Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration has received 12 more games through its first free holiday content update. The new additions to this amazing collection include prototypes, homebrews, and official titles.
The Anniversary Celebration allows players to experience 50 years of gaming history, featuring over 100 classic games and six brand-new titles created by the talented team at Digital Eclipse.
Upon its release late last year, the exploration of Atari's 50-year legacy received widespread praise.
It combined in-depth interviews with designers, developers, and other influential industry figures with archival materials like documentary clips, design papers, and original artwork.
The new games that have been added to the specially-curated list include:
Adventure II (homebrew) – 2600
Adventure II is a homebrew game inspired by the original Adventure for the Atari 2600. It features new mazes to explore, 22 game variations, and some returning gameplay elements from the classic Adventure.
Bowling – 2600
Bowling was released in 1979 by Atari and programmed by Larry Kaplan, who later co-founded Activision. The game features six variations of bowling, with different options for steering the ball and the ability to play in co-op mode.
Double Dunk – 2600
Double Dunk is a basketball video game developed by Atari and released in 1989 for the Atari 2600 console. It is a simulation of two-on-two, half-court basketball, with various options and plays to choose from.
Maze Craze – 2600
Maze Craze was developed by Rick Maurer and published by Atari in 1980. The game allows two players to compete in escaping a randomly generated maze, with various options and obstacles to make the game more challenging.
Miniature Golf – 2600
Miniature Golf, released in 1978 for the Atari 2600, has nine playable holes, each with different obstacles and par scores. The player's goal is to hit the ball into the cup with as few strokes as possible.
MotoRodeo – 2600
MotoRodeo is a racing and driving game that features arcade-style truck challenges. The game has two modes: solo and head-to-head, where the player can compete against another player or the computer.
Aquaventure (prototype) – 2600
Aquaventure was an unreleased game for the Atari 2600 console that was completed by Atari in the early 1980s but canceled for unknown reasons. The game is a colorful and challenging undersea adventure where the player has to dive for treasure while avoiding or shooting hostile sea creatures.
Save Mary (prototype) – 2600
Save Mary is another unreleased Atari 2600 game that Tod Frye developed in the early 1980s. The game involves using a crane to lower blocks and create a platform for Mary, who is trapped in a flooded canyon
Super Football – 2600
Super Football was released in 1988 by Atari. It features two teams of 11 players each and allows the player to choose from different formations and plays.
Return to Haunted House (homebrew) – 2600
Return to Haunted House is an unofficial sequel to the classic Atari 2600 game Haunted House. It was developed by Tony Wong and released in 2005 as part of the Atari Flashback 2 console.
Circus Atari – 2600
Circus Atari was released in 1980 and is a re-themed variant of Atari's Breakout, where the player controls a seesaw and a clown to pop balloons at the top of the screen.
Warbirds – Lynx
Warbirds is a first-person combat flight simulation game for the Atari Lynx, released in 1991. It lets the player control a biplane and engage in dogfights with enemy pilots in various scenarios.
