Plantago lagopus

Plantago lagopus L. (Medit., Atl. Isl.) – A very rare and ephemeral alien. First recorded in 1978 in coastal dunes in Knokke, subsequently in 1985 in Oud-Turnhout. Since 1997 observed every now and then near grain mills in the port areas of Antwerp (2011, 2014) and Ghent (e.g. Verloove & Vandenberghe 1998). In 2014 also observed in a roadside in Deurne (Antwerp). Finally, it has also been observed as a weed in containers with Mediterranean trees in garden centers (Hoste & al. 2009).

Plantago lagopus is, in general habit, much reminiscent of P. lanceolata. It is immediately distinguished from the latter by its white-woolly inflorescences.
