Newlywed mother spots “dead” baby

daughter in marriage photo

IN AUSTRALIA, a newlywed mother of four is convinced the spirit of her

daughter attended her recent marriage. When looking at their wedding

photos, Tahlia Murphy spotted a faint image of the little girl, peeking out

from behind a tree.

Posting the picture on TikTok Tahlia, 33,

wrote, “I don’t believe in many things, but I

believe she was there to watch myself and

her dad get married in honour of her.”

Last September, Tahlia told how her

seventeen months old daughter Taidyn

Murphy, nicknamed Totty, fell and drowned

in the inflatable spa at their Queensland

home.

In her viral post, which has

attracted more than 1.4 million views

and nearly 87,000 likes, Tahlia shared

a photo of herself and groom Cecil

kissing after their outdoor wedding

ceremony, in December 2022. In the

background, a hazy figure, which

looks like a small child, appears to be

watching from a distance.

“The recent loss of our daughter

had me thinking that she wasn’t there,

sharing our special day with us,” wrote

Tahlia, “This proves otherwise.”

Compassionate viewers agreed. “My

jaw dropped, then the tears came. That’s

definitely her,” wrote one TikTok user.

“My tears instantly started falling once

I’d seen her. She was making sure you

would know she is always there with you,”

said another.

“She looks like she’s wearing a lovely,

light, summery dress. She’s with you,”

another commented.

Tahlia wrote in the caption of her video,

“I’m forever missing you, my little shadow.”

NEWS

RUSSELL GRANT, a long-time friend of Psychic News, has shared an

update on his battle with brain cancer. The astrologer, medium and TV

personality, 72, had a tumour on his pituitary gland removed in December,

which saved his eyesight.

Russell (pictured right) is now recovering

following the five-hour operation and went

on Twitter to thank the “A-team” of medical

staff who completed the procedure.

The much-loved celebrity wrote:

“Before Christmas I had a brain

tumour removed by the A-Team: Prof

Pathmanaban, Dr Bhalla, Dr Kearney, the

caring nurses, and Vicky Walsh of Alex

Hospital Manchester, also Dr Wilton of YG

(Ysbyty Gwynedd), Bangor.

“I’m now into recovery on

@BrainTumourOrg Day. Thank you all.”

Russell posted a cheerful picture of

himself wearing his beloved Wealdstone

FC polo shirt. The post also included links

to The Pituitary Foundation and Rare

Disease Day, which was held on February

28.

Russell underwent the delicate

operation to remove the lump after

doctors said it threatened to “blank out”

his optic nerve. He was instructed not to

sneeze or blow his nose for the next six

months to prevent complications.

In December, Russell told Emmeline

Saunders of the Mirror that he had

foreseen health problems for himself three

years earlier, but kept his premonition

quiet.  “I saw something pretty major

coming when giving my lecture in

Blackpool on December 1, 2019, so I was

prepared,” he explained.

He had been speaking at the Northern

Lights Astrological Society. Within a week,

his mother suffered a stroke, and his brain

tumour started to develop. Soon after,

Covid-19 began to spread, bringing chaos

to the health system.

“I didn’t shout about the growth, as I’d

been waiting for a knee operation which

was due Easter 2020, so many of you

would have presumed I was going in for

that,” Russell said.

“Covid ruined that. So, it’s next on my

list of things to do.”

He added that he had consulted two

astrologer friends to find the best day for

his operation, and said he was “eternally

grateful” to them for “helping me to help

myself”.

Russell also tweeted that he had

received thousands of messages from fans,

saying: “Thank you for your incredible

words and messages of love and support.

On the health front, it’s one of those

days of fatigue/exhaustion: it’s a post op

symptom. Sending reams of gratitude.”

Psychic News has followed the career of

Russell Grant closely, starting in the 1960s.

The then teenage lad caught the attention

of the paper when he was demonstrating

his mediumship gift at the Sanctuary of

the Silver Cross, a Spiritualist church in

Uxbridge, Middlesex.

Talking to former PN editor Roy

Stemman in 2016 he recalled, “It was

a message I gave to a woman in the

congregation that got me mentioned in

Psychic News. I said to her, ‘I’ve got a lot of

birds around your head and I think they’re

sparrows,’ and she looked at me and said,

‘My name’s Mrs Sparrow.’

“I then went to another lady and asked,

‘Why have I got a burning building? Oh

no, hold on, it’s not a building, it’s like a

caravan.’ She said, ‘Because my caravan

was set alight four weeks ago in Clacton’.”

Psychic News described the lad as a

“young prodigy.” Roy commented, “It

seemed that young Russell Grant was

heading for psychic stardom, but he had

an even greater ambition to be in show

business.”

The wish came true; he would become

friends with some of the biggest names

in showbiz, including world-renowned

psychic, Doris Stokes.

He had also been studying astrology,

the former editor said. Russell told him, “It

was just a hobby, but I found it fascinating.

I didn’t believe all the signs of the zodiac

could fit the whole of humanity and, of

course, when I went into it in depth I

realised it didn’t. Every chart is different,

depending on an individual’s date, time

and place of birth.

“I also exploded other myths. For

example, you don’t predict the future. It’s

all about freewill and choice.”

It was at a meeting of the Astrological

Lodge of Great Britain that fellow

astrologer Rita Szymanski saw Russell

and his chart. She offered to teach him

everything she knew, predicting that

he would become the most well-known

astrologer of the century.

Roy Stemman continued, “In time,

Russell was asked to write an astrological

column for the Daily Mail, which proved

Russell Grant shares his

cancer recovery news

to be life changing.” For a while, he also

contributed a horoscope to the pages of

Psychic News.

In March 1978, the Queen Mother

accepted a chart from Russell and he was

soon being described as “the Astrologer

Royal.” He was the first person in 300 years

to publicly give an astrological consultation

to the British Royal Family.

He said that was when his hobby “blew

up into something quite incredible, really.”

Soon he was the king of Breakfast TV,

instantly recognisable in his trademark,

colourful sweaters.

However, in private Russell found

himself caring for his two grandmothers

Alice and Lily, both of whom suffered from

Alzheimer’s. Russell said he found little

support. He vowed to devote a third of his

working life to helping find a cure for the

disease and other forms of dementia.

Roy Stemman wrote, “Their passings left

a void in his life and he suffered from severe

depression, became suicidal and ballooned

to 27 stone through comfort eating. Slowly,

he took control of his life, shed weight at

the gym and then returned to the spotlight

on Strictly Come Dancing, proving to be a

popular contestant.

“His spectacular departure from the

2011 show, when he was fired from

a cannon, watched by sixteen million

viewers, is regarded as one of Strictly’s most

memorable moments,” Roy added.

In January 2021 Russell told of his

heartbreak at the passing of his mother Jo

due to Covid-19. He wrote on social media,

“It is with a deep and heartfelt sadness

that my brother Garry and I have to tell

you that our beloved mother, Jo, passed

over to a better world yesterday.” Again,

he thanked the “selfless dedication” of the

“hardworking NHS stars” who had cared

for the 93-year-old in her final days.

Medium discovered missing mum Nicola Bulley

THE heartbreaking search for missing mother Nicola Bulley was

brought to an end when a Spiritualist located her body.

Manchester medium Jason Rothwell

admitted he had used his gift to find her,

after his identity was revealed in the

media. He had been seen pointing to an

area of reeds in the River Wyre, showing

officers where he had seen a body, ending

23 days of speculation and concern.

Nicola was located less than a mile from

where she disappeared while walking her

dog beside the river at St Michael’s-onWyre, Lancashire. A huge search by police,

dogs and the community had brought no

clue to her whereabouts. The pressure of

press and social media interest had been

immense.

In 2018 Jason Rothwell had helped to

locate missing person Michael Brooks,

19, who was found in the River Ribble

in Penwortham, Lancashire, following

a two-week search. Knowing how

distraught Nicola’s friends and family

were, Jason decided to try and assist.

He explained on Facebook and

Instagram, “Having previously assisted in

the recovery of Michael Brooks, I decided

to use whatever ‘gift’ it is we mediums

possess, to try and locate Nicola Bulley.”

He wrote: “As has obviously become

apparent, yes, it is myself in the images in

the media currently circulating relating to

the case of Nicola Bulley and yes, yesterday

morning it was myself and a friend who

reported and assisted the police in the

recovery of a body from the River Wyre.”

He thanked Lancashire Police for

their “help, support, and the open

mindedness with which they dealt with

us, following our call. Spiritualists or

mediums are obviously not something

the police come across every day, and I

appreciate the respect given to us both.”

Jason said the family had not

asked him to help with the search,

but he felt compelled to act due to

the “wild speculation and hurtful

commentary” that had been circulating

about the disappearance.

He released the statement after

his identity was discovered by users

of YouTube and TikTok. Some sceptics

suggested that finding two bodies in

five years could imply that he had been

involved in the disappearances.

As the spotlight turned on him,

Jason announced he would not be

taking requests for readings. He is still

serving at his local churches such as

Hythe Christian Spiritualist Church and

Congleton SNU Spiritualist Church.

He also hosts charity events.

The whole episode has brought

widescale criticism about the unhelpful

conspiracy theories and “amateur

detectives” who conducted private

investigations to fuel their own

popularity on the internet. Nicola’s

family had expressed anger and dismay

at the “vile theories” and “appalling

rumours,” while they were trying to

remain positive about the outcome.

Jason, 33, travelled from Manchester

to use his intuition, and he was led to the

body. Before it had been confirmed as

Nicola, he said, “My thoughts and prayers

are with her family, friends and loved ones

at this time and I do hope, that if it is indeed

Nicola, they can find some peace with

this. If it is not, I would send my prayers

to the family of whomsoever it may be.”

He added, “As a final note, I will not

be giving any further information or

commentary at this time regarding

the work involved in finding this

person nor is it my place to engage

in any discussion on how that body

came to originally be in the water.”

At a press conference, Lancashire

Police announced that the body was

that of Nicola Bulley. Her disappearance

is still being treated as unexplained

while enquiries continue.

Victim of racism is now a

psychic to the stars

A SCOTTISH psychic has told how racist bullying at school led her

to uncover her roots and her clairvoyant gift.

Laura Tuach, known as Madre Palmistry,

is in great demand for her insights, with

clients travelling from far afield to her

apartment in Dumbarton. She has even

helped reality TV stars and Premiership

footballers with predictions for the future.

Daily Record reporter Fraser Clarke

wrote: “Now she welcomes clients

looking for guidance and miracles to her

Wallace Street flat. She is the author

of one of Kindle’s most popular books

on empowerment and self-healing. The

book charts Laura’s life from finding out

about her mixed Irish and Indian heritage,

embracing her roots, and learning more

about what she believes is her ancestral

gift.”

Laura, a single mum with three children,

believes her gift is hereditary and that

her children are intuitive too. She was in

a foster home as a small child, then was

adopted by Alistair and Liz Tuach, who she

calls her “earth parents.” It was a loving

home, but at primary school Laura was the

victim of bullying and racist abuse.

She told the reporter, “I’d been wrapped

in cotton wool my whole life until I started

school. Growing up as someone who was

mixed race and quite tall in Dumbarton

was tough.”

On her first day at St Patrick’s Primary

School she was called a racist name and

didn’t know what it meant. “But the energy

that it came from was hate, even at that

young age I knew that.

“The person who was saying it was

angry. At five years old, I went home and

asked my mum what it meant. That was

when my parents explained to me that

I was adopted. I was mixed race.” Laura

added, “I was always a target of bullying.”

In an interview for the podcast Glasgow

Girls’ Club, the psychic said: “Later on, I

did a DNA test and I found I’m 52 per cent

Indian and the other part is Irish.

“All my life I’ve had powerful intuition

and dreams of the Hindu gods; I found out

that’s my biological ancestors’ religion. I’m

vegetarian too, I’ve always had respect for

animals as well as people.”

Reporting on the remarkable way that

Laura has changed her life, the Daily Record

said: “Laura believes that being the victim

of vile attacks has helped make her the

person she is today. She said she is in such

demand that her phone is ringing almost

constantly. Despite the workload and toll it

can take on her, she feels blessed to be able

to help people, often during their darkest

hours.”

“It’s a miracle job I’m doing. I’m

tapping into people’s power and

transforming lives,” she said.

“People come to me at their darkest

hour, and I help them. Two young

men came to me because they were

struggling with a heroin addiction. I got

them off it. These men are now going

into counselling to help others.”

Her skills have also led to her

attracting a number of celebrity

clients, including reality TV stars who

visited her council flat for guidance.

“It’s hilarious,” Laura commented.

“Some people from Love Island came,

they contacted me from Manchester

and said they were driving to see

me, and asked if that was okay.

“Some of the celebrities, especially

footballers, have to come in covering

their identity. It’s cool to have

someone like a soap star in your house,

but I treat everyone as equal.

“When a lot of people come to see me, I

do transformational healings. It’s amazing

the miracles these rituals do.

“Some celebrities say they are

going for cosmetic surgery. They are

on Instagram all the time and have

millions of people watching them;

they ask me why they feel dreadful.

“Afterwards I’m told they’re relieved

they didn’t get surgery, because they

feel great, they just needed to tap

into their divine feminine power.”

“Beyond My Birth: An Empowering & SelfHealing Story and Guide” by Madre Palmistry

is available to read on Amazon Kindle.

LAURA TUACH: “All my life I’ve had powerful

intuition and dreams of the Hindu gods; I found

out that’s my biological ancestors’ religion.”

Comedian has uncanny knack for paranormal investigation

A FORMER stand-up comedian has created a surge of interest

in the field of paranormal investigation. Danny Robins (pictured

above), dubbed the “UK’s go-to ghost guy,” has created three smashhit radio series for the BBC, a West End play, and soon he will be

taking his show on the road and on to our TV screens.

Now, wherever he goes, people want to

tell him their own stories of unexplained

activity. “We all want to know what

happens to us when we die,” he explained.

“It’s the biggest question in the history of

human existence.”

Danny’s most well-known series for

BBC Radio 4 is The Battersea Poltergeist

which re-examined the facts of this famous

case. The story of extreme paranormal

activity started in a South London family

home in 1956 and continued for twelve

years.

The nine-part BBC series created by

Bafflegab Productions included dramatised

segments. Actor Toby Jones (Detectorists)

played Harold Chibbett, the paranormal

investigator and Dafne Keen (His Dark

Materials) was Shirley Hitchings, the

teenager at the centre of the disturbances.

The show added eyewitness

interviews and discussions by experts in

parapsychology. An invitation to listeners

to send in their own theories brought a

huge global response. To date, the show

has attracted over four million downloads,

sparking a bidding war for the TV rights.

The second paranormal cold case, The

Witch Farm, about an apparently haunted

Welsh farmhouse, gained an impressive

following and created intense debate.

For Uncanny, a fifteen-part podcast

available on BBC Sounds, Danny collected

stories of unexplained encounters and

subjected them to the scrutiny of experts

and the audience. The panel included

paranormal psychology specialists Chris

French, Ciaran O’Keefe and Evelyn Hollow.

The format was so popular that it will

return this month. Danny told Psychic

News: “The next series will be a mixture

of brand-new cases and updates on some

of our most intriguing cases from the

first series. We’ll also have a live episode

recorded at UncannyCon, the first ever

Uncanny Fan Convention.”

The show has also been commissioned

for TV. BBC publicity says: “Played almost

five million times on BBC Sounds and

with three million downloads on other

platforms globally, the Uncanny podcast

has proven a hit with both sceptics and

believers alike. Now the TV version is

about to ignite the debate in living rooms

across the land.”

Danny Robins said: “I’ve been blown

away by the response to Uncanny. We’ve

built an incredible community around the

show, many of whom never realised how

interested in the paranormal they were.

“I’m incredibly excited to get the chance

to both continue the podcast and adapt

it for TV, as we explore that biggest of all

questions: ‘Do ghosts exist?’ I promise

it will be scary and fascinating in equal

measure.”

Danny, 47, was born in Newcastle and

grew up in an atheist household. He was

interested in the afterlife from an early age,

but his first stage shows were in comedy,

with friends in the business such as Ross

Noble and Marcus Brigstocke. In 2003 he

performed at the Edinburgh Fringe with

the show Live Ghost Hunt, which was a

spoof of the TV programme Most Haunted,

in which investigators film themselves

looking for paranormal phenomena.

That led him to think about how people

react when someone tells them they have

seen a ghost. He wrote the play 2:22 – A

Ghost Story which features two couples

whose fractious dinner party turns into a

vigil for a ghost which seems to appear at

the same time each morning, at 2.22 am.

The drama premiered in the West End

in 2021 and received a Laurence Olivier

Award nomination for Best New Play the

following year.

Danny had found his niche. When The

Battersea Poltergeist brought a flood of

new paranormal accounts, he knew there

was a need to explore a selection of them.

He said: “Uncanny gives me a chance to

tell these stories and many others I have

received, talking directly to the people who

had the experiences and investigating with

them to see if we can find answers.

“This is the show I have always wanted

to make. It lets me be a supernatural

Sherlock Holmes, trying to solve real-life

paranormal mysteries, and I’ll be wanting

the listeners to be my Dr Watson.”

Psychics predicted talent

show role for Paula Abdul

MULTI award winning singer and choreographer Paula Abdul

(pictured below) has put her name to an online service for those

seeking spiritual advice. Announcing her partnership with Psychics

1 on 1, Paula, 60, talked to the Daily Mail, revealing that psychic

predictions about her career came true.

“I had been told by two different

spiritual advisors that I was going to end

up doing a show,” she said. They predicted

the TV series would be “a global success

around the world.”

Three years later, she started working

as a judge on the singing contest American

Idol. Her appearances ran from 2002 to

2009. One of the readers had correctly

foretold that she would be sitting between

fellow panellists Randy Jackson and

British music industry superstar Simon

Cowell.

Paula said she was told during her

psychic readings the show would turn out

to be a “juggernaut” that would “transcend

generations” of viewers, a forecast that

also came to pass. At its peak in 2006, the

programme attracted 30 million viewers.

The singer also told the Daily Mail that

she had consulted psychics throughout

spiritual guidance and these amazing

people have helped me,” Paula said.

“Sometimes you just need a little

bit of guidance and advice. It’s helped

brand’s goal to offer the services of more

than 3,300 spiritual advisors by messaging,

video call or by phone. She will also share

her positive experiences from personal

readings with some of the platform’s

mediums, healers and astrologers.

She said, “What makes me so excited

about this venture is the fact that I’ve

been helped through spiritual advisors,

incredible psychics who have been spoton, who have helped me navigate my way

throughout my career and my love life.

“I have found spiritual advice

Her talent knows no bounds and her love

for spirituality is completely authentic,

making her a natural fit for Psychics1on1.”

Paula Abdul started dancing as

being terrorised by an unseen stalker

in her Brooklyn apartment and a

policeman said he had encountered a

UFO in the midst of a murder inquiry.

A young nurse told of paranormal

forces that saved a patient, and teenage

hikers recalled spending the night

in an abandoned house with chilling

consequences.

Talking to the Evening Standard’s Tom

Nicholson in 2022, Danny said that all

the stories “occupy a real world with real

people – literally, in Battersea Poltergeist

and Uncanny. And as an audience

member you feel this could be you.”

