Farandola - dance in the meter 6/8, from Provence. His music is played on a special, one-handed flute and a tambourine. Known at the end of the Middle Ages, danced in groups, in the form of a parade. This dance is similar to gigantea, gigue and tarantella. The Karmaniola of the Great French Revolution is a derivative of the farandola. The most famous examples of the use of farandols in music are the cheerful dance in Arlesian Georges Bizet for Alphonse Daudet and in the ballet Sleeping Beauty by Piotr Tchaikovsky, where the dance begins the second act.
