Awards

91 points, Matt Kettmann, Wine Enthusiast

"Subtle aromas of peach and citrus peel are clean and delicate on the nose of this bottling. There’s a firm, chalky texture on the sip, where stone fruit and citrus cream flavors are generous yet still fresh and vibrant."

Product Notes

An Ode to Our Albariño

"The old man used to tell me that the sea was where you should go when you have somewhere else to be, as a reminder to yourself to never allow the demands of life to become your life. For him, a day by the sea was a reminder that the world wouldn't stop turning if he said "no" to life's pesky "obligations" that he desperately didn't want to attend, but felt he must. In this way, the sea taught him how to say "no". This was his meditation, for as long as I can remember, a meditation made obvious by his appearance. The old man had a mouthful of surprisingly white teeth that contrasted well against skin drawn dark from many afternoons spent basking in the sun; and his face was festooned with deep lines, artifacts, of many days smiling, joking and living well. When this smiling face was missing from a place where it was expected, after some searching, I'd eventually find him nestled in his favorite spot by the sea, watching the sun setting with his blackened feet lazily buried beneath cool, wet sand; sipping from a bottle of Albariño in his leathery hands, the sand-colored wine disappearing slowly and then all at once, with the rising of the tide."

Production Notes

The SLO Coast is Home to Our Albariño

The San Luis Obispo Coast, or SLO Coast, is an "ultra-coastal" wine region. It’s not just on the Central Coast, but on the most coastal part of it, making it the closest wine region to the ocean in California. This proximity to the Pacific Ocean makes it California's coolest wine-growing region. The ocean's influence creates a long growing season, allowing the fruit to ripen to full flavor while preserving acidity. This is what makes the SLO Coast ideal for growing aromatic, vibrant white varietals such as Albariño. “Albarino is well-suited to maritime climates such as the San Luis Obispo Coast. Its cool climate, with close proximity to the ocean, preserves the intense tropical aromatics that Albariño is best known for.” - Jeremy Leffert, Winemaker, Croma Vera Albariño is a white grape indigenous to Rías Baixas, a coastal wine region in Galicia in the northwest of Spain. It also happens to grow remarkably well in the San Luis Obispo Coast AVA. It produces an aromatic white wine with great acidity making it a lively, crisp wine that is food-friendly, and pairs particularly well with seafood.