Asked why the tales are so popular

he replied, “They are detective stories

where one of your suspects might

be a ghost. If you’re a sceptic, it’s a

‘howdunnit’ – was it environmental

factors or psychological factors? If

you’re a believer, it’s a ‘whodunnit’ –

who’s the ghost?

“We need ghosts as a buffer zone

between us and death, this kind of

comfort blanket,” he said. “It’s that

paradox that ghosts are simultaneously

frightening and comforting, because

however scary a story is, if ghosts exist

that means that we might get that

amazing chance to live on.”

Danny is wary of sceptics who flatly

refuse to believe any evidence, and also

those who are quick to claim that the

slightest creak of a floorboard must be

paranormal in origin. He reckons that

neither of these extremes is helpful.

“I’m interested in what ghosts are

– whether they are the product of our

human minds, our environment, or

actually something otherworldly – the

dead rising again, or some type of energy

we don’t yet understand,” he said.

“If my research has taught me

anything, it’s that there’s a surprising

amount of people out there who don’t

really believe in ghosts but do believe

they have seen one. Those are the

stories that set my pulse racing.”

“I’m a sceptic who wants to believe,”

Danny added. “I would love it to be real,

but at the same time I feel a strong sense

of ‘be careful what you wish for’, because

when I hear some of these stories

and see the impact on people…I am a

coward.”

The new twelve-part series of

Uncanny begins on BBC Radio 4 on

April 5, and will also be available via

the internet on BBC Sounds. A live tour

is being put together, with venues and

dates to be announced soon.

“Magical” musician’s new album

was inspired by Spiritualist retreat

SAN FRANCISO-based musician Jill Tracy has produced a new

album that represents a “sonic souvenir” of her time spent on

retreat at a Spiritualist community.

Ms Tracy stayed at the award-winning

Lily Dale Historic District in Western New

York, which was featured in the March

edition of Psychic News. She said she was

“blown away” by the graciousness and

interest shown to her by the community

that includes hundreds of Spiritualists and

dozens of mediums.

Liz Ohanesian wrote in the Orange

County Register, “Ms Tracy was invited to

Lily Dale for a residency; she made several

trips between 2017 and 2019, the results

of which comprise her new album and

book, The Secret Music of Lily Dale.

“The seventeen-track album focuses

on piano music Ms Tracy spontaneously

composed while playing in Lily Dale’s

nineteenth century auditorium; the music

later augmented by field recordings she

made during her stay. The accompanying

book documents her stay and includes her

own photography from the trip.”

“I just wanted people to know about

this magical place that exists. I decided

that it had to be part of the product,” said

Ms Tracy. “It couldn’t just be that I post

some things on Instagram about it.”

On jilltracy.com it says, “As a youngster,

Jill Tracy was drawn to classic suspense,

film noir and horror movie scores,

which she cites today as some of her

strongest influences. These passions

are evident in her unusual piano style.

Self-taught, her singular blend of

mystical flourishes, hypnotic grooves and

dark-alley classical conjures up chiaroscuro

shades of another era, but at the same

time, the sound is shockingly new.”

She likens music to a ghost “because

once it is played, it disappears

into thin air. It vanishes.”

Ms Tracy uses music to connect with

the histories of unusual places. She said

this work explores “what happens when

I immerse myself into the location and

tap into that energy and just record

spontaneous music with no preparation,

so that I’m just tuned-in to that moment

in time.” She records what she calls

a “sonic souvenir” of the location.

She also hosts “sonic séance” events,

where she creates music with the

audience that exists for one night

only, in venues that have ranged

from old mansions to outdoors

amongst mighty redwood trees.

Lily Dale is a select community of 275

residents who all follow a Spiritualist

path. There are summer tourists, but Ms

Tracy visited during the closed season

and was instructed to travel alone,

so she took only her laptop and three

microphones to make the recordings.

In Lily Dale, the musician would set up

her equipment in the auditorium at dusk

and play the piano, sometimes until the

early morning. She also explored the town

and countryside around the community,

recording the sounds of nature. “It’s so

important to have that element of marvel

and wonder in our lives,” she said.

According to her website, Ms Tracy’s

music aims to “transport you into a

seductive and magical realm far beyond

the Everyday. The place where we wished

we lived. A dark, elegant netherworld

full of hidden passageways, wonder

cabinets and shadows. Of monsters,

marvels and mystery. You know it’s not

safe here; but with Jill Tracy as your

guide, you’ll be in no hurry to leave.”

Announcing the new album, the website

says: “The Secret Music of Lily Dale is a

sonic excavation of mysterious Lily Dale,

the famed private town of mediums and

Spiritualists in upstate New York.

“She recorded on an antique grand

piano alone at night inside the 1883

auditorium, site of séances and spirit

communication services for over a century.

“She captured field recordings, from the

mystical Leolyn Woods to chilling nighttime rainstorms, to create a never-beforeheard aural journey into this strange little

town that talks to the dead.”

Ms Tracy explained: “I’m fascinated

with the energy and impressions that

remain within environments, buildings

and objects — and their amassed emotional

history.

“For me, uncovering hidden

compositions inside these spaces is the

closest thing to time travel or channelling.

A bridge between this world, and what lies

beyond human comprehension.

“My work honours the mystery.”

How to choose a medium

– and not get hooked

AN astrologer and spirituality expert has given advice on how to

choose a good medium, and how to avoid becoming addicted to

seeking guidance.

In January, Prince Harry caused a stir

by revealing in his memoir Spare that he

had consulted a “woman with powers.” His

visit to a psychic is not unusual: in the UK,

a 2011 poll from YouGov found a quarter

of British people have done the same, and

well over half of these people believed in

the results.

Bestselling author, spirituality expert

and regular on ITV’s This Morning, Theresa

Cheung (pictured above) agrees. She

told OK! Magazine: “Visiting a medium

can comfort those who are grieving,

when traditional grief counselling just

doesn’t resonate. The psychic helps them

cultivate a relationship that transcends

death, offers them hope that death isn’t

the end and helps them explore the

mystery of human consciousness.”

She gave examples of people who told

her how they had been helped by hearing

messages from loved ones who had

passed, especially when they were given

details that nobody else could have known.

Such evidence can help the bereaved

to find the strength to move through their

grief, but Theresa warned that there’s

a danger of becoming addicted to the

reassurance a visit to a medium can bring.

She cautioned: “The genuine ones won’t

encourage repeat visits. Only a potential

fraudster will do this. It’s a major red flag.”

A good medium will offer one

reading, said the expert. “If no proof or

healing comes through in that session,

they’ll be honest, and ideally refund

you if you’ve already paid them.”

Theresa explained the difference

between a psychic and a medium: “The

former can sense invisible things about

a person. Mediums are communicating

with spirit beings; they are always psychic

– but not all psychics are mediums.”

She gave the following checklist

for anyone considering using the

services of a psychic or medium:

• Avoid going in the first year

following the loss of a loved one

– you need time to adjust.

• Look for credentials and a code of

ethics. Ideally choose a certified

medium with training from a

recognised teacher or institution.

• Do not be drawn in by celebrity

endorsement, or if the person

has a cult-like following.

• Be wary if they encourage repeat visits,

unless they are teaching you a specific

spiritual technique, such as meditation.

• Check their fee, which Theresa

suggests should be no higher than

the price of a good haircut.

• Avoid anyone with a lot of marketing.

This is more about creating a celebrity

rather than helping people.

• Do not accept being told what to

do or believe; most psychics are not

trained counsellors or therapists.

• You should feel empowered and

uplifted, not nervous or inferior.

A psychic ought to have a joyful,

optimistic energy about them.

• Avoid if they will only conduct inperson readings. However, psychic

phone lines may simply be moneymaking if they seem to keep you

talking as long as possible.

• Do not allow yourself to be bombarded

with advertising and be wary if asked

for your credit card before a reading.

• Watch for leading questions.

Do not give too much away;

stick to yes or no answers.

• Avoid if they appear to have done

research on you before a reading.

Be aware of what is publicly

available on your social media.

Theresea Cheung has written several books,

covering a variety of mystical topics.

Her new title is “Empower Your Inner

Psychic” (Harper Thorsons, £14.99).

A PSYCHIC “can sense invisible things about a person. Mediums are communicating with spirit beings;

they are always psychic – but not all psychics are mediums.”

Uri Geller lifts ban and apologises to Pokémon fans

TRADING card fans around the world are cheering the return of a

cartoon character that has been at the centre of a legal battle for more

than twenty years. The celebration was made possible when world

famous mentalist Uri Geller backed down from his claim that the magical

Pokémon creature named Kadabra was an offensive caricature of him.

Pokémon – short for pocket monsters

– was devised in 1996 by a Japanese video

game designer and launched on the market

by Nintendo Co Ltd. The characters are

taken on adventures by players and get

into battles.

Each monster has specific strengths and

weaknesses. Players, acting as trainers,

aim to become the best. The theme song

and slogan “Gotta catch ‘em all” were

composed to encourage an ambition of

acquiring as many creatures as possible.

The trading card games soon followed,

and in the English sets there are now over

9,000 variations. Collectors will pay huge

sums for rare, early examples: the record

being around £5 million for one card.

New creatures were created over the

years, each with their own attributes;

some appear to be based on real people.

On a trip to Tokyo in 2000, Uri Geller

found himself surrounded by children who

recognised him as the inspiration for the

character named Kadabra, featured in a

newly released set of cards. In Japan, the

magical creature’s name is Yungeller; it is

depicted clutching a spoon.

Uri was outraged by the apparent

infringement of his rights and took

immediate legal action. The production of

the Kadabra cards came to a halt.

The BBC reported that Uri said:

“Nintendo turned me into an evil, occult

Pokémon character. They stole my identity

by using my name and my signature image.”

Uri Geller is famed for his ability

to bend spoons with his mind. The Israeliborn psychic came to prominence in

the 1970s when he demonstrated the

phenomenon on primetime TV. He now has

a museum in Tel Aviv that charts his career

and displays a collection of objects bent

with his mind-power.

Although the original lawsuit was

dismissed, Uri has continued to put

pressure on Nintendo with continued

threats of legal action. Now he has had a

change of heart over his objection to the

Kadabra card.

Speaking to PokéBeach, a website

dedicated to fans of the genre, Uri said:

“I’m pleased Pokémon fans are excited

to see Kadabra return to the card game.

I want to thank the Pokémon fans who

reached out to me over the years, including

the ones from PokéBeach, who kept

contacting me.

“It was you and my granddaughters that

got me to change my mind. Now we can

all see Kadabra reunited with the original

Pokémon this summer.

“I admit, totally open and honest, I was a

fool. It was a devastating mistake for me to

sue Pokémon. Kadabra was basically a tribute

to Uri Geller. But it’s back now. Forgive me. I

love you all. Much love and energy.”

The new card set featuring Kadabra

(similar to the fan art below) is expected to

be released in June.

Spiritual teacher runs for US Presidency

AN AMERICAN author, spiritual leader and political activist has become

the first major Democrat to declare herself in the running for the 2024

US Presidency. Marianne Williamson is challenging Joe Biden for the

position of the world’s most powerful political leader.

Ms Williamson, 70, is an ardent

promoter of the self-help book A Course in

Miracles, which was dictated psychically to

Helen Schucman in 1976.

She is also a bestselling

author and spiritual

teacher in her own right.

On her website she

announced: “We are not

living in easy times, but the

times will change when we

are willing to change them.

“I feel my forty years

being up close and

personal with the trauma

of so many thousands

of individuals gives me

a unique perspective

on what is needed to

help repair America… It’s time for a new

beginning, and this will only happen if

we’re willing to look at the world in a

different way.”

Claiming that she is “best qualified

to disrupt” the present system of

government, Ms Williamson acknowledged

that people might not take

her seriously, but said, “I’m

not putting myself through

this again just to add to the

conversation.”

She is seen as “the

longest of long shots,” as

Democrats appear to be

firm in their support of

President Biden to win

another term in office.

In 1992, Marianne

Williamson was a guest on

the Oprah Winfrey Show.

She told the iconic

chat show host about her

book, A Return to Love, which went on to

sell 1.5 million copies in America. In it, Ms

Williamson wrote that “our deepest fear is

not that we are inadequate; it’s that we are

powerful beyond measure.” Oprah declared

it to be one of her favourite quotes.

The author has since made several

appearances on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday

segments on the Oprah Winfrey Network

and has been referred to as the host’s

spiritual friend and counsellor.

In politics, one of Ms Williamson’s

signature proposals is a plan to create

a US Department of Peace. She also

campaigned for the government to

pay massive financial reparations to

descendants of American slaves.

Her policies for “moral repair” include

increased welfare, a reversal of climate

change and a health system that would

challenge the causes of illness, including

industrial toxins and poor diet.

Her 2014 attempt to gain office as an

independent candidate to fill a seat in

California’s 33rd Congressional District

failed, despite large financial and celebrity

backing. In 2020 she abandoned her own

presidential campaign and supported

Bernie Saunders, who lost out to Joe Biden

in the nominations for the Democrats’

presidential candidate.

Star Trek’s Mr Sulu shares stories

of paranormal encounters

GEORGE TAKEI is a social justice activist, social media star and

bestselling author. However, he will forever be best known as Mr

Sulu, helm officer on the spaceship USS Enterprise in the original

hit sci-fi series Star Trek.

Always interested in stories of the

unexplained, the actor hosted a series

titled True Terror in 2019. Recently, he

shared on his website a social media

thread from the platform Reddit, in which

a user had asked for first-hand ghost

stories from people who had been with

those at the end of their earthly life.

One person commented that in hospice

and long-term care, staff often mention

glimpsing “the man in the corner,” a figure

seen near the bedside when someone is

close to passing.

A user named justhappy2bhereig had

a similar story to tell. They said on the day

their grandfather passed, “He looked at

my mother and said, ‘the angel is back.’ My

mother was stunned. She asked what he

meant, and he said ‘the angel is back, and

this time he wants me to come with him.’

“My mother looked at the corner of the

room where he was gazing, turned back to

him, and said ‘Dad, there’s nobody there.’

He didn’t respond. He died that night.”

The writer said they also lost their sister

at the age of seven. “On the days leading

up to her death, she kept speaking about

this butterfly who would visit her. We just

thought she’d developed this imaginary

friend to help her through what she was

struggling with.

“One day, she told us ‘the butterfly is

back, and he wants me to follow him.’

“I saw my mother’s face drop. She’d

made the decision not to tell my sister she

was dying. But my sister said, in the next

second, ‘I’m going to die, aren’t I? That’s

what the butterfly said. He told me I’m

going to die.’”

Her mother admitted the truth to the

little girl, who passed peacefully.

In another story, a user said he worked

in a hospital. One day he was walking

through an area of the mortuary. He said,

“I almost had a heart attack as I turned the

corner and there was this guy standing

there examining files in the filing cabinet.”

“He looked just like you or me. Dressed

modernly, but out of place for what people

normally wear back there.” He spoke to the

man but had no reply.

“I should mention this was about 1am,

and I’d never seen anyone at the place this

late. So I said, ‘Well, sorry if I startled you.’”

The hospital worker carried on with his

job, assuming the man hadn’t heard him. “I

went to the bathroom, and came back and

the guy was gone, but the filing cabinet

was still open,” he continued.

“I didn’t know where he went, and

I hadn’t heard anyone walk down the

hallway past the bathroom.

“I checked and made sure everything I

was responsible for was still locked, and it

was. So I just announced that I was going to

be leaving and locking up to set the alarm.”

Again there was no answer, so he left.

“I’m not sure who he was, or is, or

what happened. But it was definitely an

odd experience and one I still remember

perfectly.”

On the thread, a user calling themself

addictedpunk wrote: “I used to be a

security guard at a hospital. One night,

while doing my rounds, I went into the

surgery wing and was walking down a

hallway when I saw a doctor looking at

the whiteboard where all the scheduled

surgeries are written. I said ‘Hello doctor’

and kept going.”

He received no reply.

“When I got back to the security office,

I was telling one of the guys that’s been

there for years about how I greeted this

doctor, and he didn’t say anything back. I

was asked where I saw him and I said ‘The

surgery ward,’ and he gave me a smirk.

“He explained that the surgery ward

closes at 9pm and all patients are moved

into the monitoring wards; there should be

no one there.

“He then asked me if this doctor was

studying the schedule board. I said yes. He

told me that I just met Dr Luisitti.”

Staff believe the silent figure to be the

spirit of a former surgeon, who tragically

took his own life at the hospital.

STREAMING platform Netflix

has paired up with a Londonbased paranormal investigation

team to offer their services for

free. A select number of alleged

hauntings will be checked

by Spectrum Paranormal

Investigations Ltd of Camden

Town.

The announcement coincided with the

launching of the new series Lockwood & Co.

The show is the latest in what Netflix calls

its “supernatural soaps.”

The offer accompanied news that

research showed one in five British people

claim their home has spiritual activity, with

London considered to be the most haunted

city, followed by Glasgow, Liverpool,

Birmingham and Nottingham.

Dean Williams from Spectrum

Paranormal Investigations said: “Lockwood

& Co tells the story of young people

fighting off ghosts in an imaginary

version of London, but we know – and the

research from Netflix has shown – that

sensing spirits is a very real and everyday

occurrence for Brits.

“So, we’re bringing the Lockwood & Co

experience into real life and offering a few

lucky households the chance to experience

an investigation for themselves and learn

the techniques from the show and more.”

Dean added that “As one of the UK’s

leading research teams with over twenty

‘hard evidence’ approach to paranormal

phenomena, using traditional methods

mixed with cutting-edge technology to

identify and communicate with spirits. As

well as offering you expert advice on how

to deal with hauntings in your home.”

Team member Hazel Williams told

the Guardian in 2022, that interest in the

paranormal has been growing, partly due

to the increased use of technology, and

people posting their own content on social

media.

“I’ve never known a time when there’s

been this abundance of paranormal

content everywhere,” she said.

Home security cameras and baby

monitoring, along with the proliferation

of camera phones has given rise to a boom

in footage, but Hazel insisted that most

phenomena can be easily explained. “It’s

actually quite normal for cameras to pick

up dust particles,” she said, “which can look

like glowing orbs on recordings.

“Because of the way the media portrays

orbs on TV as spirit energies and ghosts,

people tend to jump the gun.”

In 2021, the team were called in to the

Fox and Pheasant pub in Chelsea, owned

by the top singer-songwriter James Blunt.

He was convinced the Victorian local

was haunted by a former customer, who

knocked over items including a specific

tankard. The staff were reportedly “totally

freaked out” by the events.

James took to Instagram to share

security camera footage of a beer glass

inexplicably falling from a shelf behind the

bar. The clip shows the pint glass being

caught by a stunned barman. A colleague is

seen looking up at the shelf with wide eyes,

unable to fathom how the glass fell.

“Spooky goings on down the F&P…looks

like we had a ghost lurking behind the bar

yesterday,” James wrote in the caption. The

investigation team were called upon to try

to calm the situation.

If any readers feel they have

unexplained activity in their home, they

can apply to have it checked by Spectrum

Paranormal Investigations (SPI).

Their website says: “We are looking for

genuine cases substantiated by supporting

video, photographic or audio evidence

to help build a picture of the paranormal

activity in your home. If you don’t have

any media to support your account, please

submit a diary-like log of the phenomena

along with times, dates and locations in

which it took place, in as much detail as

possible.

