Celebrating Love Your Zoo 2023!

Posted: 31st May, 2023

Zoos and aquariums represent so much more than just a great day out.

That’s why we organise and celebrate Love Your Zoo / Love Your Aquarium week, an annual event to raise awareness for all the fantastic work done by zoos across Britain and Ireland, from 29 May to 3 June.

This community of zoos and aquariums are committed to exemplary animal care, conservation, and education, every day.

From spending over £28 million on conservation, to providing well over 922,000 educational visits, the benefits from BIAZA zoos/aquariums are huge and far-reaching. Thanks to zoos and aquariums, habitats like seagrass and wildflower meadows are being restored. Critically Endangered animals like partula snails and scimitar-horned oryx are being saved from the brink of extinction, with so much more vital conservation work being undertaken by zoos and aquariums both across the British Isles and around the globe.

BIAZA zoos and aquariums are also helping us uncover the secrets of animals, undertaking 1,339 research projects last year, which helps inform how best to conserve wild populations under threat*.

Dr Jo Judge, CEO of BIAZA, said, “Every year, it’s great to see how our members celebrate Love Your Zoo. After the disruption of Covid we’re pleased to see so much support towards zoos, helping them get thoroughly back on track to saving nature.”

Check out what a number of zoo and aquarium staff had to say about Love Your Zoo on our Youtube Channel.

This year’s theme for Love Your Zoo is around the bespoke nature of the work of good zoos do which cannot be achieved elsewhere, AKA ‘Zoonique.’

With the support of visitors, zoos and aquariums are able to continue this work for the benefit of all nature, both at home and worldwide.

You can join the celebrations by visiting and supporting a BIAZA member, and using the hashtag #LoveYourZoo or #LoveYourAquarium on your social media posts to spread the positivity far and wide.
