Summary[edit]

Description
English: Enterobacter cloacae on MacConkey agar, showing an unclear result: lactose-positive colonies are colored pink to red, according to literature, Enterobacter cloacae is lactose-positive (the microorganism has the ability to degrade lactose, which is detected by the pH indicator neutral red). This is hard to notice on MacConkey agar, the colonies are colored light pink, compared to lactose-negative bacteria as Proteus or Cosenzaea. More suitable are growth media with artificial substrates, which can be degrated by the Enzyme β-D-Galactosidase, as Salmon-GAL oder ONPG.