“All cases will be considered and vetted

based on the information provided, with

the team electing to take on cases that

meet the SPI criteria and warrant further

investigation. Terms and conditions apply.”

16 PSYCHIC NEWS | APRIL 2023

When a successful estate agent altered course to become a hands-on healer, he

couldn’t have known that his work would come full circle. The revelation that some

homes were “Divorce Houses” – places where happy couples would move in and then

split up soon after – led Adrian Incledon-Webber to look for the cause. He discovered

the amazing world of earth energies, elementals and the emotional remnants left by

predecessors that can affect current residents.

Now recognised as one of the world’s most experienced geomancers, Adrian works

with home and business owners to clear their properties of unwanted spirits and

energies, bringing balance and harmony to the occupants. He runs courses on the

subject and has produced three books to help others heal their homes.

“Psychic News’” Chief Reporter Ann Green talked to Adrian about his awakening

to the spirit world and his life-changing decision to work with those beings he terms

as “Upstairs.” Ann started by asking Adrian about his early life.

MY father was in the Royal Air Force, so

we moved a lot, we lived in West Suffolk

for a few years then when Dad changed

to flying civil aircraft we moved down to

Sussex.

The first job I had was working in Bond

Street, London, for an antique dealer. I then

thought estate agency work looked easy

and there would be a company car, but

when I made the switch, I found I’d never

worked so hard in my life.

With a business partner I set up my own

estate agency; over 25 years we grew to

having six offices in West Surrey. We were

perhaps unusual in the aftercare of our

clients, a bit like agony aunts. I’ve taken

that aspect with me through my healing

work.

Were any of your family interested in

spirituality?

Mum was quite a psychic lady, her

mother was very much that way too,

although I never met her, she passed quite

young. If Dad had a problem when he

was flying an aircraft, she always knew

intuitively.

I had an invisible friend called Bankinks

and Mum was very understanding, she

would even lay a place for him at the

table, even though she assumed he was

imaginary.

Of course, school and adult life takes all

that out of you. Only in recent years did I

reconnect with Bankinks, it turned out that

he was and still is my guardian, or my soul

brother as I call him.

You were living the sort of life many aspire to

– a large house, luxury cars, foreign holidays

– what made you give it all up?

In 1988 a change in the mortgage

market gave us major problems in the

estate agency business and I needed

guidance. A friend suggested I go to see

John Benedict; I didn’t realise he was

probably one of the best palmists in the

world.

He gave me the confidence to keep

going. He also said I had two big protection

triangles showing in my hands. I believed

him, because he told me some personal

details that were spot on, about a

traumatic time in my early life.

Eventually my business partner and I

wanted to go in different directions. I went

to see Andy Roberts, a reiki master, for

treatment. He said, “You’ll be doing this

soon.”

The palmist had said I would become

a healer too – but nobody could specify

when. I trained rapidly with Andy and soon

became a hands-on healer.

Giving up the trappings of wealth and

security, you became a very different person.

How did that affect your relationships?

All my friends and acquaintances knew

me as a businessman. The change I went

through was mind-boggling for me, but

others couldn’t understand. Most of the

people in the estate agency world thought

I was having a break down, but I knew it

was what I had to do. I had to let so much

go.

Sadly, the partner I was living with

was one of those who couldn’t adapt, and

we split up. At first my sons Alistair and

Charles were pretty embarrassed by the

“new me” but they are fine with it now.

Tell me about the “Divorce House” revelation.

I was doing a lot of hands-on healing

with people, including aristocrats, film

stars and top business people. I suddenly

realised that it didn’t matter how much

healing I was bringing, if they were

going back to a place where there were

detrimental influences, they weren’t

going to improve permanently. When I

understood this, it felt as if those in the

spirit world were applauding, saying, “At

last, he’s got it.”

I started working on friends’ and

family’s houses, and they reported an

enormous difference. I had noticed that

over the 25 years of estate agency work,

there was one house in particular that

came on the market regularly. A happy

couple would move in, then three years

later I’d get a call to say they were getting

divorced and putting the house back on the

market.

Once I realised what was going on, I

contacted the people who were then in the

house and did healing on it. They’re still

there, over twenty years later.

We’d also had properties where

successive occupants had alcohol issues or

mental health problems. I realised I had to

start healing houses from geopathic stress

and other influences. That was about

sixteen years ago.

Is this more than the normal ambience of a

house, which so many people say influences

their decision when buying a property? Can

you explain what geopathic stress means?

As an estate agent, I’d get people saying

a house ticked every box on their wish list

but “something didn’t feel right.” I now

know that’s down to the energy patterns in

the land or the fabric of the building. If you

get them right, it gives you a better chance

of selling.

Geopathic stress literally means

sickness coming from the Earth. That’s

energy lines, ley lines and underground

water, but I’ve always asked what else

there might be.

In my full surveys I now ask 55

questions of my guides, including checks

for emotional energy left by human

traumas.

No matter how old or new a house is,

there will be residual energy from builders,

tradespeople, visitors and families that

have lived there over the years. The land

itself may contain remnants from the past.

Some of it does dissipate over time,

but some can persist for centuries. There

is new input from technology such as the

mobile phone network and the internet.

About a third of people in the world

are not in the least sensitive to all this and

won’t be affected by it. Another third may

feel some slight sensitivity, but the rest

could be quite strongly influenced. They

might feel headaches, mood swings and

even be susceptible to illness if they remain

in a place that is detrimental for them. It’s

about the individual’s vibrational energy.

You heal houses globally – do you have to

visit them in person?

No, I work from my home in Yorkshire

mostly. I always make sure I have my

psychic protection in place before I start.

Using a floorplan, I first check for spirits

that need to be moved on, because if you

start changing energy fields they will

notice, and they may become unsettled.

House healers need to be able to do soul

rescue, to move on any spirit being that

needs help to progress to the light.

I then check the family for any

attachments, perhaps from past trauma

or people they’ve associated with. Those

who deal closely with the public, such as

hairdressers, can have attachments, like

blobs of emotional energy, clinging to them

from their clients.

I go through my list and when I find

issues, I ask those Upstairs to clear them

with light and love. I also teach my clients

how to avoid getting new attachments by

protecting themselves.

Who are you addressing when you say

“Upstairs?” What do you believe exists in the

other realms?

It’s the “Powers That Be.” I see it as a

universal library that we can all tap into. I

can get messages psychically these days,

but initially I employed dowsing rods or a

pendulum. I don’t use the term God, but

there has to be somebody there to allow

me to do what I’m doing. I’m not powerful

enough to do it by myself.

Years ago, I didn’t believe in any

otherworldly beings, so I started from

basics and asked through dowsing, “Do

archangels exist?” The answer was a

definite yes and I trusted it. I found the

same for chakras, healing crystals and the

existence of elemental spirits of nature. I

got to know my spirit guides too.

I totally believe our planet is alive, and

there is a power in the universe. When I do

my healing work, I connect with Upstairs

but I also connect to the energy of Mother

Earth, the Moon and the Sun.

Who are your clients nowadays?

I get many calls from people who are

having a problem selling their house or just

feeling very unsettled or unhappy, and I

can adjust the energies to help. I tend to

work for a lot of mums who are concerned

about their family.

Teenagers can attract negative energies

as we know from stories of poltergeist

activity, but things like violent video games

can leave their impression. We open a

psychic portal when we watch emotive

films or play those games.

Sometimes a wife might not want her

husband to know that I’m doing healing

on their house and family, on the dog, cat

and the kids, but he’ll notice the change as

things become calmer.

Your books contain a comprehensive guide to

healing our houses, but can you give us a few

simple tips?

Protection is essential. You can place

an imaginary bubble of white light around

you before doing any work. You can use a

pendulum or dowsing rods and once you

have established the reactions for “yes”

and “no” you can get answers to simple

questions.

If you do find an energy that you want

to clear, then either in your head or out

loud, ask the Powers that Be to flood that

site with light and love, to take away as

much of the detrimental energy as they

can. Then they will disperse it safely into

the universe.

Ask them to leave the area in peace,

balance, and harmony for all the people

that it affects. Afterwards, ask that your

energies return to normal levels, closing

all doorways/portals that you may have

opened. Always thank the spirits for their

assistance.

What advice would you give to anyone

moving into a new home?

When I bought my current house, I

came in and introduced myself. I asked that

the energies be balanced, that I accept

them and they accept me. Some people

suggest clapping their hands to clear

energy or using crystals or burning a sage

stick – it’s all down to intent. Whatever you

use, if your intent is to clear the house, it

will work.

As a general rule, try to clear any

energies that might be left by visitors to

the house, and also try to keep your own

energy positive. We all have disagreements,

and some might leave simmering resentments.

Hug, forgive, and ask for help from your

spirit guides and guardians.

Finally, do you think that people are

becoming more or less attuned to the spirit

world and its energies?

I think there’s a lot more people who

are spiritually aware, although during

lockdown some progress stalled. I’m sure

the veils between our worlds are thinning,

there is more power available. Healing is

speeding up: I can now do in minutes the

things that took me hours before.

The techniques in my book give

everyone the chance to develop their gifts

and bring peace and health to their own

families and those of others.

Never before has our care for the trees of this planet, and our

relationship with them, been more important. Long before any climate

emergency, our ancestors understood the vital role that trees and other

plants play in the health of natural life, including human society. The

characteristics of each kind of tree were embodied in symbols that in

turn became a language, described here by author and herbalist Jo

Dunbar and Druid celebrant Adrian Rooke.

THE Celtic Ogham is superficially similar

to, but far lesser known than, the Nordic

Runes, and is an ancient collection of

symbols dating from around 2,000 years

ago. Because of the nature of the straight

and diagonal slash lines associated with the

Ogham, it has been suggested that it might

have been both a verbal and a written

language, or even a secret sign language to

be used with the fingers and the hands.

There are those who believe that the

Druids might have used these hand signals

as a secret method of communication

between themselves while in the presence

of kings and lords.

However, Ogham has also been

inscribed on stones for more practical

reasons, such as for boundary markers or

graves. There are ancient examples carved

onto standing stones in Devon, Cornwall,

Wales, the Isle of Man, Scotland and

Shetland, with the richest source of such

ancient inscriptions found in Ireland.

Our current understanding is that

the names of the twenty main letters

correspond with the symbolic meanings

of the twenty trees most sacred to the

Druids.

Each tree has a specific meaning and so,

by default, does the Ogham glyph.

Sometimes called the Celtic tree

alphabet, people do still write messages to

each other in Ogham, although today it is

mainly used as a method of divination, for

tapping into the guidance and wisdom of

the tree kingdom, or to wear as a talisman.

In today’s world, the Druids’ perspective

is fundamentally connected to nature,

believing that all sentient beings have

intelligence. Thus, each tree has different

qualities and gifts to offer us if we are

prepared to slow down, ask, and take the

time to listen.

On the other hand, clearly, many people

have anthropomorphised certain trees to

have associated qualities. For instance,

who doesn’t see the Oak as a symbol of

strength or associate the Willow with

romance?

In the Druid community, different

trees are honoured, visited and their

wood worn as talismans to enable us to

navigate the usual challenges of life. As an

example, Silver Birch is first in the Ogham

tree calendar, and seen as a pioneer tree

because it is known to be the first tree to

colonise the Earth after the glaciers had

cleared the ground of natural growth. So,

it is easy to see why it represents a new

beginning.

The twigs are also traditionally used as

a besom, both symbolically and in practice,

sweeping out the old and making space for

new beginnings.

Blackthorn, whose Celtic name is Straif

(from which our modern word “strife”

is derived), is a fiercely prickly tree with

a ferocious poison. It is an immensely

powerful tree, so if you believe that an

unavoidable strife is coming your way,

you can take refuge in the Blackthorn tree

energy.

In the past, Blackthorn blasting wands

have been used to attack or counterattack, but today its energy is favoured as

a very powerful protecting force.

Certain trees are associated with

different times of the year and specific

Celtic festivals, probably the most famous

pairing being Hawthorn and Beltane,

the Celtic ceremony of love and fertility

celebrated in early May. Hawthorn itself is

often called May, or Bride, both of which

reflect the festival of Beltane. It is a tree of

the heart.

The most famous tree of the Druids

– although it is actually a bush that lives

high up in a tree – is the Mistletoe, and it

is the most highly venerated of them all.

The pale luminescent berries ripen at the

Winter Solstice, their colour and sticky

consistency earning them the name “sperm

of the gods!”

When the Mistletoe is ritualistically cut

from the tree bower, a Druid is careful to

catch it so that it doesn’t touch the ground.

Later, in a Winter Solstice ritual, the

sperm of the gods is reverentially brought

down to touch the Earth, the Goddess, and

thus the sacred conception occurs and the

Sun God is reborn on Solstice day.

Mistletoe is said to be so sacred that it

doesn’t have an Ogham glyph. It has only

one day of the year as its own, although the

Winter Solstice is and certainly has always

been the most sacred day of the year.

Today, many Druids and Pagan folk

choose to wear the Oghams as talismans

to help us through challenging times, for

divination, or simply to keep a physical

connection with the tree and the natural

world on our person at all times.

These are some other major trees

associated with the Ogham, along with

their Celtic names and the energies

associated with each one. This can only

be a very brief introduction to them, and

there are many books available with more

in-depth descriptions.

But perhaps the best way of all to get to

know the Ogham is to spend time with one

or two trees that we feel “call” to us.

Birch (Beith)

Sweep away the old and allow space for a

fresh new start.

Rowan (Luis)

The tree of the faery race. It is protective

and offers a psychic doorway to the Other

World.

Alder (Fearn)

It balances the masculine and feminine

within us, giving strength to do the

right thing. A shield and protection,

it encourages inner confidence and

endurance.

Ash (Nuinn)

This tree is like a spirit horse, carrying

us between the worlds, connecting us to

the Upper Worlds and the Under Worlds,

and linking past, present and future. It

embodies the universal understanding of

“as above, so below.”

Willow (Saille)

The Willow has always been associated

with water and creativity, perhaps also

tears and sorrow. Yet it allows us to let

go, to go with the flow, whilst inspiring

imagination, creativity and intuition.

Hawthorn (Huathe)

This is the tree of the heart, of love on all

levels, and of the union of the God and

the Goddess, of man and woman. It is

protective and another faery tree.

Oak (Duir)

Forever representing strength, stability,

security and endurance, Oak also offers

a doorway to another level of being,

deepening our spiritual wisdom.

Holly (Tinne)

Here we feel the light in the dark of winter,

giving protection and a willingness to fight

for what is right. It helps us take personal

responsibility for our actions and restore

direction in our lives.

Ivy (Gort)

See how Ivy grows, turning this way and

that as it climbs. It supports us in emerging

from the suppressive darkness of the

metaphorical forest in search of the light.

We are encouraged to shine our light out

into the world and fully express who we

are, unwinding those restrictive bonds.

Blackthorn (Straif)

Sometimes we face an unavoidable

fate and feel we cannot escape these

harsh times, but Blackthorn forms an

impenetrable hedge, protecting us from

the worst.

Elder (Ruis)

Associated with the Cailleach, the wise

woman who knows everything, Elder is

associated with the wheel of time, with

death and renewal.

Fir or Pine (Ailm)

This tree stands for clarity and purity,

allowing us to rise high above the

landscape of our lives and see the full

perspective.

Poplar, Aspen (Eadha)

This is the whispering tree, facilitating our

ability to hear the inner voice and take

note of the subtle messages in our lives.

Yew (Ioho)

The Yew is commonly associated with death

and the ancestors, therefore often found in

graveyards. But our ancestors are not dead,

they are just in another dimension, and this

tree is a portal that allows us to access that

ancestral world. It is a doorway to connect

with the deep past and to learn from those

who have gone before.

Most Pagans, and even those who do

not call themselves Druids or Pagans,

feel that they have a deep relationship

with trees. Of course, we have no idea

how trees feel about us, yet we can often

sense a welcome, a curiosity or a “go away”

feeling emanating from a tree! We need to

get to know them better.

For instance, we may walk past a very

beautiful Oak and admire its outline,

wonder at its age and what it might have

witnessed. Then we may find out that its

botanical name is Quercus Robur, and its

bark has been used for millennia as an

astringent because it is rich in tannins and

is thus helpful for diarrhoea, haemorrhoids

and sore throats.

It is also home to lichens called Usnea,

which are powerful antibacterial agents

used to treat respiratory tract infections

and to expectorate sticky phlegm.

The inner wood of the Oak has even

been discovered to help with chronic

fatigue syndrome. With this information,

our respect for the venerable tree deepens.

The Druids used Oak as a temple in

their groves, its Celtic name being Duir,

meaning a doorway into another realm of

life.

One interpretation of this could be that

meditation on the Oak can open our

consciousness to the wisdom of a tree that

has long been associated with understanding,

good judgment, steadfastness and strength.

We may perceive a psychic doorway

that opens us to a more spiritual aspect of

ourselves and a new understanding and

wisdom derived from the higher plane of

tree consciousness.

If we wish to have a closer relationship

P:21

with certain trees, we should approach

them as beings of wisdom and power, with

a lifespan greatly exceeding our own and

thus with an oversight more far-reaching

than ours.

First, we must try to quieten the mind

and connect with the slow and deep

rhythm of the tree. For a while, we just

forget our problems or questions, and

simply “be with the tree” in reverence for

its own life and for its own tribe of treebeings.

Simply by doing this, our human lives

will probably easily fall into a better

rhythm, but we can also enter into a

meditation with the tree and ask for its

guidance or protection.

Adrian Rooke is a modern-day Druid

who describes the profound relationship

he had with Hawthorn trees as a small

child.

“I did not come easily to this human

experience,” he says, “struggling with

health issues and a sense of being

disconnected from my peers. So, I was

bullied by older boys and, as a result,

sought solace in a small valley full of trees

and a stream called the Malago.

“This was an oasis within the expanding

human encroachment surrounding Bristol.

I felt a peace and a joy in those wooded

slopes that I could never find in everyday

life, and remember many happy hours

catching sticklebacks, chasing butterflies

and becoming aware of the ‘tree beings’

that lived in the woods, some of which

became my friends.

“In particular there was an old

Hawthorn tree that had grown into a

strange bell shape with a hollowed-out

interior.

“When I discovered a small gap,

big enough for a small boy to crawl

through, this became a sanctuary where

all the problems of the outside world

disappeared. The Hawthorn became my

go-to place where I would lie with my ear

to the ground, listening to the heartbeat of

Mother Earth.

“Little did I know then that many years

and many adventures later I would suffer

from chronic heart failure, with a very

slight chance of survival. Yet I’m sure that

the Hawthorn herb medicine I take daily

has helped to reconstruct and strengthen

my damaged heart, so I continue to live a

very full life whilst amazing my doctors.

“I remain forever grateful for all the

blessings that Hawthorn has bestowed on

me from childhood until today.”

Once we have found a special

connection with a certain tree, like Adrian,

we can deepen that relationship by

wearing a talisman carved with its Ogham

glyph so that we always feel its guidance

and protection. Adrian has himself been

carving Ogham talismans for many years.

Each stave is harvested with reverence

from the tree and, if possible, from sacred

sites such as holy wells, burial mounds or

stone circles.

He believes that each talisman holds

the energy of the dryad (spirit) of the tree

within it, and describes feeling a profound

sense of peace and connection with each

tree that he carves. Indeed, they are much

valued by those who know about them and

are worn by people around the world.

