Inspiration

As athletes and teammates ourselves, we recognize that people have difficulties finding members for their program or, on the flipside, programs to join. We would like to eliminate this problem. We do not want anybody to be forced to do team events solo because they cannot find a team. We do not want teams and events to fail because they cannot find all interested members. Our aim is to bridge the gap between recruiters and players.

What it does

Our application is a sports scouting and recruiting service, geared towards community/recreational sports. It allows players to create an account, and by doing so, registering themselves to join a team. It’s as simple as that! When they create this account, we mint an NFT containing player metadata including the name of the player, the team the player is currently on, and some basic stats. Agents, coaches, owners, and teammates can view all of the NFT data to recruit other players to their team.

How we built it

Using our experience in android studio, we designed a user friendly and highly functional interface. We used firebase to authenticate new players into our system. Alongside this, we used Verbwire’s powerful API to mint and NFT from the data. When recruiters log onto the app, the app searches the wallet of a common recipient address to find all player NFT tokens. The API is queried for a third time to read the data of each NFT.

Challenges we ran into

The bulk of our challenges were run into during our implementation of Verbwire. We believe that Verbwire has made blockchain accessible to a wide audience of developers, but it still took quite a bit of getting used to to set up. The limited number of API calls that were allowed made it difficult to test our app. We ran into many authentication issues too.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of the implementation of Verbwire. None of us had real experience with blockchain and we are really happy that we learned something new. In addition, we believe we created an intuitive user experience. The user is always directed to where they should be, or where they can go. Finally, we’re proud of ourselves for coming up with such a robust and powerful solution for this common problem.

What we learned

We learned a lot about blockchain technology and how we can use it in creative ways. It’s really interesting and powerful, and something that we see ourselves exploring in the future. We learned how to mint NFTs, and get metadata, among many other things.

What's next for Scorts

We would like to expand to include other sports. Right now, our application is focused on just cricket, but we envision this application to be used in all kinds of sports. Additionally, we would like to extend our app to manage other aspects of sports as well. We can use blockchain in order to organize full leagues, and store game data. Our application will be able to host a sports tournament, from the inception of teams, to the awarding of prizes. We may also look into monetizing our product, by accepting commission from large organizations. Overall, in the future we would like to scale up our application exponentially, and is something we see ourselves doing in the coming weeks.
