ABARA CELEBRATES WOMEN’S DAY 2023

Dear Lady,

International Women's Day is observed in many countries to recognize women for the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women; It is a rallying point to build support for women's rights; It is a time to reflect on the progress made, to drive change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. Historically, Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 because of the women’s movements during the Russian Revolution of 1917, after which women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia.

ABARA was founded by Yuki Yang as a celebration of all women and their aspirations – and ABARA is Yuki’s gift to all women. Having overcome the many challenges in the male-dominated world of bespoke luxury, Yuki is keenly aware of the issues that women face in work and in business. She firmly believes that her understanding of women allow her to be a designer attuned to women’s needs. Starting ABARA from scratch has made her a strong advocate for female empowerment and gender parity, and it is her mission to inspire women to become their true authentic self.

We also take this occasion to honour the other women who make ABARA possible.

Fiona, 30, Designer and Operations Manager

What is a woman? Being a woman is more than just being ‘assigned female’ at birth; it is also one's identity and expression. Being a woman is deeper and beyond cultural stereotypes, there's just so much more to explore about women.

Who inspires me. The powerhouse women in my family inspire me the most. They taught me to be confident and independent; their knowledge, acumen and strength in dealing with life inspire me to become a better and more assured version of myself each day. On this Women's Day I would like to celebrate my mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and ABARA's founder, Yuki Yang.

My greatest achievements The bags I've designed with ABARA and the milestones such as the 111 Somerset showroom opening, and soon to be unveiled retail store in Ngee Ann City!

The Power of Women. Women are like water. We are powerful in being versatile, variable and adaptable. And just like water, which can form into any mold, women can be anything too.

The Woman I Celebrate My mother. She is the epitome of equanimity and kindness; Not only is she selflessly devoted to her family, she also is strongly principled and never waivers in her beliefs. She has tolerated me in spite of all my shortcomings and she has never failed to give me wise advice and guidance. She has always been my moral compass and her belief in me powers my life and motivates me in all that I do.

Daphne Mo, 47, Brand Manager

What Is A Woman? A woman is a miracle of nature, because a woman is a giver of life. The birthing of a child is one of those miraculous things that only a woman can give to the world.

Proudest Achievements In Life Becoming a mother to my two amazing daughters now 9, and 11 years old.

All About my Mother Being a mother myself now, I am inspired by my own mother, who has made so many sacrifices for our family. Her unconditional love for her children, and her endless support for me in all matters truly deserves to be celebrated.

 Shannon Lee, 26, E-Commerce Specialist

My Proudest Achievement When I became an E-Commerce specialist, after studying for so many years, and having earned diplomas in visual communication and mass communication, and web communication and marketing degree. This is something I have always wanted to do and I’m grateful to get this opportunity.

The Woman I Celebrate Rachel Lim, who is the co-founder of Love Bonito, gave up her studies in order to build up Love Bonito. She became a self-made millionaire at a young age, with Love Bonito outlets across 6 South-East Asian countries; This entrepreneurial spirit really inspires me.