We all have so much to learn from the

trees around us every day and the Ogham

is the language that we can use to connect

with them.

A CLINICAL hypnotherapist from Gloucester has helped

paranormal investigators explore a haunted former church.

Paul Goddard, 41, was enlisted by the

team behind the TV series Help! My House

Is Haunted to transport presenter Barry

Ghai back to 1825 on location. It was

hoped he could engage with spirit beings

from the early days of the church, which

was constructed in that year.

The converted Methodist chapel at

Lower Broadheath, Worcestershire has

been the site of paranormal activity. Helen,

the new owner, called in the experts just

three months after moving in.

Usually, Paul Goddard offers regression

under hypnosis as a way to investigate

previous lives which may be having an

impact on the present. However, he was

delighted to meet the new challenge.

He said: “We were at the house of a lady

in an old, converted Methodist church. She

had encountered spiritual activity. One

experience she had was the hymn All Things

Bright and Beautiful suddenly came on

through her speaker system.”

The music was being played via Helen’s

electronic virtual assistant – a device

similar to Alexa. She had also felt someone

tap her on the shoulder when no-one else

was there.

Paul said, “The lady thought, due to the

conversion of the building, the spirits were

trying to convey they were not happy with

what she was doing to it.”

Helen agreed, saying, “I would really

love the team to find out who it is that’s

here, it would help me settle in more.”

The show’s medium, Ian Lawman, took

an initial walk around the building and

commented, “There’s so much spiritual

energy here, I’m not surprised Helen has

called us in.”

The Grade II listed building on Martley

Road was linked to a denomination of

Methodism created by Lady Selina Shirley,

the Countess of Huntingdon. It closed in

the 1960s and is now a three bedroomed

house.

Paul said: “I was able to hypnotise Barri

through layers of time in a spiritual way.

He wanted to go back to 1825 to see the

chapel.

“It was very successful. Barri had his

eyes closed throughout the process. What

was remarkable is that he did not bump

into any walls as he made his way through

the building. He was able to describe to me

what he was seeing.

“He was interacting with people from

1825. In particular, he was speaking to, and

asking questions of, a man called Arthur,

who was part of the Methodist movement.”

After Paul had brought Barri round

from the trance, the team carried out their

further investigation overnight.

The hypnotherapist said: “I have seen

some strange things during hypnosis and

regression, but I would love to be able to

do something like this again. This whole

experience really blew me away.”

Paul Goddard made the headlines

last year when he hypnotised another

paranormal investigator, with surprising

results.

In the session, which was broadcast live

on YouTube, the client was recounting her

experience in trance when viewers were

sure they heard an unknown voice saying:

“Tell her.”

The video showing Kate Ray and the

unseen interloper went viral, with many

claiming this to be an instance of Electronic

Voice Phenomena (EVP) – the recording of

sounds from unseen sources.

Neither Paul nor Kate were aware of

the extra voice at the time, it was only

picked up by the microphone. When

viewers alerted them, they listened back

and agreed it appeared to be an instance

of EVP.

Kate sent the clip to Barry Ghai from

Help! my House is Haunted, as he is an

expert at removing background noise on

recordings so any potential EVP can be

heard more clearly.

When she heard the enhanced clip, Kate

said: “I still hear ‘Tell Her.’ I wonder what it

is I need to be told.”

Chapel of Unrest and is available on the

Medium Mark Anthony, JD, (aka the Psychic Lawyer) is author of “The

Afterlife Frequency,” “Never Letting Go” and “Evidence of Eternity.” All were

critically acclaimed spiritual bestsellers.

He is an Oxford-educated trial attorney, world-renowned psychic,

nationally recognised legal analyst, headline speaker at international

conferences and universities, and a favourite guest on TV and radio shows.

He co-hosts “The Psychic & The Doc” on Transformation Network and is a

regular columnist for “Best Holistic Life” magazine.

He studied mediumship at the prestigious Arthur Findlay College for the

Advancement of Psychic Science in Stansted, England.

Here, he shares some top tips on how to receive and recognise messages

from the spirit world.

NOT everyone is a medium, but everyone

is capable of perceiving spirits and intuitive

messages.

The key is learning to recognise the

presence of spirits and the signs they

present, accepting the reality of the

contact, feeling the importance and

emotional significance of the message, and

trusting your feelings as well as the truth

and guidance provided by the message.

This is the RAFT technique. Let’s examine

each step.

RECOGNISE

Recognise means learning to identify when

a spirit or collective of spirits is making

his/her/their presence known. It is all

the result of a human’s electromagnetic

field interfacing with the electromagnetic

energy of a spirit.

Sensing the contact can manifest in

different forms, such as a sensation of

tingling or cold chills, a glimpse in one’s

peripheral vision, hearing a familiar

person’s voice in your mind’s ear or simply

knowing.

You can also have your attention

directed to do something, like turning

on a radio and immediately hearing the

song that makes you think of a loved one

in spirit. You can also be directed to see

a specific number combination or even a

living being, like a particular type of bird or

insect, such as a dragonfly or a butterfly.

How to Make Spiritual Contact

ACCEPT

Accept the reality of the contact. This will

happen when you let down your barriers

and give yourself permission to have the

contact. This may sound elementary, but

people tend to negate or even fear spirit

contact, which leads them to dismiss the

experience and create an energetic block

to it.

The Other Side is a dimension that

exists parallel to our material world

dimension. Spirits are part of the collective

consciousness, and they can and do

communicate with us.

They don’t speak a human language –

they speak “frequency.” They will transmit

signs, images, sound and scents, and direct

our attention to particular things via

frequency beacons.

This is not hocus-pocus or fantasy.

Once you accept the reality of spirit

communication and let the spirits (as

well as yourself) know that it’s okay, they

will begin transmitting guidance and

information to you.

FEEL

Feel first; think later! This is where many

people hit a dead end with spirit contact

(pun intended). Your immediate feeling

when you recognise the sign is crucial. It’s

the first emotional sensation you feel, no

matter how outlandish.

Spirit communication is an intuitive and

emotional process, and it is easy to overanalyse a sensation and rationalise it away.

One of the most common mistakes

people make during spirit contact is to

overthink or over-analyse the initial

imagery or message conveyed.

Drawing upon my background as a

trial lawyer, I call this “cross-examining

the experience.” As soon as the imagery

or signs from spirits appear, your mind’s

ego begins the cross-examination to

tear the messages apart with questions

like, “How can this be true? Isn’t this just

my imagination? Couldn’t this just be a

coincidence? Don’t you think I’m reading

into this? Who would believe me?”

By hyper-analysing the initial contact,

you counteract the positive energy of

a spirit with a negative energy barrier,

and the spirit will back off. This also

happens during a reading when someone

immediately shoots down and negates

the imagery or message presented by the

medium. In short, negative energy blocks

the messages transmitted by spirits.

To obtain the maximum benefit from

spirit contact, go with your first feeling

about the sign. Then, after the experience,

analyse why you felt that way and what it

meant to you…

There is a period after the contact

that I describe as the “unfolding.” At this

point, the full impact of the contact will

begin to make sense to you. The unfolding

can take minutes, hours, days, weeks

and even longer for the full impact of the

interdimensional communication to be

revealed.

More often than not, you will discover

it contains multiple meaning messages.

I use the term multiple meaning messages

to describe information received during

interdimensional communication that has

significance in several ways and on several

different levels.

TRUST

Trust ties everything together. This is

learning to trust the truth and guidance

provided by the spirit contact. It is also

about trusting your own feelings.

During lectures and public mediumship

demonstrations, I often discuss the

importance of trusting one’s feelings. Then

I will ask the audience, “Whenever you

have overruled your woman’s intuition or

man’s gut instinct, are you happy you did,

or did you regret it?” Practically everyone

expresses regret for not trusting their

feelings.

Spirit communication is transferred

to us at lightning speed. It resonates with

our body, yet our ego, that pesky creature

manufactured in the human brain, wants

the last word. This is why fear, rejection

or hyper-analysis can get in the way,

thwarting the power of the message.

Spirits know that not everyone is a

medium, but they also know that everyone

is capable of a mediumistic experience,

because everyone possesses the sixth

sense to some degree.

26 PSYCHIC NEWS | APRIL 2023

Roberta Mussato was a freelance linguist in 2018, when she decided to go

away backpacking in Asia alone for three months to escape a generalised

crisis she had been having for rather too long. Reasoning that most of the

pain and sorrow she was feeling in her life came from unmet expectations, she

decided to experiment — and not plan a single thing for her trip! What might

life be like if you didn’t have any expectations and just embrace whatever

shows up?

It turned out for Roberta that when you go with the flow, you really go

with the soul. Those three months around Sri Lanka, India and Nepal became

a spiritual experience packed with life lessons and epiphanies, so much so

that she felt called to share them in her book, “Universe, I Trust You – One

month in Sri Lanka,” recently featured on BBC Radio London. Following a

vision she had while in Nepal, she now works as a Master Life Coach and NLP

Practitioner, helping people become unstuck, more aligned and ultimately

better versions of themselves.

HOW many emotions can get stirred-up

simply by looking at a photograph? I have

a photo I took on Monday February 12,

2018, just as I was setting off for my three

months’ trip backpacking alone in Asia.

I can still distinctly feel the excitement

and the aliveness finally flooding my body

after months of low vibrations. I also smile

at that version of me who had no idea how

her life would change once back from that

trip.

On that Monday in February, I only

knew that I was done with feeling sad,

lonely and stuck. My emotional batteries

had been running on empty for too long

and I did not like the person I had become,

who felt a victim of circumstances, not

understood by her friends and focused

on looking only at the things she had not

achieved. So much of my energy was spent

in functioning daily in a life where a lot was

going wrong.

My life was far removed from what had

been my expectations of getting married to

an amazing man and having three children.

Instead, I had been single for eight years,

and I had tried an egg freezing procedure

abroad, alone. The deep pain connected

to its failure was exacerbated by my deadend dates, as I kept meeting men who

were commitment phobic, emotionally

unavailable or with a criminal record.

On the friends front I didn’t feel

understood, and the whole world came

crumbling down on me when I discovered

that my best friend had kept a painful

secret from me, which completely changed

the dynamic of our friendship. I ended

up drained trying to save him from his

addiction, only to be told that all my efforts

were only worsening things for him.

And workwise, much as I enjoyed my

jobs as interpreter, subtitler and voice-over

artist, deep down I felt that I was meant to

do something else, to help people, though I

had no idea in what capacity.

I was so tired from holding things up,

from pushing forward, from swimming in

uncertainty, from having to act so

dis-aligned with my values in order to

protect my best friend.

Back then I had already been taking a

few steps in my spiritual journey, which

I liked to refer to as my “walk into hippyland.”

It all started with a biodynamic

craniosacral therapy session when, for

the first time in my life, I really felt energy

flowing strongly inside me.

Then came Qigong (chi kung), where,

with slow and repetitive movements,

I could see for the first time what was

happening inside my body.

Then followed mindfulness, and Eckhart

Tolle’s The Power of Now, and I learnt how

much richer and more intense life can be

when we devote our full attention to each

precious moment.

I also tried sound baths and went on

a shamanic journey with ayahuasca. A

constant message that emerged loud and

clear from all those experiences was the

importance to let go. I just had no idea how

to do it. How can you have no attachments

and no expectations?

I figured that I could use my three

months away as a sort of spiritual gym for

this: having no pre-set ideas on how things

should happen, so that everything is dealt

with and welcome exactly as it shows up.

Deciding not to plan a single thing was

both a bit scary and so liberating. For so

long I had used a lot of energy trying to

keep my life steady and making sure that

my friend wouldn’t fall off the wagon with

his addiction. I was not used to leaving

everything to the Universe but was eager

to experiment.

“Universe, I Trust You” became my

mantra on those hot days, and when

you relate to life with this attitude you

start looking closely for suggestions of

what the Universe may want for you and

your highest benefit. I already felt that

coincidences per se don’t exist, but I learnt

that synchronicities are the Universe’s way

to wink at you and tell you what to do next.

For example, when I was debating on

whether to accept a guy’s invitation for

a drink, I saw “Choose love” on a t-shirt. I

accepted the drink, and that guy ended up

playing an important role in my Sri Lankan

month.

ROBERTA receives a blessing from a resident at the Millennium Elephant Foundation in Sri Lanka.

When I was unsure on whether to leave

or stay at a party, the DJ put on the Rocky

movie theme song, Eye of the Tiger, which

has always been my song, but which was

completely out of place with the music

played until then. It was clear I had to stay,

and I discovered afterwards why.

When the conversation with the other

backpackers in my hostel’s garden turned

organically to silent meditation retreats,

and I discovered ten minutes later that

the new guy sleeping on the bunk bed

above me had just come out of a Vipassana

meditation silent retreat in Nepal. I knew

then that I had to have that experience

too.

The signs are not always there to show

you what to do next. Sometimes, it’s the

Universe’s way to let you know that you

are loved and cared for, or that you are on

the right path.

For example, when my flip-flops got

broken in my discovery walk around

Colombo, it happened just in front of a

cobbler, working on the pavement a few

metres from me.

When the boss of a paper producing

company wanted to thank me for my help,

out of more than 500 items they sold he

gave me a set of journals, right when mine

was about to finish, and I had to buy a new

one. And out of all the messages that could

have been written on the cover, there was

a yellow balloon floating in the air with the

words “Let it go.”

The world became like a huge book to

read, with signs and synchronicities on

every page. Some were just so huge, that

I had to take my hat off to the Universe,

feeling inundated with its love and magic.

I also learnt that taking life as it comes,

without forcing it and controlling the

outcome, not only is so much better in

the moment, but always brings something

positive, as if the Universe’s default

direction is towards goodness. And that

when you make a wish to the Universe,

without attachment to the outcome, things

can get delivered so quickly.

One evening I was wishing to have

someone to enjoy the starry sky at the

beach with, and there I was the very next

day living that exact moment with a person

I had just met – because I had decided to

change my plans and follow my soul.

Another lesson learnt while journalling

and backpacking my way around Asia is

that when the mind and spirit are free

from all those ego-based and fear-induced

thoughts that clog them, we are more able

to connect with our intuition.

A ten-day silent Vipassana meditation

retreat in Nepal (following the meeting

mentioned earlier with the guy I had met

in the hostel) turned out to be one of

the hardest and the most mind-blowing

experiences of my life.

On day eight I had what I can only call

a vision. In my mind I saw a wall with the

letters NLP graffitied onto it. I had to wait

for the end of the retreat to be given my

mobile phone back so I could search what

NLP meant – I had no idea.

When I discovered that it stands for

Neuro Linguistic Programming and read

further, I saw how much sense it made

for me as my next career move, having

always studied communication and being

interested in psychology.

I could name many other examples and

life lessons learnt, but I don’t want to take

away the joy of discovery from readers.

I came back with the unshakeable belief

that the Universe loves us and that we

are always guided, and that letting go and

living in trust is so empowering.

May you all be able to experience this.

MaryAnn DiMarco (pictured above) is the author of “Medium

Mentor: 10 Powerful Techniques to Awaken Divine Guidance for

Yourself and Others.”  An internationally recognised psychic, medium,

healer and spiritual teacher, her work has been featured in media outlets

like “The New York Times,” “The Dr Oz Show,” “Women’s Health,” “Elle”

and “Redbook.”

TO HELP us stay connected to the positive,

I recommend a pair of foundational

practices to cleanse and ground. Many

cultures have a ritualistic cleansing

practice, often done with smoke or water,

to help remove negative or stagnant

energy.

There are also numerous practices that

point to the idea of grounding: connecting

oneself to the body and the Earth while

calling upon divine energy for support.

These rituals involve regularly removing

what does not serve us and recommitting

our entire being — and, specifically, our

body — to the pure channelling of love and

light.

Without these practices, things don’t

flow the way they should. This creates a

breeding ground for doubt. At best, we

feel discomfort, which makes it hard to

keep doing the work we need to do. At

worst, stagnant energy hangs around us.

We feel like we’re losing touch with reality;

our doubt goes off the charts. This is an

unfortunate state to be in and entirely

unnecessary. We’re better off if we prevent

it altogether.

Choose a way to clean your space, your

body and any sacred objects you hold dear.

I encourage this level of freedom, this DIYstyle spirituality, with everything.

That means if you want to cleanse with

incense, go for it. If you want to burn sage

or palo santo or some other raw plant,

that’s fantastic. If you’re into holy water, or

tap water with essential oils, or even water

you’ve collected from your favourite forest

stream, dot a little on your heart or your

third eye (the seat of your intuition, located

on your forehead between your brows), or

perhaps pour a bit on your head or hands.

You can say a prayer while you do so, sing

a song, recite a mantra, or empty your mind

of all thoughts. Pay special attention to the

parts of your physical or spiritual body that

feel energetically significant — your heart,

your hands, your third eye, and so on.

What matters most is that you’re putting

intention toward releasing what doesn’t

serve you.

The same principle applies to grounding.

Grounding is about protection. It’s about

staying present enough to guard our own

house, and to ask our guides to join us in

that.

In most cases, we physically get low

to the ground — think praying, sitting in

meditation, and so forth — or at least bring

attention to the lower parts of the body.

Then we ask for help from something

outside us. By reconnecting with the light,

we remind ourselves of what our spirit is

here to do — inhabit this body, for a time,

and use that time wisely. We then allow

divine energy to come through us, filling

us up with positivity and replenishing our

resources.

As with cleansing, there are many

ways to go about grounding. If you feel

connected to a cultural tradition, practise

that. If you’re called to make up your own

thing or to adapt a version of someone

else’s teaching, that’s fine, too. How you

protect yourself is your business; my only

goal is to convince you to do so.

When I use words like cleanse, ground

and protect, I don’t want to give the

impression that there’s something dirty

or unsafe about spiritual lightwork,

because I don’t believe that to be the case.

Instead, we owe these rituals to

ourselves and our Team as a sign of

respect. We don’t allow anything to build

up, any outside energies to cling to us. We

hold ourselves accountable by affirming,

over and over again, what we’re here to do:

to work with light while in a human body.

Repeating these practices over and over

is a necessary part of turning toward a

spiritual life.

In summary: find your thing, pick your

and Protecting

way, and do it regularly. I’m a stickler about

that last part. As you practice cleansing

and grounding, you will start to know when

you need them. These rituals will become

comforting; they will become your spiritual

home base.

PRACTICE

Smudging and ‘Bringing In the Light’

You may have already identified the

cleansing and grounding practices that

are going to work best for you. If you

are still curious, I offer my own. My

cleansing practice is smudging with sage,

and my grounding practice is an adapted

visualisation meditation that I call Bringing

In the Light.

Smudging

We’ll start with smudging. This is a

technique developed in numerous Native

American traditions that uses smoke to

cleanse the air, which in turn can clear any

energetic nastiness hanging on to people,

animals, places and the like.

While the act largely mirrors similar

incense and smoke-cleansing methods

from Europe, East Asia and the Middle

East, using white sage (my preferred plant

for cleansing) is unique to the indigenous

communities from the North American

continent. White sage has a powerful and

immediate effect.

To smudge, light the tip of a single dried

leaf or the end of a smudge stick, putting

your intention into the flame before

blowing it out and allowing the plant to

smoulder.

