It is the mission of the Aledo Lions Club Youth Basketball program to provide and promote a safe, recreational basketball program for the youth of Aledo. To this end, Aledo Lions Club encourages good sportsmanship, developing strong playing skills, and promoting friendly relationships among the players, coaches, referees and parents. Aledo Lions Youth Activities Inc is a 501c3 non profit organization and relies on the generosity of volunteers who give their time for the kids in our community.

Aledo Lions Club also sponsors girls youth volleyball and that link can be found here: Terry St. Peter's Aledo Lions Club Volleyball.

2023 -2024 Regular Season Information

REGISTRATION FOR GRADES 1st - 7/8th IS NOW CLOSED

Regular Registration for 2023-24 Season 1st thru 6th grades will be open September 9, 2023 thru October 9, 2023

Late Fee Registration will remain open thru 10/15/23.

7/8th Grade Co-ed will be open thru Friday, November 10th to accommodate Middle School tryouts with no late fee.

Aledo Lions Club Youth Sports is a 501c3 non-profit organization that encourages participation and helps develop skills.  We want to give our children an appreciation for the game as well as teach good sportsmanship and ask our volunteer parent and high school player coaches & player parents and grandparents to model this behavior.

Who can play: Our program is open to 1st thru 6th grade boys and 1st thru 6th grade girls and is grade level play.  We will also offer 7/8th Grade Co-Ed again this year.  As we continue to grow in Aledo, it is becoming necessary to limit the number of teams and players so do not delay in registering when enrollment opens.  We believe in a player count that allows solid court time for all players on a team.

Practices: Begin the week after Thanksgiving (Nov 27).  There are no practices during holiday breaks or days AISD is closed. Practices are held weeknights and are selected by the volunteer parent or HS player coaches.  We cannot guarantee practice dates/times but if you want to volunteer to coach, you can select what works for you! All practices and games are in Aledo.

Season Games: There will be 8 Season games played on 6 consecutive Saturday's with the first game starting after the AISD Holiday break (Jan. 13, 2024 - Feb. 17, 2024). Each team will have at least 2 double header game days (dependent on registrations and number of teams we have in each division could be more).  The last game day will have an end of season tournament for all divisions this year!  Players will have the opportunity for All Star Teams via coach nominations for extended tournament play through March 2, 2023.

Team/Player Alignment: We use a coach draft process to have parity across all teams, so we cannot accept friend or rideshare requests. Twins will be drafted together.  We hope to be able to have enough players in each division to avoid combining any grades and will announce in advance if that appears to be the only option.

Skills Evaluations/Tryouts 11/5/23: There is an evaluation date for coaches to watch players run through a set of drills, to aid in the drafting process for equitable teams. This is required for all registered players and will be held on Sunday, November 5th. Locations by grade/division will be announced once confirmed. Any new player to ALYBA that does not attend evaluations will be blind drafted but all players will make a team.  Blind draft simply means drawn at random out of a hat in snake draft order after all other players have been selected.

Parent Coaches: We rely on parents and high school players to volunteer to coach and you will register during your player registration process by choosing the volunteer option in the program offering for your player/s grade/s.  A volunteer ALYBA board member will contact you directly to discuss coaching and then notify you if you have been selected to coach.  Some grades we have more volunteer than we need, and some we have to search for, but we cannot do this without you! Selected coaches will need to complete a background check.

Practice gear/Uniforms: Game Day Jersey's are ordered during enrollment and are included in the $170 regular registration fee thru 10/9 or $195 for late registration thru 10/15. T-shirt fit size is sufficient for jersey size.  Youth sizes are shorter length than adult sizes. Players only need good basketball shoes and black athletic shorts for game days.  There is no other required gear or charge from ALYBA. Please see the League Coaches menu for game rules, goal heights, ball sizes, etc.
