Artist Bio

Jean Arp was a German-French sculptor, painter, and poet. He worked primarily as an abstract artist, experimenting with different techniques and media. Many of his pieces focus on shape and form thus his flat works usual still contain three-dimensional elements and shapes that hint at movement.

Arp primarily aligned himself with Surrealism and briefly dabbled with the Dada movement before breaking off to form his own movement aimed at counteracting surrealism called Abstraction-Création.