I love the smell; it immediately opens

me up to Spirit. Then, using a small bowl or

other sacred item (I like using an abalone

shell) to catch any burning pieces that

might fall, wave a feather to direct the

smoke around your space, clearing out

everything that isn’t for your own highest

good and that of others.

Move the smoke over your whole body,

being sure to cleanse your hands, heart

and third eye. When you’re finished, you

can allow the sage to burn out on its own

in the bowl, or if it’s very well lit, consider

putting it out in a little bit of sand or fresh

soil.

Bringing In the Light

Bringing In the Light is a mini-meditation

based on one I learned from my teacher

Pat Longo. This grounding ritual helps us

replenish our energy directly from the

Source. It offers us a protective energy

boost while spreading universal Source

energy throughout the world. This practice

is done seated with the palms facing up.

Start by saying, either internally or

aloud: “Dear guides, with gratitude I ask

that you fill my body and soul with your

love and protection. Please ground my

energy so that I may serve the greater

good with a renewed vibration.”

Feel your body connected to the Earth.

See your own energy reaching down to the

planet’s very core. Then imagine a bright

beam of light coming from above and filling

you with divine energy.

If visualisation comes easily to you, it’s

possible that you will actually see this light

in your mind’s eye. If you’ve never in your

life been able to see things in your mind’s

eye, don’t worry — just imagine it.

Allow the light to enter in through the

top of your head, beaming down through

your face, and allow some of it to expand

outward through your ears, sending forth

all the knowledge of the Universe.

Allow the light to continue descending

through your throat, neck, chest and

shoulders; into your arms; and through

your fingertips. Allow it to move down

through your torso and belly and down

your legs to come out of your feet.

See the light connecting you directly to

the floor (if you’re indoors) and the earth

beneath it. Now, allow that light to ground

you even further. Take a few breaths,

feeling how the light grounds you. When

you’re ready, open your eyes.

I encourage you to adapt this ritual for

your own needs over time. You will likely

learn to do it quickly, sometimes even

imperceptibly, as needed. The more you

do so, the more you’ll be able to recognise

when your energy requires a slight

adjustment to realign with Spirit.

Steven Smith is a medium bridging the world of spirit to ours here on Earth, delivering spirit

communication with compassion and respect. He has featured on “The Psychic Matters

Podcast” with listeners in over 117 countries and has received training in Ojai, California, and

the United Kingdom.

Steven has conducted public demonstrations and offers private appointments, including

guidance, healing and mentorship services. Here he talks about the signs we receive from the

spirit world.

SPIRIT uses signs to communicate with

us as well as language. The sign language

of the spirit world is paramount to the

way communication takes place during

mediumship readings. This process also

applies to the guidance and messages that

we receive from Spirit daily.

Although it may have its mysteries and is

not always a straightforward path to learn

and develop, the communication process

of sign language from the spirit world takes

place more often than most of us realise.

The physicality of the human body

and its ability to perform sign language

through one’s hands, facial expressions

and gestures are not required in any facet

with spirit communication. Although,

that’s not to say our physical ability for sign

language itself does not come in handy in

communicating with the spirit world.

Bringing our awareness to the sign

language of the spirit world is helpful to

each of us because our everyday life is

filled with Spirit-led sign language, day in,

day out, right from the moment we were

born. In contrast to this, before we moved

into our physical bodies for this lifetime,

we were in the realms of spirit, and used

the same Spirit-led sign language.

I am happy to say that this is excellent

news for all of us because it means we

already have the programming within our

inner-world, our soul-self. It’s only a matter

of becoming more aware and being open

to remembering and re-learning how the

process of such a unique sign language

takes place.

Let’s look at spiritual sign language

from an observational perspective and

contemplate why it is important, including

how it is relevant to each of us as the

wonderful, unique and beautiful spirits

that we are.

It’s important because the guidance we

receive through this sign language helps

us to navigate our way through this human

life experience. It gives us a better sense

of direction and clearer vision to face the

challenges we come across in our lives and

for helping others who need support.

Often without realising it, we

have a natural way of receiving this

communication on a regular basis. Let’s

look at an example.

A lady named Jenny was on her way to

work. Suddenly her attention was led – by

Spirit – to a dear friend of hers named

Edith, who she felt required significant

emotional support due to a stressful event

that had just taken place in her life.

It should be noted that Jenny did not

know this was a message communicated to

her from the spirit world. It was a feeling or

thought she suddenly had.

Jenny had not been in touch with her

friend Edith for quite some time and had

not known anything about her current

circumstances.

The message compelled Jenny to phone

Edith immediately. When the phone was

answered Jenny asked: “Edith, are you

okay? I don’t know why exactly, but I feel

concerned for you and want to let you

know that I am here for you any time of

day or night. I love you and hope things are

okay.”

Edith was immediately tearful as she

responded emotionally: “Oh Jenny, I don’t

know what to do with myself. I am so

overwhelmed and torn with sadness. My

husband passed away unexpectedly last

night.”

Jenny was shocked and did not expect

to hear this news, however, she went on

to support Edith for a period during her

healing journey of grief and acceptance of

the immense change that had taken place

in her life.

This one example clearly shows the

importance of such personal signs or

messages from the spirit world. But let’s

now take a closer look into what really

went on during this experience with a

more descriptive and accurate account of

what took place “behind the scenes” so to

speak.

Whilst Jenny was walking to work

taking in the scenery around her, an image

of Edith popped into her mind. This was

followed by an image of Edith crying and

sobbing on the floor, and then another

image of Edith receiving a telephone call.

Jenny began to feel a sense of urgency and

anxiety, describing it as an uncomfortable

knot in her chest area.

These images and feelings initially

seemed bizarre to Jenny, and she did not

know what to make of them. She was

hesitant to phone her friend in fear that

she would come across as odd or intrusive.

However, it was for the greater good

that she instinctively went with her

gut feeling and called Edith, which was

followed by her friend receiving great

comfort, support and healing.

Some months later, the two friends

went to a mediumship demonstration in

a nearby town. To their surprise, Edith’s

late husband, George, came through

to communicate with them both. The

medium brought forward an extensive

amount of evidential information, enough

to reassure them that it was most certainly

George coming through.

The medium described George so

accurately, including his attire, personality,

interests in life and unique memories. One

piece of information that struck them was

when the medium shared how George was

showing him an event.

Directing his voice to Jenny, he said:

“This gentleman is showing me a memory

of yourself, madam. He is showing me you

walking on your way to somewhere and is

giving me the feeling of being thrown by

something.

“He is now placing a photo in front of

you on this walk, the photo is of the lady

sitting next to you in the audience here

today.

“Now he is showing me a telephone

ringing, as though you needed to make a

phone call of some kind, and he is giving me

a rather anxious feeling. Does this make

sense to you, madam?”

With amazement and awe, both Jenny

and Edith looked at each other and

began to cry, feeling a sense of further

healing taking place. All along it was

Spirit communicating to Jenny through

BY journaling our experiences “we allow ourselves to broaden our awareness of what individually happens

to us during these times.”

HAVE you ever felt suddenly compelled to phone a

friend because you feel that something’s not right

with them?

the means of a unique process of sign

language.

The sign language of Spirit is vast and

dynamic, fruitful and sweet, surprising and

enlightening. It is likely that you can look

back at some of your own past experiences

where similar situations, signs or intuitive

feelings have happened.

I highly recommend journalling such

experiences, even if it is one that took

place in the distant past. It is never too late

to reflect on these.

In doing so, we allow ourselves

to broaden our awareness of what

individually happens to us during these

times. One experience may be very

different to another, or similarities may

occur.

I feel it is also important for us to know

that these experiences are possible and do

happen to all of us. For some it may be very

evident and for others more subtle.

However, it should be known that you

do not need to be living a particular way or

practising a spiritual or mediumistic path

for these experiences to take place.

Whether you have a belief in spiritual

matters and practices or no interest in

them at all, these messages do still come

through and the spirit world does its best

to deliver such messages in a number of

ways.

So please be reassured that no matter

what pathway you are on in life, you

can have the confidence to trust the

sign language when you notice such an

experience unfolding in front of you.

The classical way that spirit

communication is taught is often referred

to in the form of the “Clairs.” The Clairs are

essentially a set of descriptions which shed

light on our sixth senses. We were all born

with these senses.

Clairvoyance Is a way in which we use our

mind’s eye to receive spirit communication.

It is our inner vision, enabling the ability to

receive signs, images and visual cues. Some

describe it as a TV within the mind.

Clairaudience is a way in which we use

our hearing to receive spirit communication,

which can be both internally within our

mind and externally just as we may hear the

television through our physical ears.

Clairsentience is a way in which we use

our feelings to receive spirit communication,

we can get a sense of feeling about something

or someone. We may sense the emotions

around an individual or situation.

Claircognisance is a way in which

we use our gut instinct to receive spirit

communication, where we just have a hunch

of knowing something that later turns out to

be true.

Clairalience is a way in which we use our

sense of smell to receive spirit communication,

it is the ability to smell odours that have

no physical source; maybe a fond scent of a

particular loved one who we were once close

to.

Clairgustance is a way in which we use

our taste to receive spirit communication,

it could be a case that you suddenly taste

tobacco or alcohol in your mouth, even though

you do not smoke or drink.

Clairtangency is a way in which we

use our physical touch to receive spirit

communication, by simply sitting on a chair

that once belonged to someone now in spirit,

their very essence may step forward. This is

also known as psychometry.

I believe there are more Clairs than we

perhaps already know of. There are depths

to the nature of living a human experience

in a soul’s journey which the brain can’t

possibly comprehend.

I strongly feel that as time goes by

in life, and as we go on to evolve as a

collective consciousness, much deeper

awareness and insight will be brought to

the realms of our living consciousness,

including a heightened sense of awareness

added to the frequencies of the dimensions

here on Earth.

How does this communication

process take place?

When we are in an altered state of

awareness/consciousness, those in the

spirit world have a way of passing on

“WHEN we are in an altered state of awareness/

consciousness, those in the spirit world have a way

of passing on information to us, we could call this

telepathy or silent communication.”

information to us, we could call this

telepathy or silent communication.

There is no physical presence from

those on the Other Side communicating

with us, however, their presence is an

active force in the form of their soul-being

and energetic frequencies. We, as souls

within these physical bodies, all have the

ability to connect in the exact same way as

Spirit does.

The element of an altered state of

awareness/consciousness really comes

into practice here, because when those

in the spirit world communicate with us

using their sign language, it is required for

our busy minds to be gently toned down a

notch or two.

These communications can take place

during mundane tasks such as walking to

work, running errands or taking some time

to relax in a candlelit bubble bath.

This type of altered state of awareness/

consciousness is a process which takes

place unintentionally, and it is in times like

this when we get those “Ah ha!” moments,

or the miraculous knowing of who is about

to call us.

The more focused way of entering

this state is through practices such as

meditation and participating in active

development groups such as mediumship

circles.

During this altered state our energy is

raised to a heightened state, and we could

see this as tuning into our spirit world

radio, so to speak. In doing this we also

allow for the spirit realm to join in and

meet us somewhere in the middle of that

radio wave.

This is where the puzzle pieces meet,

and the communication takes place. Spirit

begins to pass over information from

their side, this may be received through

the various forms of spirit sign language;

seeing, hearing, sensing, smelling, knowing

etc.

When you embark on developing these

areas of communication from the spirit

realm, you also begin developing your own

unique way of communicating back to

Spirit.

I use the term “unique” here as it is

simply that. Each one of us, as we all know,

is unique in our own right and we have our

own way of doing things. What works well

for one may not work well for another.

For example, in a session with a client,

if I were to ask a spirit being to elaborate

on the information they were passing to

me, I may think that sentence in my mind:

“Spirit, please can you elaborate on this

information?”

This may be just enough for the spirit

communicator to report back to me

effectively. Although, for some in the spirit

world, sending imagery back to them

can be very helpful in engaging a better

understanding. So, instead of just using the

intention of thought, I may then conjure up

a clear visual in my mind’s eye.

This could be a small picture which is

surrounded by brainstorming activity, and

behind that is another layer of a bigger

picture encompassing the prior details.

In doing this we help bridge that gap for

those on the Other Side who may also be

developing their communication skills with

us here on Earth.

Some communicators in the spirit world

are more developed than others and this

shows as strength during communication.

Being clear with the person they are

passing information over to on Earth may

be as fluid as water running gracefully from

a tap.

Although, it is important to note that

just because the communicator in spirit is

well developed, the person on Earth may

be early on in their development and need

to get to know their signs and symbols

more clearly.

As a working medium I have come to

learn a lot of signs and symbols that have

a unique meaning to me, and this enables

me to understand what the spirit world is

communicating to me.

I know that when I see a steam train,

they are making a reference to chronic

smoking, although when I see a nonsteam train, I know they are referencing a

distance to be travelled. When I am shown

a stationary train, they are referencing the

feeling of being burnt out and having no

energy etc.

The depths to the nature of this

topic are never ending and I eagerly

encourage you to explore these areas if

you feel drawn to do so. There is a way

of incorporating these abilities into our

everyday lives and it is only a matter of

being open to the practice of it.

The message here is to know that the

spirit world has got our back and they are

only ever a moment’s thought away. The

more fine-tuned your awareness becomes

to such dynamics, the more other areas of

your life can become fine-tuned too.

Keep on moving forward on your

journey. You have got this.

BOOKS BY DIANE LAZARUS

MIXED BLESSINGSis Diane’s first book

Diane has used her psychic ability to help the Police, Air and Coastguard Rescue as well as historical research.

She gives consultations to the public and celebrities, and also works as a healer.

In 2006, she was crowned Britain’s Best Psychic in the Channel 5 programme Britain’s Psychic Challenge.

Diane lives with her husband and two children in Wales.

At the age of eight, Diane Lazarus first experienced the power of her amazing gift by seeing, hearing and

speaking to spirits. Since then, Diane has learned to control her gift, switching it on and off at will.

Today she is rated in the top five professional psychics worldwide. Her ability to visualise past and future

events means she’s frequently used by police throughout the UK – her accuracy in several murder investigations

have prompted senior officers to call for her psychic assistance in a number of high profile crimes.

This book recounts how she first discovered her gift, which turned out to be a pretty terrifying experience, and

how she came to develop it despite the disapproval and disbelief of many of those around her.

Diane’s childhood was a struggle, her family suffered at the hands of their violent father and although they

managed to escape his grasp, it took time for Diane to become confident with her gift . A mixed blessing, but one

she has managed to use to benefit so many others.

PSYCHIC BLESSINGSis Diane’s second book

After being crowned Britain’s Best Psychic in 2006, Diane thought her life would get easier. After a turbulent

childhood and a mother who constantly warned her to hide her strange powers for fear of being labelled “crazy,”

she thought she could now relax and use her psychic gift openly. Yet, as her fame spread and desperate people

from around the globe began to beg for her help, she found herself suddenly thrust into a world of brutal

murders, sinister disappearances, spooky events and personal heartbreak.

Once again she had to fight back, with only the invisible presence of her brave Great Grandfather in Spirit at

her shoulder, constantly urging her on. And along the way, just as he promised, a miracle happened. Diane found

love again and, to her amazement, she discovered her powers were actually increasing.

Diane’s new life was only just beginning...

What is a Lightworker? – Sandy Richardson,

New York, USA

Do you instinctively feel different from

others? Are you aware of a higher purpose

in life other than achieving material

success?

Do you look upon religions as being

generally manmade and therefore

irrelevant? Are you rebellious and

suspicious of authority?

Do you know – not just believe –

that you are a spiritual being having a

temporary physical experience? Do you

wish to use any special gifts you possess

for the benefit of others?

Then rest assured, you are not alone.

There are many, many others just like you.

They are known as Lightworkers.

Traditionally, they have been mediums,

healers, psychics, astrologers and yogis

etc. They have always existed, albeit on

the fringes of society. Last century they

initiated new spiritual movements such

as Modern Spiritualism, that rose to

prominence.

For a while those movements shone a

transforming light. That is, until they were

successfully opposed by religious groups

and materialists, lost their momentum and

became minority pursuits.

Modern Spiritualism, for instance, dates

from the 1840s and was supposed to be

an evidential revelation of humankind’s

true spiritual nature. Unfortunately, some

mediums were fraudulent. Detractors

successfully used that fact to deride and

belittle the movement in general, and it

declined.

Now a new breed of Lightworker is

emerging. It includes spiritual leaders,

counsellors, authors, broadcasters (see

YouTube) and channellers for angels,

ascended masters and extra-terrestrial

beings.

Generally, they are old souls, perhaps

as old as the human race. Others, although

old, are understood to be incarnating on

Earth for the first time. Also known as Star

Seeds, Indigos, Crystal or Rainbow children

they have mostly been born in the last

forty years.

All have incarnated for a specific

purpose. Collectively, they are here on

a mission to save us from ourselves, e.g.,

from destroying humanity and the planet

in a nuclear Armageddon, polluting it

with harmful emissions, hunting wild life

to extinction and breeding animals for

slaughter.

They are here to shed light on

humankind and replace belief and faith

with knowledge and understanding. They

have helped us to rediscover the Ancient

Wisdom in the form of meditation and

other spiritual exercises, healthy eating

and alternative therapies.

They regard Earth as an organic being

whom some call by her old Greek name of

Gaia. They understand that Gaia herself is

ascending from the third to the fourth and

then fifth dimension, just as we are.

Their mission includes helping Gaia in

her ascension. Also known as earth angels,

they help transmute her energies from

the negative to those of light and love.

They also come to heal others by bringing

love and light, knowledge, understanding,

liberty and healing.

They differ from past leaders inasmuch

as they are not destined to become leaders

in the traditional sense. On the contrary,

they feel uncomfortable about being here,

surrounded as they are by injustice, cruelty

and greed.

Consequently, they are often loners,

even shy and retiring. Initially, they might

feel a deep sense of mission and purpose,

but don’t quite understand what it is. Nor

might they understand the unique type of

energy they possess, still less how to use it

to spread light and heal and awaken others.

For that they must undergo a spiritual

awakening before they can fulfil their

potential and help others. A Lightworker is

therefore someone with what is termed an

“awakened spirituality.”

As well as exercising their special gifts,

Lightworkers act in harmony with nature.

They are often good gardeners, are in thrall

to wildlife and abhor animal cruelty. They

are likely to lead healthy lives, eat a plantbased diet and shun strong alcohol and

recreational drugs.

Now though, as in the past, some socalled Lightworkers are false prophets. The

advice in the New Testament, 1 John 4:1

still holds good: “Test the prophets to see

whether they are from God.”

Who was the Victorian blind medium

who was an opera singer and also

demonstrated full materialisation?

– Simon Broadstairs, Edinburgh

He was Cecil Husk. Born in 1847,

his psychic experiences began as a boy

when he saw spirit forms.

His father, a professional singer,

was also a Spiritualist and encouraged

him to develop his psychic gifts. By the

time he joined the Carl Rosa Opera

Company as a singer around 1875,

he was accomplished enough as a

materialisation medium to give séances

while on tour.

Unfortunately, his sight deteriorated

and so he exchanged a musical career

for that of a professional medium. He

sat inside a cabinet while the spirits

materialised. They came out, walked

about and conversed with the sitters.

