Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? I live in a world of ideas. Ideas, I believe, are the ultimate form of wealth, the magical “capital” that animates all human enterprises. Writing, and hanging out with writers, gives me a way to enrich my own thinking, and possibly to contribute ideas that may have lasting value for others.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? 1. Keep control of your time. I’m not married, and I don’t have a TV. 2. Write about what you love. Have something worthwhile to say. 3. When writing nonfiction, as I do, have a plan. 4. Know what comes next and think about how to say it.

What is your favorite time to write? I’m a night-owl, so it’s driven by biology.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Make “R.O.S.C.O.” your writing partner: R is for Reader O is for Outcome S is for Strategy C is for Content O is for Organization

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? The sheer selfish pleasure of sharing my life with intelligent, educated people who like to use their minds.

Karl Albrecht’s Blueprint for a New America: A Plan for Reinventing Our Republic to Meet the Challenges of a New World is out now with ‎Eyethink Books.
