In 2005, Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media released a major motion picture based upon C. S. Lewis' iconic children's book, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. In conjunction with this film, Traveller's Tales and Buena Vista Games created an action-adventure video game set in the same universe, issued a month before the movie's release. Narnia follows the plot of the movie very closely, as the Pevensie children find their way into Narnia through an old wardrobe and proceed to help the indigenous creatures fight off the evil White Witchwho usurped power and holds the land in a perpetual state of winterin the name of the rightful ruler, Aslan. The game features the talents of William Moseley (Peter), Skandar Keynes (Edmund), Anna Popplewell (Susan), and Georgie Henley (Lucy), among others, voicing their roles from the film. The game also includes music and introductory clips from the film, which are featured as the player advances a level, or are unlocked through the collection of coins and other bonus items. As a basic fantasy adventure, Narnia follows a linear style of gameplay consisting of 15 levels. Players utilize stealth skills, puzzle-solving strategies and combat elements as they guide the Pevensie children from 1940s London into and through the land of Narnia. Players choose which sibling to control and can switch between characters or use multiple children simultaneously to execute cooperative attacks. Each character possesses unique abilities and combat specialties that are required to overcome certain obstacles. Compatible with Xbox, PlayStation 2, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance, the game varies slightly between the handheld and console systems. For handhelds, the game includes 17 chapters and only one character can be controlled per chapter, with no ability to switch during the level. The player follows the same general plot and uses similar combat skills, but the handheld version provides slightly different tasks and introduces an additional point system for leveling up' the characters.