An important witness to his

mediumship was Florence Marryat

(1833-1899). A novelist, singer and

actress, she sat with the leading

mediums of the day. In The Spirit World

(see archive.org) she describes a series

of séances with Cecil Husk in 1892.

His principal guide was John

King, the powerful control of several

mediums including Florence Cook, the

materialisation medium for the spirit

of Katie King. The subordinate guides

were Ebenezer, Christopher, Uncle,

Tom Hall and Joey. (Joey had been

the guide of physical medium William

Eglinton),

“These controls,” Florence added,

“are employed in gathering the

materials with which John King works,

so that there may be no delay when he

arrives. As soon as that happens, you may

hear him issuing his commands to one and

another.”

He would say: “Make those passes more

to the right” or “Keep his head up ‘’ or “Two

of you raise his shoulders, so as to place

him in a more upright position” and so on.

They would then reply: “All right, John” or

“I’ve done it.”

King told her how the materialisations

were achieved. “When the controls have

collected the matter with which I work

– some from everybody in the circle, but

mostly from the medium’s brain – I mould

with it a plastic mask, somewhat like warm

wax in feel, but transparent as gelatine,

into the rough likeness of a face.”

The materialised spirit forms were

generally clad in ectoplasmic white

drapery which King had found to be the

most suitable substance. Florence noticed

that “when the full form dematerialises in

sight, and goes down through the floor, the

drapery invariably is left behind for a few

seconds till it follows suit.”

Alternatively, a spirit visitor could

choose to manifest in earthly apparel, but

would not be able to appear for as long.

The most dramatic materialisation she

saw was of Prince Albert Victor, Duke of

Clarence who had passed with pneumonia

in January 1892. He had been second in

line of succession to the throne.

Florence wrote: “I had, in common with

the rest of the nation, been deeply grieved

at the announcement of his death; and, as

will be seen hereafter, he seems to have

been aware of it.

“’For some time before he appeared,

we heard him remonstrating inside the

cabinet and say: ‘Leave me alone. Do leave

me alone. Can’t you see that I’m ill? Let me

rest.’ He, evidently, believed himself to be

still lying in his bed at Sandringham (where

he had passed).

“I did not know who was talking after

this fashion; but, as soon as the Duke

appeared, I recognised him from his

photographs. I exclaimed: ‘Why, it is the

Duke of Clarence!’

“He replied: ‘No, not that. Call me Eddy.’

I then remembered a story I had heard to

the effect that, some few months before

his death, he had been to visit a clairvoyant

who had told him, amongst other things,

that ‘marriage for him spelt death.’

“‘So, the clairvoyant was right, my poor

boy,’ I said; ‘and marriage, for you, did spell

death.’

“He drew himself up, retreated a few

steps and exclaimed in a clear voice, so

as to be heard by everybody ‘No, Miss

Marryat, not death – life!’ Tell everybody it

spelt life – life.’”

Cecil Husk was examined by several

scientists including Sir William Barrett,

a prominent member of the Society for

Psychical Research, Sir William Crookes, a

future president of the SPR and Dr George

Wyld, a Scottish homeopathic physician.

The latter two were particularly

interested in an iron ring that Husk

always wore around his wrist. Its internal

circumference was 182.5mm and it had

been placed there by spirit guides. To

pass over his hand it would have had to be

194mm.

Asked about it in an interview for the

International Psychic Gazette in February

1916, he said: “I suppose I must have had

my arm tugged and pulled at by hundreds

of people . . . but there was no way of

moving it. I am very much thinner now than

I was, but it still cannot be taken off.

“The spirits said they would never allow

that particular ring to be removed, but

they have frequently put on and taken off

another iron ring, of precisely the same

size. That has been taken off in the light

and thrown on to the floor, with a whirl and

a spinning noise.”

The interview included an account

by his housekeeper, Miss Simpson of his

having dreamt of the sinking of the Titanic

in 1912 in real time. He was already ill and

awoke about three o’clock in the morning

dripping with perspiration.

She recalled: “He said that he had been

in the water; he had heard a band playing

rag-time music, and then all at once Nearer

my God to Thee. He had also seen Mr Stead

and spoken to him.”

(W.T. Stead, the crusading journalist and

Spiritualist who was lost with the ship, was

his friend. Husk had no idea that he was

aboard. Later that day, the newspapers

carried news of the sinking.)

Husk spent his declining years blind,

paralysed and bed-ridden. The Husk Fund

was set up by friends to pay his expenses.

He passed to the Higher Life in 1920.

CECIL HUSK was encouraged by his father to

develop his psychic gifts at a young age.

W.T. STEAD appeared to Cecil in a real-time dream

of the Titanic sinking. Later that day the news of

the disaster was announced.

SIR WILLIAM CROOKES was one of the scientists

that examined Cecil.

What is the “dark night of the soul?”

– Mrs R. Curtis, Wales

The Dark Night of the Soul is a

translation of the Spanish poem, Noche

oscura del alma by St John of the Cross

(1542-1591). He was a poet and mystic

philosopher.

The allegorical poem in eight stanzas

tells how on a dark night he crept out of his

house unseen. With no other light or guide

than “the one that burned in my heart” he

came to a secluded place.

There, someone was waiting – “him I

knew so well” – his lover and beloved, i.e.,

the soul with whom he was subsequently

joined in mystic union. Elsewhere, he wrote

of the soul: “It seems to be God Himself

and has the same characteristics as He”.

His was a journey of self-discovery

that sooner or later all of us must make.

The difference is that John was already an

enlightened being who purposely strove

for union with the soul.

For most, the physical, threedimensional world of illusion is so strong

that we remain unaware of our true

spiritual self. To discover it we must be

placed in a situation where all worldly

illusion is stripped away. We are left naked,

as it were, with only the light of the soul

to indicate our true spiritual nature and

purpose.

As we saw in a previous answer, the

modern Lightworker has to undergo this

spiritual awakening in order to discover

his or her true purpose in life. Even the

greatest spiritual masters had to pass

through the “dark night” in order to

discover their true mission.

The Master Jesus, for instance,

withdrew alone into the wilderness at the

beginning of his ministry. There, he was

presented with a choice. He could either

use his considerable powers to become the

kingly Messiah his people were expecting,

or he could renounce everything worldly

and become the medium for what his

friend John called the Logos, the Holy

Spirit.

Sometimes such a spiritual awakening

involves surrendering one’s physical life.

Passing through the ‘dark

night’ to discover your mission

When the fifteenth century French leader

and heroine Joan of Arc was captured

by the English, she was tried by the Holy

Inquisition for witchcraft.

Pronounced guilty she was sentenced

to be burned at the stake. She was told,

however, that if she confessed, she would

be spared that cruel death. Initially, she

did confess, but after a period of solitary

reflection she recanted.

She preferred going to the stake rather

than confessing to what she knew was

untrue. Eventually the Church proclaimed

her entirely innocent of the charges, and

she was canonised in 1920.

For most people the “dark night” is

not nearly so dramatic, but it can be

devastating none the less. Typically, your

friends abandon you, life seems unfair,

unjust and pointless; and the world, life

itself and perhaps even God seem to be

against you.

Only then, when you feel utterly

abandoned are you ready to surrender to

the light of the soul and experience that

mystic union.

The “dark night” is familiar throughout

history. Buddhists call it “falling into the

pit of the void.” Inayat Khan, the Sufi

philosopher wrote: “There can be no

rebirth without a dark night of the soul, a

total annihilation of all that you believed in

and thought that you were.”

Roberto Assagioli, the Italian

psychiatrist wrote that everyone has to

pass through the “dark night” until perfect

at last, he or she “enters into complete,

constant and inseparable communion with

the Spirit.”

Psychiatrist Dr Anna Yusim writes:

“Oftentimes, a ‘dark night of the soul’

is a necessary part of people’s spiritual

evolution.”

Author and life coach Shannon Kaiser

writes that the “dark night” is “a breaking

away from the illusions of fear and ego to

shift our alignment and values to what is

real and true, the connection to the divine,

and ultimately pave the way for your life

purpose and mission here on Earth.”

FOR most, the physical, three-dimensional world of illusion is so strong that we remain unaware of our

true spiritual self. To discover it we must be placed in a situation where all worldly illusion is stripped away.

“Write the history of Salisbury Hall and you write the history of

England.” – Diana Norman from “The Stately Ghosts of England.”

SALISBURY HALL, originally called

Shenley Hall ( pictured below), near

St Albans in Hertfordshire has a long

history. Roman relics have been found

in the grounds and during the ninth

century, the site was part of the Manor

of Shenleybury. It was held by Asgar the

Stallar, who is believed to have been a

high official to King Egbert of Wessex.

After 1066 and the Norman Conquest,

the land and manor house passed to

the de Mandeville family. In 1380 it

was held by Sir John Montague, later

Earl of Salisbury. At this time, the house

acquired the name, Salisbury Hall.

Around 1420, Alice – Countess of

Salisbury – married Sir Richard Neville,

who became Earl of Warwick. They had

two sons, Richard Neville (later known

as Warwick the Kingmaker) and John,

Marquis of Montagu, who both died at the

Battle of Barnetin April 1471. A new house

was built around 1507 by Sir John Cutte,

Treasurer to Henry VII and Henry VIII.

During the English Civil War, the Hall

was used by Charles I as a Royalist

headquarters.

In 1668 Salisbury Hall was bought

by James Hoare, a London banker.

He paid the vast sum of £7,100 and it

was believed that he had bought it on

behalf of King Charles II so he could

conduct his affair with Nell Gwyn away

from the prying eyes of the court.

The following year it was sold to Sir

Jeremy Snow, another banker, a relation

of Samuel Pepys and a friend of Charles

II. Snow extensively rebuilt the Hall and,

confirming the earlier suspicions, allowed

it to be used by the King to see Nell Gwyn,

who was given a cottage in the grounds.

The two lovers continued their affair

until the King’s death in 1685, with

Nell only surviving him by two years.

After this, the Hall changed hands

several times and in 1905 Lady Randolph

Churchill moved there. Her son, Winston

Churchill, was a regular visitor. He would

often retire to a tree house in the grounds

to write his speeches as he found his

mother’s social events too distracting.

Winston also found time to deal with a

fierce pike in the moat who was eating the

other fish and attacking any unsuspecting

ducks who made the mistake of choosing

the moat as their new home. Numerous

attempts to catch the beast had failed

so he borrowed a rifle and shot it.

In 1938 Sir Geoffrey de Havilland

bought Salisbury Hall to expand his

aviation business. The famous Mosquito

fighter-bomber was developed in the

grounds of the Hall, an aircraft which

went on to play a crucial part in winning

the air war over Europe for the Allies.

After the war ended, the Hall fell into

disrepair, and fears were raised about its

future. However, in 1955 it was bought by

Walter James Goldsmith, a painter and a

former Major in the Royal Marines, who

restored the building to its former glory.

I have many fond memories of visiting

Salisbury Hall as a child with my parents.

It was the 1970s and the Hall had been

open to the public for several years.

The nearby M25 had yet to be built, the

construction of which sadly destroyed the

rural beauty and isolation of the place.

I can remember a series of impressive

large stone portrait medallions in the

Crown Chamber. These depicted people

from the classical world including

Trajan, Julius Caesar, Cleopatra and

Marcus Aurelius. These were said to

have been brought to the Hall from

the nearby ruins of Sopwell Priory.

I also recall being led up the stairs

to a bedroom which was said to be

haunted. I found the whole experience

fascinating but was always disappointed

that the ghosts never appeared to me.

My mother felt the same way as she

also wanted to see a ghost! We would

gaze out of a window and look across

the lawn to the moat in the hope that a

phantom lady or ghostly Cavalier would

glide into view but, alas, it was not to be.

Salisbury Hall’s most famous ghost

is Nell Gwyn. She was said to have given

birth to Charles’ illegitimate son in the

cottage in the grounds of the Hall.

Nell, always a feisty young woman,

is said to have held the child out of the

window and threatened to drop him into

the moat if Charles declined to give him

a title. Charles, panic-stricken, is said to

have glanced at the tower of St Albans

Abbey a few miles to the north and replied,

“Pray spare the first Duke of St Albans.”

The cottage was to have another royal

connection several centuries later when it

was turned into a silk factory and provided

the silk for Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding

dress and coronation robe.

Nell has been seen on the stairs and

near the Green Bedroom. She has never

been seen in the bedroom itself, but Mr

Goldsmith often felt her presence there

and always regarded the room as being

haunted.

She also appeared in the oak-panelled

Crown Chamber downstairs. George

Cornwallis-West, the second husband of

Churchill’s mother, wrote of the encounter

in his book, Edwardian Hey-Days:

“One evening at Salisbury Hall just as it

was getting dusk, I came down the staircase

which leads into the old panelled room that

we used as a dining room, and there, standing

in a corner, I saw the figure of a youngish and

beautiful woman with a blue fichu round her

shoulders. She looked intently at me, and then

turned and disappeared through the door into

the passage. I followed and found nothing.”

The woman resembled his mother’s

former maid, Ellen Bryan, and he

became convinced that he had seen

the lady’s ghost. However, inquiries

soon proved that the maid was very

much alive and about to get married.

Cornwallis-West and his sister Daisy

were later looking at a print of Nell

Gwynne and both noticed how much Nell

and the maid looked alike. He then realised

that he must have seen the ghost of Nell.

Shortly after this, at the suggestion

of a member of the Society for Psychical

Research, a medium was given a letter

written by Cornwallis-West to see if they

could gather any impressions from it.

The medium said that the writer

had seen the ghost of Nell Gwyn “who

had come to warn him against an

impending danger.” Cornwallis-West

had no problems at the time but later

discovered that his solicitor had absconded

with over £10,000 of his money.

A woman’s laugh has often been

heard in the garden and many have

wondered if this is Nell too.

Walter Goldsmith also often felt a

“warm and friendly supernatural presence”

in his top floor studio where a bloodstain

had been said to appear from time to time.

In 1965 the actress Margaret

Rutherford, her husband Stringer

Davis and the clairvoyant Tom

Corbett visited the Hall during the

filming of a charming documentary

called The Stately Ghosts of England (the

documentary is available to view on

YouTube and is well worth a watch.)

Tom Corbett immediately felt Nell’s

presence in the Crown Chamber. However,

he said that she was finally reaching “her

state of rest” and would not be appearing

in the Hall for very much longer.

Corbett also picked up traces of a

man upstairs who had died in tragic

circumstances. Walter Goldsmith

explained that the man was a Cavalier.

He had fled back to the Hall after a

local skirmish and committed suicide,

fearing that he would be captured by

Parliamentarian troops and forced

to reveal military secrets – some

accounts even claim that the ghost of

the Cavalier sometimes appears with

a sword sticking out of his chest.

Mrs Goldsmith also revealed that she

had often heard footsteps walking by

her bedroom. They always went in one

direction and were never heard to return.

Tom Corbett asked if there had once

been another wing to the house and this

was confirmed by Walter Goldsmith

who said that it had been pulled down

in 1819. It appeared that the ghost of

the Cavalier had been walking towards

the now vanished Tudor wing.

Tom also revealed to the owners

that the Hall had a third ghostly

resident. This was a “warm-hearted”

lady who haunted the bridge over the

moat. However, Tom was unable to

tell them anything else about her.

The Cavalier was seen one summer

by Maria Goldsmith, another member of

the family. It was about 10.30pm and she

was in the old coach house when she saw

the ghost.

He was wearing a frilly white shirt

and dark knee breeches. He had silver

buckles on his shoes and his long fair hair

was tied in a ponytail. He looked very

serious but there was a hint of a smile

on his face as he stared at her. He then

began to look “like a faded photograph”

and vanished before her eyes.

The Cavalier was also seen by Lady

Gresley, wife of Sir Nigel Gresley, the

designer of the Pacific steam locomotives,

who lived at the Hall in the 1930s. She

was in her bedroom one night when the

ghostly figure of the Cavalier entered

the room. She was so terrified that she

vowed never to sleep in the room again.

Maria Goldsmith once slept in the room

above the porch. She described having “a

terrible feeling” as she entered it. She did

not want to stay there but all the other

bedrooms in the Hall had been taken.

There was a clock in the room which

usually chimed every hour, but this

had been stopped in case the chiming

disturbed her sleep. Around 2am Maria

was woken up by the clock ticking again.

The bed then began rocking backwards

and forwards for about three minutes.

She later spoke about her experience

in the room to her mother-in-law, who

showed Maria a book which told of a

governess having slept in the very same

room during the First World War.

She had seen “something terrifying”

come out of the wall during the night and

move towards the bed. The governess had

refused to sleep in the Hall after that.

A few years after the Goldsmiths

bought the Hall, they received a letter

from Mrs Rosamund Stutzel who had

lived there as a girl in the 1920s. She too

had slept in the room above the porch.

She had also felt something standing

by her bed. Her brother and sister also

witnessed “something terrifying” emerge

from the wall and stand by the bed. Walter

Goldsmith later discovered a blocked-up

doorway where the ghost had emerged.

It is recorded that Winston Churchill

slept in the room when staying at the

Hall. However, it is not known if he

witnessed any paranormal activity there.

Martin Oliver, a member of the nearby

de Havilland Aircraft Museum, was once

walking by the Hall with some colleagues.

It was evening and they all saw a staircase

light shining out from the Hall. They also

noticed a shadow by the window as if

someone was standing there. They later

discovered that the house was empty,

the Goldsmiths being away at the time.

The sound of a horse galloping over the

bridge was once heard by some American

tourists. Tradition states that the bridge

is haunted by the ghost of a messenger

who had ridden to the Hall during the time

of the War of the Roses, his horse dying

beneath him as he crossed the bridge.

Finally, previous occupants of Nell

Gwynn’s cottage often felt a presence on

the bridge, and poltergeist activity was

noted in the building when it was used as

an antique shop.

The Hall was sold in 1981 to a foreign

business. It was later converted into flats

and offices. Although a listed building, a

large extension was allowed to be built in

the grounds which further ruined the look

of this historic site. One can only wonder

in amazement why the Hall was not

bought for the nation and protected for

future generations to enjoy and explore.

And what of the ghosts? With all

the unwelcome changes to the Hall

over recent decades, I would not be

surprised if they have fled, never to return.

Salisbury Hall is no longer open

to the public, but the exterior can be

viewed from the de Havilland Aircraft

Museum which stands nearby. The

museum is open on a regular basis.

THE SPIRITUAL ART

OF MARTY REYNOLDS

MY JOURNEY connecting to Spirit

through painting has been an ongoing

learning experience. I have developed my

technique from just utilising my conscious

mind to technically paint realistic images

to using meditative breathing and

visualisations to open my chakras so that

Spirit can inspire my artwork.

I have progressed to the point where I

can sometimes become totally absorbed

into the painting by entering the timeless

realm of the heart and soul in which Spirit

can project images concerning a person’s

past, present and future into my mind.

Occasionally, these images appear in

the background paint which has been

splashed onto the canvas.

I first began painting when I was at

college in 1972. My early paintings were

of mundane objects like a typewriter

with rumpled paper next to a soda can

on a table. In these paintings I mentally

concentrated on the technical aspects of

perspective, proportions and colour. But

then, during the class, my grandfather

passed away and I became angry and ill.

I missed several weeks of lessons but

knew I needed to do another painting.

I decided to paint the Greek Sun God,

Apollo.

