Sega Ringedge 2 Hookup Questions
Hey Guys,
I'm looking to purchase a RE2 that I've found on YAJ. The seller has separated his RE2 set in to two different listings. However, just by looking at the second listing that apparently has the I/O and power board, I can't tell if it has everything I need to make the RE2 function properly. Can anyone here shed some light? These were the pictures that were supplied:
My issue is, I can't seem to find a JVS I/O board on this thing or where to plug in the jamma connector.

Re: Sega Ringedge 2 Hookup Questions
I have no clue about Ringedge 2 hardware, therefore take the following with due care...
The second pic definitely looks like an I/O board. Most likely the IDC connector on the top is where the wires for the controls come out. But the several power supplies around make me think this might actually be a board for motion control rather than for joysticks and such.

My 15kHz cabinet Peplos will never power up, with any item, and I am quite proud of that.

Thanks for the info guys, looks like I'll pick up the motherboard by that seller then. I take it all I need is a JVS I/O board to connect my jamma harness. Also, anyone know which power supply I need for the RE2?

Do you mean that there's a way to play RE2 games offline w/o dongles (or reencoding RE2 games with the dongle key from a RE1 game) in patching something ?soyandroid wrote:But the RingEdge2 motherboards sold by that seller are very new , pretty clean and can be used for play other games, i already bought 6 kis from that seller for play other games.

Will any JVS with a USB A port and jamma pins work for this? Also, anyone know which power supply to get?

It's the first time I see one of these. Thanks for posting the photos.
How big are they? Has anyone opened one of those already?

Thanks for the info.soyandroid wrote:There are a few RingWide games like Melty Blood and Chaos Code that works with the JVS to Jamma I/O board (Sega 838-13683-93).Hellfromabove wrote:Will any JVS with a USB A port and jamma pins work for this? Also, anyone know which power supply to get?
But most of the RingWide, RingEdge and RingEdge2 games works only with a type 3 JVS I/O boards (Sega 837-14572).
About the power supply, ringedge has an integrated universal ATX PSU (100V-240V) you only need to construct connecting cable.
Connector for RingEdge PSU is a JST VHR3N.

A bit late to this thread.
Judging as reversing a cryptographic signature, or decapping these chips, would be a major PITA, does anyone know of any firmware dumps or update reverses of the RingEdge 2 itself?

Re: Sega Ringedge 2 Hookup Questions
Very interesting! Thank you for the post!
Curious -- got any tips as to how you were able to achieve this? I am assuming that you somehow were able to modify the firmware, game software, or network response such as to obviate the connection to ALL.net.
Also -- have you been able to run updates on these games? Seeing as you posted UNIEL -- I am wondering as to whether or not you were able to update it to [st] (versions 3.00 and higher).
Last question, if it is not too much to ask -- I noticed that the Keychip ID and Main ID are missing from the RingEdge 2 bootloader screen -- did you remove these from the video (doesn't look that way), or does this have to do with the modifications you made in order to get things to run? RingEdge systems typically have an image verification stage as well during the bootloader screen, as far as I know.. this all appears to be being bypassed?

Re: Sega Ringedge 2 Hookup Questions
Intriguing!
Thank you again for the information. I do not know much about the RingEdge 2 system, but this has helped greatly. It is interesting that the ALL.net code appears to be within the games themselves, rather than handled by the firmware. I suppose this is both good (easier to modify) and bad (have to modify on a per-game basis). UNIEL [st] is of interest to me, as Phonon does not appear to have a release date for consoles.
