Abel N. Montalvo, Sr.

October 6, 1937 - November 14, 2023

Abel N. Montalvo, Sr., 86, of Nederland, died Tuesday, November 14, 2023. He was born October 6, 1937, in Port Arthur, to Ruth and Mauricio Montalvo.

Abel retired from Motiva after twenty-eight years of service as a pipefitter. He enjoyed woodworking in his shop. He will also be remembered for his incredible sense of humor and storytelling. He will forever remain a loving, husband, father, and pawpaw.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Emma Montalvo, of Nederland; son, Abel Montalvo, Jr., of Nederland; daughters, Elizabeth Sandifer and her husband, Mark, of Frisco, and Debra Swaim and her husband, James, of Frisco; grandsons, Austin Sandifer and Joshua Swaim; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of loving relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mauricio, Eloy, and Frank Montalvo; and sisters, Norma Maldonado, Irene, and Ruth Montalvo.

A gathering of Mr. Montalvo’s friends and family will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a Rosary recited at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m., Friday, November 17, 2023, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Ave, Nederland, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His committal will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