As I was painting, I noticed that

my anger started to dissipate. When I

returned to class the instructor held up my

painting for people to comment on what

they perceived in it.

I was astounded at the various

responses. Some people thought it was

just Apollo the Sun God, while others

saw it as a representation of pure energy,

anger, determination, urgency, power, a

great purpose and a journey to Earth for

various missions.

It was incredible to me that my painting

had the power to evoke such responses

and connections from individuals based on

their personal feelings, perspectives and

experiences.

But what really shocked me was when

I gave the painting to my grandmother

Marty Reynolds has two master’s degrees – one in behavioural studies

and the other in business. Her first job was working for a California State

university where she travelled to various universities in the United States

teaching human development for co-operative education while she was a

history instructor.

Later, she became employed by a major aerospace company where

she taught executive development and later transferred into system

engineering. While working there she also taught business courses at

West Coast University.

Marty started her path of spiritual learning by sitting in a

development circle for four years. The circle was led by Reverend John L

Brooker, a Spiritualist from England who had written three metaphysical

books.

Along her spiritual development path she founded New Age Learning,

in which she and other metaphysical speakers gave seminars and

workshops.  For many years she was a reverend in the Church of the

Universal Master.

After being in a car accident, she was forced to stop working full time

and became a support group leader for Benign Essential Blepharospasm

– a neurological disorder that causes spasms or twitching of the eyelid –

and now does dog therapy work.  She has published articles for the

International Service Dog Association and “Therapy Dog Magazine.”

Marty’s life has been full of spiritual occurrences and she had the

privilege of staying with Alex Phillips – representative of the Maoris to

the United Nations – at his healing centre in New Zealand.

She was also invited by Algonquin William Commanda, Chief of

First Nations, a representative to the United Nations, to attend a secret

Maniwiki ceremony at his home in Quebec, Canada.

Marty is a reiki master and had the privilege of studying with Ronald

Jue, who brought the Dali Lama to California. In addition she studied the

art of mandalas with Paul Heussenstamm.

For the last ten years she has studied Qigong under Grandmaster Yuanming  Zhang, and

continues learning with international medium Robert Brown. Here, she tells us about her

spiritual journey and shares some of her artwork with us.

every artist we show

and she refused to hang it on the wall. She

perceived it to be communicating that the

Angel of Death was coming to take her.

She did, however, pass away a few

months later. I did not paint again for 28

years.

Then, in the year 2000, I was in a car

accident that eventually landed me in the

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

At the conclusion of my treatments,

the director of pain management said

that I needed to develop some hobbies to

distract my mind from the constant pain

that I would be suffering for the rest of my

life. So one hobby I turned back to was art.

When I returned from the clinic I began

taking some classes from Dr Ronald Jue,

who wrote The Inner Edge, which had a

foreward by the Dalai Lama.

He taught me to live in the moment and

notice the essence of things around me.

For example, when I take a walk,

sometimes I now notice the height of

a tree, the texture of its bark and the

radiant energy that emanates from it. I

incorporate these observations into some

of my paintings, focusing on the luminous

energy of nature.

I began to consciously experiment with

light in my paintings. For instance, the

picture of Hawaii has the light beaming

forth from the Sun’s rays.

Regarding this painting, when my

husband and I were in Japan we visited

a very small but unique Buddhist temple

near Gamagori.

When I entered

the temple with a

local guide, I felt a

speechless awe.

The temple had

gorgeous spiritual

paintings on the

ceilings and walls.

It was like I had

stepped into a totally

encompassing other

realm – as if I was

at the entrance of

Heaven.

As I stood

motionless, feeling

the vibrations of the

paintings, the monk

who painted them

approached me and

asked, via the guide

who translated for

him, if I was also an

artist.

I showed him the

Hawaiian painting on

my cell phone and he

replied, “You, too, are

a painter of the Light

like I am.” I felt

so humble and

honoured by his

comments, his art was so exquisite.

Thereafter, I began experimenting

with backlighting a painting to illustrate

the light that shines from within everyone.

The parrot and the woman on the bridge

paintings illustrate these techniques.

However, it wasn’t until I met Paul

Heussenstamm that I began to connect to

the light within to open up the creative

essence of my soul and connection to

Spirit while painting.

Paul is a spiritual painter, mainly of

mandalas, who gives art seminars called

“Art as a Spiritual Path.” I first met Paul in

his home studio in Laguna Beach a year

after returning home from the Mayo

Clinic.

Paul generously let myself and several

other women help him paint borders on

some of his paintings. He felt that painting

would help my healing process, which it

did.

Eventually, I took several of his

seminars. In one, after Paul had completed

a group meditation, I decided that I would

paint Christ.

The first day went well when I was just

doing the background of the painting.

However, when I began to paint the face

and body of Christ, I began to experience

a wide array of dimensions and vibrations

that began to emanate out of the painting

and myself.

I experienced a stream of

consciousness and a parade of images

of humanity. Faces and bodies that were

sick, depressed, downtrodden, fatigued,

poor, blissful and happy flooded my mind.

I felt upliftment and compassion but also

the excruciating anguish of the suffering.

I was feeling the spiritual essence of the

painting.

I took the painting back to my room.

Each time I attempted to paint the face it

kept changing. I felt so utterly connected

and overwhelmed by the painting that I

could not go back to the seminar.

I became utterly fatigued and fell to the PARROT – an experiment with light.

AURAGRAPH – Spot the dragonfly at the very top, but what else

can you see in the painting?

bed with a pounding migraine. I felt I would

never finish the painting. I entered a deep

precinct of my soul and continued to feel a

strange uplifting agony.

A few days passed like this. However,

the day before the seminar was to end, the

migraine stopped and I tried to finish the

painting.

This time I was elevated above the

suffering and pain within the image and

my mind catapulted above the distress to

achieve a blissful peace and compassion.

Then, a synesthesia occurred within

me. The colours of the paint projected fast

or slow vibrations. Some colours, like the

blues and purples, had a lovely high-pitched

tone to them.

Finally, while I was painting Christ’s face,

it became peaceful. I learned, through that

painting, the connectivity of all living things

from the streaming images and feelings

evoked within me. The painting itself

began a transformational experience that

occurred in my body, mind and spirit.

I walked out onto the balcony after

basically completing the mandala of Christ,

vowing never to paint Him again. I thought

of the scripture from Psalm 142:4, “My

spirit is faint within me, but you know my

path.”

As I looked up into the night sky, I saw

the image of a cross, which I photographed.

The next day when I returned to the

seminar, Paul asked me why I had not been

painting with the group. I told him how

difficult it was for me to paint Christ, and

how I became ill and overwhelmed in the

process. He understood completely.

After several seminars I began saying

a prayer of protection before beginning a

painting. Next I began doing a meditation

with a short breathing exercise to open my

chakras so that Spirit can sometimes work

with me.

This is an exciting and rewarding

exercise that can help one to connect with

the universal energy.

Begin by inhaling some deep breaths

through the nose to the count of four.

Fill your abdomen with the energy that

surrounds you.

Hold your breath to the count of five or

seven, and then slowly exhale through the

mouth to the count of four.

Visualise each chakra colour and open

each one into a lotus flower, starting with

the root chakra and progressing to the

crown chakra.

Proceed slowly, but at at your own pace.

Feel each chakra becoming warm and

allow yourself to become one with the flow

of energy.

As I do this exercise, I lose track

of everything around me and enter a

trance-like state. I surrender to the

process occurring as I connect with Spirit.

Sometimes hours will pass.

During this state of being I sometimes

see images in my mind related to the

person that I am doing the painting for,

and occasionally symbols appear in the

background paint that is just splashed onto

the canvas.

One time, while doing a painting of a

Samurai warrior for a specific person, some

images appeared in the background paint. I

did not see these images until my son, Dale,

looked at the painting and pointed out

several images.

Dale said, “Mom, look, there’s a dragon

and Buddha in the paint.” I looked, and

sure enough there was a fire dragon and a

Buddha.

I was shocked because I had suggested

to the person I was painting for – who

was on a business trip to Montana – that

he might want to visit the garden of a

thousand Buddhas.

CHRIST MANDALA – The process of painting the face and body of Jesus caused Marty

considerable discomfort.

THIS is the photograph of the cross in the sky

that Marty took after completing the Christ

mandala.

After I completed the painting I found

out that he had visited the garden.

I then realised that this painting had

taken on a life of its own.

Before I knew it, there were the Qigong

elements of fire, water, earth, sky and

metal in it. Religious symbols abounded.

The Samurai became a spiritual warrior

fighting for peace and love among all

religions and people of this world with the

light from the Holy Spirit shining forth on

all.

In another painting I created for one of

my doctors, I consciously just wanted to

paint a caduceus in the centre of a dreamcatcher. However, in the background

paint and in my own mind I began seeing

symbols that related to the doctor’s past,

present and future.

Some of these images I put into the

painting and some just appeared in

the paint. The painting had become an

auragraph for the doctor.

Then Dale pointed out, “Mom, there’s a

dragonfly at the top of the wheel.”

I thought, “Oh, that’s terrible.”

However, when I researched

dragonflies I found out that in Asian

culture they are a symbol of good luck and

prosperity.

So I thought, “Well, if that is what is

supposed to be there, then I will leave

well enough alone and go with the

flow.”

I have discovered, through painting

and learning different techniques

such as doing a meditative exercise

before beginning a new piece, that this

process has led me to new spiritual

insights.

As I stumble along a spiritual path of

awakening, the paintings themselves

reveal hints of the mysteries of existence

which are in a realm beyond verbal

expression but can be communicated

through the art itself.

50 PSYCHIC NEWS | APRIL 2023

MY name is Robert Mason. I am a spiritual investigator and clairvoyant. After many years of

research, I reached a point where I had made significant discoveries concerning the meaning of

life and whether we have a soul.

I acquired knowledge concerning our true spiritual nature, and overwhelming evidence that

we each have a soul that is the “I am” or “Me” inside us.

My spiritual research enabled me to find true focus with a natural clairvoyant gift which

runs in my family. I have given over six thousand mediumship readings during the past twenty

years and am the author of twelve books.

Two of my recent books “Guardian Angel” and “Angels in my Life” are an account of how I

see and communicate with angels, especially guardian angels. The books describe how many

people can learn to sense the angels as they try to guide us towards a path of true happiness

and life fulfilment.

The following true accounts illustrate the way lives can be dramatically changed by a

mediumship reading to bring about a much brighter and positive future.

I was called to a home in Hull to give

several readings to a group of family and

friends. I met the people gathered in the

lounge. Then, one at a time, they came

through to the kitchen/diner to receive a

private reading from me.

Halfway through the evening I was

invited into a room to read for a lady in her

late sixties. The room this lady was sat in

was in between the lounge and kitchen.

It was reasonably big, decorated in the

flowery wallpaper that was popular in the

1970s (the year was 2006).

I noticed that there was no window in

the room, yet it was bright and clean. The

lady looked happy, but as I started to give

her a reading, I felt very much that her life

was on hold.

I immediately saw a man with her in

spirit form who I “knew” was her husband.

I told her this and she nodded to confirm.

Next, I was given a picture of a hospital

bed. The same man was laying there on a

life support system. A doctor was in this

scene, looking past me at the lady I was

with and asking her permission to switch

off the life support.

The doctor was telling her there was

nothing more the medical professionals

could do; her husband was technically

brain dead, but his body was being kept

alive by the machines.

I gently told the lady what I was seeing.

She remained calm and told me that her

husband had died six years earlier. She

explained how the doctor had indeed

asked for her permission to switch off the

life support. She couldn’t say yes, so went

for a walk around the local streets.

Upon returning to the ward, she told

me she was still unable to bring herself

to give permission. Then suddenly she

just came out with the words necessary,

giving permission for the life support to be

switched off.

The lady remained calm whilst she

told me all of this. She then became quite

emotional and said: “I murdered him. I

murdered him. I have locked myself away

in this room for the past six years. I haven’t

been out. I am looked after by my family,

but I won’t go out. I killed my husband.”

Her emotional outburst shocked me,

but only momentarily.

I was instantly taken back to the

hospital ward and had a bird’s-eye view of

the lady returning after her walk. I could

see and hear her asking for the doctor,

still undecided about what to do, when

suddenly her husband appeared, stood

alongside her in spirit whispering in her

ear: “Switch off the life support. I am okay,

I am free of my wrecked body. Please tell

him you give your permission, my love.”

The vision disappeared and I sat facing

this emotionally distraught lady in front

of me. I told her what I had just seen. I told

her that her husband had not really been

lying there in the hospital bed but was

stood alongside her in spirit form, asking

her to tell the doctor to switch off the life

support.

The clairvoyant visions then closed. The

lady slowly lifted her drooping head and

stared at me. Then a smile appeared.

“You couldn’t have known all of this,”

she said. “I now believe that my husband

still exists. I did the right thing. I made the

right decision.”

I was then ushered out of her room to

give another reading in the kitchen to a

friend who had been waiting. At the end

of the evening, I walked into the lounge

to say goodbye to everyone. The air of

excitement was electrifying.

A middle-aged lady who must have

been the daughter said: “Mum has told us

she is no longer grieving and is no longer

blaming herself for Dad’s death. She wants

to get her life going again. Her first request

is that I take her out shopping tomorrow.

“Thank you for what you have done.

You have no idea what a miracle it is to see

Mum wanting to live her life again.”

BROTHERLY REINCARNATION

Prior to leaving the house I had

given a reading to a young lady, around

twenty years of age, who was the lady’s

granddaughter. I gave her a psychic

reading concerning her current life issues,

which seemed to be of help to her.

She then asked me, “Can you see my

brother in spirit?” I had to admit that I

couldn’t see him, so I told her no and asked

about him.

“He died at the age of two, before I

was born,” she replied. I thanked her for

the information. Then suddenly my angel

guide told me, “She is her brother.”

I knew immediately what this meant

and told her: “You are the reincarnated

soul of your brother. You wanted to be

back with this family so much that you

chose the first opportunity to be born

again in a new life with your Earth mother.”

The young lady smiled and responded

that she could accept what I was telling

her. This revelation had brought the

answers she was struggling to find and

peace to her soul.

I said goodnight feeling very much

that something much bigger than me

was at work. I can’t perform miracles, but

overwhelmingly felt humbled to be a part

of something so life changing.

WRONGFULLY IMPRISONED

The following is the account of a psychic

reading that involved seeing the future for

a lady. Without her telling me anything

beforehand, I discovered in the reading

that her family were deeply troubled by

what had happened to their son.

During the reading I saw two outcomes

for their son, one good and one not so

good, so I focused on the good path. As I

spoke, the future changed to become the

better outcome.

The lady was aged around 40 years

old. She was obviously taking no care of

her herself and had greasy hair all over

the place and scruffy clothes. She seemed

depressed as she welcomed me into her

house and sat me down.

My first words to her were simply: “It’s

about justice – or rather an injustice. Your

son is in prison for an offence he didn’t

commit.”

The lady sitting in front of me

screamed. Her scream shook the house.

How her neighbours did not come

running in to see what had happened I do

not know. Her scream shook me with an

unexpected shudder of stress because I

am not the kind of guy who does anything

to make anyone scream!

I imagined some heavy-weight fighter

of a husband appearing and throwing me

out – but fortunately she had kicked him

out of the house for a couple of hours for

privacy during the reading.

What I told her was correct. I went on

to tell her that her son’s prison sentence

would be overturned, and he would be a

free man within four weeks.

Her scream was one of surprise at

how I could possibly know all of this. I

spent another hour with her, bringing

some clear messages from her deceased

mother.

She calmed down very quickly and

became more optimistic and much happier

over that hour, and the messages from

her mother appeared to be of great

meaning.

I left her with good wishes. Inside my

mind I was saying a quiet prayer for her and

her son.

A HAPPY ENDING

The lady’s sitting was in the city of Hull,

which I only visit a few times a year, and I

never go to the public houses there.

However, about a month later I was

back there and did call into a Hull pub with

some friends, but in a different area of the

city. Hull is a big place.

Within minutes an attractive lady came

running up to me and gave me a big hug

saying: “It’s him… it’s him…”

I couldn’t help but notice a rather tough

looking partner behind the lady appearing

quite angry at her behaviour.

“It’s okay,” she told him. “This is the

clairvoyant.” The partner changed his

mood, put a smile on his face and shook

my hand. “Our son is no longer in prison,

everything you said came true,” continued

the lady.

The fact that their son was now free

was good news, but the added miracle for

me was the transformation of this lady.

She had taken on a new zest for living,

pulled herself out of depression and

acquired a new interest in taking care of

herself. She had given herself a makeover

with her hair and clothes. With such a

dramatic improvement I didn’t recognise

her.

My friends in the pub had been staring

at what was happening in amazement.

One of my hobbies is singing, and we had

just performed a concert, so my fellow

singers in the pub knew nothing about my

clairvoyance work. I just tried to shoulderoff what had happened in a joking way.

This is the miracle of what clairvoyance

can offer. I have witnessed this miracle

many times as people take their lives off

“hold” and start living again.

I have found that psychically some of

the future can be seen. If it is unwelcome,

then future events or situations can be

changed or avoided.

52 PSYCHIC NEWS PSYCHIC NEWS | APRIL 2023 APRIL 2023

WE are told by scientists and activists that the principal cause of the

phenomenon commonly called global warming is the burning of fossil

fuels in cars, lorries, aeroplanes etc. It is also the case that there have, in

recent times, been seemingly more disasters due to seismic activity.

As Spiritualists, with our knowledge

of the spirit basis of all life, I suggest we

should consider an additional explanation

to the commonly accepted ones.

There is a popular misunderstanding

about Spiritualism that it is only about

contacting and receiving messages from

those individuals in the spirit world who

want to help us, or to prove to us that

they are still very much living and caring

individuals.

This is true of course, and many grieving

people have been hugely comforted by

such messages. Indeed, a lot of people

became Spiritualists as a consequence of

receiving such evidence.

It is mostly in English speaking countries

that Spiritualist churches exist, so the idea

that proof of survival beyond death has

a religious significance is not something

that occurs to all people. That does not

invalidate the idea of course. If accepting

truth depended upon widespread

acceptance, human understanding of life

and existence would still be in the Dark

Ages.

In the mid nineteenth century, many

thinkers and philosophers realised the

religious implications of mediumship and

they published their views. It is these great

thinkers, plus others from the spirit world

speaking through trance mediums, who

laid the foundations of our religion.

Unlike most leading religious beliefs,

Spiritualists make no claim that the only

sure way to heaven is by accepting its

beliefs and practices. All survive death,

but some, due to their strong conviction

that passing means annihilation, refuse to

accept what has happened to them after

death. Eventually though, all departed

spirits accept what has happened and then

continue the next phase of their lives.

The teachers and philosophers pointed

out that once one is convinced that life

is eternal, one’s attitude towards earthly

life cannot remain the same. The fact

of survival means life is not accidental;

intelligent design must be behind it.

Therefore, earthly life must be a

preparation for what is to come and how

we live our lives here is vital to our future.

Spiritualists accept all life is energised by

Spirit, even life we consider inanimate,

such as the Earth itself.

If Spirit provides the energy, mind

provides the direction. By mind we are not

referring to human mind alone, though our

minds do have an important role to play.

Understanding the power of

positive thought waves

By Lionel Owen

FEATURE

LIONEL OWEN: “If only each of us could cultivate the habit of sending out positive thoughts every day, we could bring about a revolution in life on Earth.”

