
The game now has 24 levels. Check out the game in the link in the post above.
the.golden.ax
As soon as I fire up my Kiosk and get this on the Flash Cart I'll post some impressions of the latest make on real hardware. I'd really like to see a full release on this. AX
+atari2600land
I worked on the collision detection code for three hours, and I got sick of doing it. Luckily, it's finished! Download the latest rom here.
+atari2600land
So far, the game has 26 levels. I just now added level 26. Download the latest rom in the link in the post above.
+atari2600land
Added level 27. The link is now in my signature. I plan to have 32 levels, if there is enough space. So all I need to do is add 5 more levels, a "congratulations" screen, test the levels I didn't test before, and it should be finished. I plan to finish it by year's end, and, if it gets released (a BIG "if"), it will next year sometime.
+atari2600land
Added level 28.
