The ACOTAR book series is deeply adored by its fans, being one of the most well-known series in the world. Following the story of a mortal girl who is thrown into the world of magic, violence, and fae, the Sarah J. Maas series has specifically gained this much attention thanks to its characters. The author has a reputation for creating deeply immersive worlds with excellently written characters, and A Court of Thorns and Roses is no different in this, having not only relatable protagonists but swoon-worthy love interests.

It is because of this, that fans were extremely excited when it was announced that this series would be getting a live-action adaptation on Hulu. The news was announced early in 2021, and fans have been desperately waiting for some sort of update ever since. Unfortunately, the update that the series has received would be deeply disappointing for fans.

Has The Hulu ACOTAR Series Been Scrapped?

It was recently announced by multiple sources that the highly-anticipated live-action adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses has been scrapped. What makes this all the worse is that the streamer, Hulu, is not currently shopping the potential series to other outlets. This means that the likeness of the series getting developed elsewhere is slim.

While this news has taken over the internet, Variety reported something entirely different. Their sources have suggested that the show based on the Sarah J. Maas series has not been scrapped and is still in development at Hulu. Unfortunately, that is the only place where the news gets better as they were also told that it is no longer in ‘active development’.

What this means is that there is no clear confirmation of whether the series will be made or not at Hulu. If the Television broadcaster decides to let the ACOTAR series go, Maas could simply go elsewhere if given the opportunity.

ACOTAR Fans Have Mixed Reactions

Despite the fact that news around the future of the ACOTAR series is confusing and coming from many different sources, fans are having some very strong reactions to the entire situation. It would seem that the entire fandom has split into two; fans who are sad that the show could have been cancelled, and those who are happy about it. Those in the former category are outraged, upset that something as highly anticipated as this is not being made.

Those who were happy about this news were glad for many reasons. Some pointed out how it would have been very easy to ruin something as beloved as this series. On fan pointed out that rather than creating something live-action, they could try to make something animated, or like an anime, on a platform like Netflix.

Some pointed out the fact that casting for this series would have been extremely difficult, as many believe it to be impossible to embody the essence of characters like Rhysand, Azriel, and Cassian. Some even believe that Hulu would not have been the right platform to make this film, and an adaption as high profile as this needed a streamer like Amazon Prime Video or HBO.