There is universal mind too, a power we

refer to as God.

That power, that intelligence, guides the

whole of creation. Deathbed conversions

and vicarious atonement for sins also form

no part of Spiritualist philosophy. It is our

view that our experience in the afterlife is

determined by the quality of our lives here,

though allowance is made for individual

circumstances.

For instance, if one’s behaviour towards

others is affected by some physical disability,

it will have a much lesser negative effect

upon our soul than if we are perfectly

healthy yet still act badly towards others.

With regard to vicarious atonement,

our view is no one can assume the burden

of another’s sin. We accept that we are

each personally responsible for all our

actions but have endless opportunity to

atone for them and move on.

Some feel taking away vicarious

atonement cuts people adrift and they

lose their way. My own grandfather upon

becoming a Spiritualist cried out, “They

have taken away my saviour!”

He realised later, however, he felt

liberated once he accepted personal

responsibility. He realised vicarious

atonement was a false doctrine invented to

persuade people to adopt Christianity.

Though it is not easy to accept such

responsibility, neither is it too onerous

having to atone through giving personal

service to somebody one has harmed.

After all, carrying the weight of guilt,

even when it is repressed and shows in

hidden ways, is far from easy. Such guilt is

instantly assuaged once one truly atones.

Our role as individuals is to serve: to

serve one another and all other beings

sharing this planet with us.

The power and influence of mind cannot

be exaggerated, though most human

beings ignore it. The pernicious influence

of materialism and consumerism have

blunted human awareness of the true

meaning and purpose of life and led us to

deny the existence of the mind’s invisible

power. We pretend the mind is part of our

brain.

Materialism has undoubtedly

increased human greed and made us

far less sympathetic to the failings of

others, resulting in a succession of wars

and terrible atrocities in the name of

nationalism or in pursuit of a specific view

of life.

Intolerance is widespread and appears

to be getting worse. The spirit people tell

us that our behaviour and our selfish and

unworthy thoughts have surrounded Earth

with a dark pall of negative energy to pass

through, which causes them great pain.

Furthermore, it’s influence is extensive,

affecting even the Earth itself.

The oft quoted phrase, “It matters not

what I think as long as I do not act upon

those thoughts,” is shown to be completely

mistaken. Thought is much more powerful

than we imagine.

Whilst we may not act in furtherance of

certain thoughts, can we always be certain

somebody else hasn’t without realising

why? A thought once sent out, cannot be

recalled.

I believe acting as a result of another’s

thought could explain some previously

inexplicable actions that have resulted

in death or disaster. People in such cases

appear to act completely out of character.

It is the case that some people do not

possess strong minds and find themselves

very easily influenced by others. Thus,

when such people sense the presence of an

invisible thought-wave, they can easily act

upon it and not realise why they did so.

What is true of negative thought, is

equally true of positive thought. If only

each of us could cultivate the habit of

sending out positive thoughts every day,

we could bring about a revolution in life on

Earth.

If such things are true, it can surely be

argued that all this negative energy, if it

affects the very planet itself, must also

influence other things, such as the weather,

volcanoes and seismic activity.

That being the case, it is something

controllable once we all understand the

reality of thought waves. A determined

effort to change our ways of thinking and

discover how to dissolve the negative pall

surrounding the Earth by using the light

within us, could have a huge impact. It

could cause an enormous improvement in

our planet and the quality of our life here.

We need not be helpless in the face of

overwhelming odds but can be very much in

control of our environment. The choice is ours.

Do we sit, as Lizzie Doten wrote in her

poem God of the Granite and the Rose, “with

folded hands and fettered will,” or do we

use our minds constructively and undo

centuries of wrong thinking for the sake of

our children?

54 PSYCHIC NEWS | APRIL 2023

Over the decades, hundreds of people visited the Hannen Swaffer home circle

to receive counsel and advice from Silver Birch. His medium was Maurice

Barbanell, who founded “Psychic News.”

Never once did Silver Birch show impatience or annoyance or judge those

who consulted him. Apart from his knowledge, kindness and compassion,

another particularly noteworthy aspect was the beautiful way in which Silver

Birch expressed himself.

Here, Silver Birch gives a spirit

world view of the animal kingdom.

The first point he answers is “Do you

believe that vivisection can be right

when it is undertaken with a good

motive?”

NO. How can that which is cruel be right?

How can that which causes pain, which

inflicts torture, be right? It is contrary to all

that we teach. It is wrong to experiment on

those who are not capable of resisting.

I would say that you can help people

through vivisection, but it is not right to

do so because it is contrary to everything

spiritual to inflict cruelty and suffering

on creatures who have done nothing to

deserve it.

Man is responsible for what he does. His

motive may be good in many cases and that

will affect his spiritual development. That is

how the law works.

It is not part of the divine plan that the

children of the Great Spirit should become

healthy through exploitation and cruelty to

the animals in your world.

This is where doctors have taken the

wrong path. They justify themselves by

saying that man is more important than

the animal. Therefore he has the right

to improve his health and wellbeing by

experimenting on these creatures. But that

is wrong.

The law is co-operation. Responsibility

should engender mercy and compassion.

You cannot exploit others without you

suffering as a consequence.

Cruelty is bad for the one who performs

the cruelty. When you manifest love, you

are the better for it. When you manifest

hatred, you are the worse for it. This is how

the natural law works.

It is right to strive to lessen the cruelty

inflicted on animals, to show there is a

better way, a way of mercy, and by teaching

people how to order their lives aright, to

live in harmony with the natural law, they

will become well, healthy and radiant.

What is spiritually wrong can never be

condoned, but in an imperfect world there

will always be abuses and excesses.

You must fight to promote the welfare

of all who should dwell together in amity,

peace, concord and love. For love is the

fulfilling of the law. You cannot have love if

Spirit guide condemns

vivisection

you wreak cruelty on others.

Why are some animals naturally cruel to one

another? A cat will play with a mouse for

hours. A fox will kill all the hens in a coop.

Should this question not be addressed

to the Great Spirit? It is the law of

evolution at work. The law of evolution is

development from the lower to the higher.

It is the law of polarity in action.

Just as you can have excessive cruelty

you can also have excessive kindness. It

is the gradual development of the animal

through its evolution and the human

through his evolution.

If the reason for life is to learn love and

compassion, why does nature set such a

bad example by allowing predators?

Nature does not set anyone a bad

example. Nature is an expression of the

Great Spirit. The Great Spirit is perfect.

The laws of the Great Spirit are perfect.

Nature left to its own devices will

always achieve the right balance and

harmony. If man lived in harmony with

nature your world would be a paradise, a

kingdom of heaven.

There are predators, but that is part

of the way nature ensures the survival of

the fittest. Yet that is only one aspect of

natural law at work. The essence of nature

is co-operation. Nature is symbiotic.

You, for example, are a gardener. If you

prepare your garden and co-operate with

SILVER BIRCH: “How can that which is cruel be

right?”

P:55

they play in the whole process.

The law of cause and effect is

immutable. Whatever is must be the result

of what was. The animal is an essential part

of the evolutionary plan, just like the tree,

the ocean and everything in nature.

The link is in the unifying spirit. All life is

one. You have a relationship not only with

animals, but with all wherever there is life.

They will follow their preordained paths.

The extent to which they develop is

governed by that part of the law which

applies to them as it applies to a flower, a

tree, a bird, to the beasts of the field or to a

human being.

Can an animal therefore break its own law?

Only in the sense that you contravene

a law, but it will operate just the same. You

can transgress, but you cannot break the

law in the sense of preventing effect from

following cause. You can only kick over the

traces.

Could an animal ever do anything for which

it can be blamed spiritually?

Yes, if it transgressed the operation of

the natural law. There are rogue animals

just as there are rogue human beings.

It has been said that when an animal dies

it returns to a group soul. However, there is

considerable evidence for animals surviving

death. Can you enlighten us on this apparent

paradox?

There is individual survival for domestic

animals that have had association with

humans. Thus they have been helped to

achieve an individual evolution that is not

possible with animals who are still in a

group soul, or soul group, even on earth.

It is part of the wonderful relationship

that can exist between humans and

animals, each helping the other to develop

spiritually.

You help the animal that comes into your

surroundings to achieve a consciousness

that is more personal and individual than it

otherwise would have been.

It is that which survives death. But

where there is not this more evolved

“human” expression, it joins the soul group

or group soul.

Would an animal reincarnate?

No, though there is a theory about the

transmigration of souls.

Is the intention that animals shall gain

individuality in association with human

beings, that all animals shall have

consciousness in their own right?

Yes, as man radiates love in his thinking

and his actions towards all the animals, then

in return they will radiate love and, as it says

in your Bible about the wolf and the lamb,

man will lie down with them at the same time.

In order to sustain life, man has no

alternative but to take plant life, filch fowls’

eggs and cows’ milk or, more savagely,

slaughter animals.

How can such robber sustenance be

reconciled with an all-beneficent Creator

without offence to that reason which

you, often enough, have bidden us not to

disregard?

Do not blame the Creator because you

kill animals. The choice is yours. You do

not have to kill them, but in any case the

answer is very simple.

Your evolution will decide for you what

you should do in these matters. If you have

any doubts, your conscience will give its

added answer.

You are responsible for what you

do, and all your actions will affect your

spiritual nature.

An added factor is your motive. If

your motive is clearly good and you have

to kill, then that obviously produces an

ameliorative result in your development.

You cannot cheat the spiritual laws

because they are based on cause and

effect, reaping and sowing. Everything

you do, think and say has an automatic,

inflexible result; no cheating is possible.

If you do wrong consciously, then you

are responsible for it. Your shoulders must

bear the burden that results.

If you do good because you desire to

do so not for vanity’s sake, because the

motive then is poor, but because your soul

desires to serve, then by the very fact of

that happening you must be spiritually

better for it. This is the law that will always

operate.

I have always said that it is preferable

not to be involved in consuming food that

bears the mark of Cain upon it. Killing is

wrong, though sometimes motive must of

necessity be taken into account.

Those who desire spiritual mastery

must be prepared to pay the price and live

in harmony with the natural laws of the

universe.

These are spiritual in origin. The aspects

of the spirit are always the same – love,

compassion, tolerance, sympathy and

co-operation.

If you follow these principles, you will

find that you are being led to eat aright, to

drink aright and to live aright. But yours is

the responsibility for deciding because the

Great Spirit has endowed you with the gift

of free will.

nature, the results are beautiful. Man is

the predator, the greatest destructive

creature that has been known for many

millions of years.

Is it wrong to spray with insecticides to try to

prevent malaria, etc?

Of course you must have respect for all

life, but this is a question of motive and of

degree.

If you have conditions where, due

to certain circumstances, there are the

kind of insects that cause disease, then

your motive in using sprays is a good one.

Respect for life must be tempered with the

necessity of ensuring there are conditions

in which it can flourish.

Similarly, if you have houses infested

with bugs, it is easier to spray and get rid

of them if your motive is to improve the

health of those who dwell there.

If an animal develops human qualities, such

as noble sentiments and intelligence, will

it remain an animal without any chance of

further evolution or may it in time step into

the human realm?

Evolution is part of a natural law. It has

a main stream and many tributaries, but all

are part of the same law.

The spirit within you is in essence the

same spirit within the animal. There is no

difference in essence, but only in degree.

Potentially, being infinite the spirit can

achieve the tremendous expression latent

in man or animal, but spiritually it is all of

one path.

Who is to determine where spirit has

branched off to be expressed through an

animal as distinct from branching off to be

expressed through man? I do not see the

problem there at all.

Does an animal evolve in a similar way to

man?

It follows its own path of evolution. It is

part of the same pattern which is behind

all evolution; it is development.

If I say to you, “Do all children evolve

in the same way as their parents?” the

answer is “Yes” and “No.” They have

a predestined pattern which they

must follow, but within that there is a

certain amount of free will regulated

by the awareness reached at stages of

unfoldment.

Everything which has spirit is capable

of infinite development… Animals follow

their line of evolution according to the part

LIFE IS AN ILLUSION

Loving messages from Beyond

By Dennis Jackson

& Alice Best Jackson

RRP UK £16.50 US $19.99

300 pages

Illusion brings forth valuable

spiritual information that will touch

toughest questions from sceptics,

portray their findings in a manner

that is warm and compassionate,

and debunk many of life’s

unanswered questions.

“In this book readers will gain a clear understanding of the

following topics:

• Free will – it’s not a matter of if we have it, it’s a matter of

when we use it

• Why “bad” things happen to good people

• How mediumship readings help people heal and move

through the grief process

• Love versus fear-based choices and decisions

• Why some children cross over before their parents

• How and why to surrender to the flow of life

“Dennis and Alice present their readers with vignettes that

include personal and convincing details from their decades of

readings.

“They answer perplexing questions for those who are both

familiar with or new to receiving messages from Beyond. Equally

important, they tap into our innate desire and ability to live life in a

NEAR DEATH LESSONS

A dream. A terminal illness. An

extraordinary life gained from

eight near-death experiences

By Chris Jankulovski

RRP UK £20.56 US $24.97

228 pages

The publisher writes: “Everyone

faces adversity in life; it’s an

inevitable part of the human

experience. But what separates the

people who persist, survive, even

thrive through challenges, from

others whose obstacles stop them

in their tracks?

“Chris Jankulovski is no stranger

to uncertainty – he’s been living

with it from the moment he received a diagnosis of Von Hippel

Lindau (VHL) Syndrome at the age of nineteen.

“For a time, he allowed this diagnosis to get the best of him –

finding comfort in bad company and habits, and in the idea that

there was no point in having dreams, as he would not live long

enough to make them a reality.

“That was until a series of near-death experiences triggered a

profound personal transformation and finally led Chris to create

the life of his dreams. He embarked on an incredible journey of

healing that turned his life around from despair to happiness,

success, love and finding profound joy in life.

“The adversities he faced along the way humbled, tested

and ultimately provided him with the perspective to see life’s

challenges in an entirely new way.

“Chris is committed to sharing his story to show others that

even at their lowest, they can dare to hope that the best is yet to

come.

“The lessons he shares will inspire, challenge and empower you.

They are your roadmap to guide you, with a companion who has

been where you are and not only survived but learned to thrive.”

PSYCHIC BLESSINGS

“After a turbulent childhood

with a violent father and a mother

who constantly warned her to

hide her strange powers for fear

of being labelled ‘crazy,’ she could

now relax and use her psychic gift

openly. Yet as her fame spread and

desperate people from around the

globe began to beg for her help,

she found herself suddenly thrust into a world of brutal murders,

sinister disappearances, spooky events and personal heartbreak.

“Once again she had to fight back, with only the invisible

presence of her brave great grandfather in spirit at her shoulder,

constantly urging her on. And along the way, just as he promised, a

miracle happened.

“Diane found love again and to her amazement she discovered

her powers were actually increasing. Diane’s new life was only just

‘BILLY’ HOPE: PSYCHIC

PHOTOGRAPHER

‘EXTRA’-ORDINAIRE!

By Ann Harrison

RRP UK £14.99 US $25.11

356 pages

The publisher writes: “‘Billy’ Hope

is probably the best-known psychic

(Spirit) photographer ever. People

travelled from across the world

to sit with him and Mrs Buxton,

otherwise known as the ‘Crewe

Circle.’ Yet there has never been a

book about him.

“There are snippets in several

in Spirit. So – here it is.

“Although accused of fraud several times, no case against him

was proved. In 1922 Harry Price attempted to prove ‘Billy’ Hope

was fraudulently placing images on the photographic plates, and

the mud has stuck, so that many today still believe it to be so. Now,

100 years later, is the time to set it straight.

“Working from journals and books of the time, important

verbatim reports have been brought together in this book,

together with many photographs and images from those reports.

“Scientists, professional photographers, journalists, churchmen,

lawyers and sceptical researchers all made an effort to test him for

themselves.

“Highly esteemed by many people of standing, they worked

frequently at the British College for Psychic Science in London

over a period of ten years, and travelled throughout the British

Isles, from Glasgow to Eastbourne, from Belfast to Norwich, never

charging a fee for their work in almost twenty years.”

THE OTHER SIDE

A journey into women, art and

the spirit world

By Jennifer Higgie

RRP UK £22.00 US $28.39

320 pages (Hardcover)

The publisher writes: “It’s not so

long ago that a woman’s expressed

interest in other realms would

have ruined her reputation, or even

killed her. And yet Spiritualism, in

various incarnations, has influenced

numerous men – including lauded

modernist artists such as Wassily

Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, Kazimir

Malevich and Paul Klee – without

repercussion.

“The fact that so many radical women artists of their generation

– and earlier – also drank deeply from the same spiritual well has

for too long been sorely neglected.

In The Other Side, we explore the lives and work of a group of

extraordinary women, from the twelfth-century mystic, composer

and artist Hildegard of Bingen to the nineteenth-century English

Spiritualist Georgiana Houghton, whose paintings swirl like a

cosmic Jackson Pollock.

As well as the early twentieth-century Swedish artist, Hilma

af Klint, who painted with the help of her spirit guides and whose

recent exhibition at New York’s Guggenheim broke all attendance

records; the ‘Desert Transcendentalist,’ Agnes Pelton, who painted

her visions beneath the vast skies of California; the Swiss healer,

Emma Kunz, who used geometric drawings to treat her patients;

and the British surrealist and occultist, Ithell Colquhoun, whose

estate of more than 5,000 works recently entered the Tate Gallery

collection.

“While the individual work of these artists is unique, the women

loosely shared the same goal: to communicate with, and learn

from, other dimensions.

“Weaving in and out of these myriad lives, sharing her own

memories of otherworldly experiences, Jennifer Higgie discusses

the solace of ritual, the gender exclusions of art history, the

contemporary relevance of myth, the boom in alternative ways

of understanding the world and the impact of Spiritualism on

feminism and contemporary art.

“A radical reappraisal of a marginalised group of artists, The

Other Side is an intoxicating blend of memoir, biography and art

history.”

THE MEDIUM DISCOURSE

RED CLOUD’S INNER

TEACHINGS

By Brandon J. Kim

RRP UK £14.39 US $19.95

710 pages

The publisher writes: “Estelle

Roberts’ spirit control Red Cloud

provides his inner teachings on

various subject matters such as

Atlantis, the many spheres of the

spiritual world, the many different

laws of God and even the twelve

disciples of Jesus.

“These classroom-style teachings

give readers the feeling that they

took part in these courses themselves.

“Time is of no importance for the world of spirit, and these

wise words of wisdom still remain incredibly valuable today to

those seeking the truth and their inner light.”

SOUL REVELATION

ORACLE DECK

By Chris Aldous

£25 plus postage

Only available from:

www.etsy.com

The publisher writes: “This deck

contains 50 cards, channelled from

Spirit by medium Chris Aldous over

a period of four weeks.

“Each card’s artwork was hand

designed and illustrated by Chris

on A3 black paper using metallic

pencils, before being scanned and

professionally printed in the UK

onto 340g coated card stock with

rounded corners.

“This first edition of the Soul Revelation Oracle Deck is presented

in a tuck box with leaflet guide.

“The cards themselves are very powerful and get straight to

the heart of any matter. They are very intuitive, easy to read and

are fantastic healing cards. They are great for psychic and spiritual

readings, philosophy and teachings.”
