How to: Boleo / Voleo

  • Dancify Eikenga 11 Oslo, Oslo, 0579 Norway (map)

Boleos, or Voleos, are dynamic and fun movements that can be used to great effect when timed well with the sharp rhythmical accents so common in Tango music. They are, however, technically challenging for both leaders and followers, and if not done correctly, or with good spatial awareness, they can be dangerous. With this seminar we hope to show you how you can lead, follow and execute boleos safely and comfortably, as well as using different techniques for different kinds of boleos, to change the speed, timing and style of the movement.

Skills that we will work on:

  • Solo exercises for different boleos
  • Partner exercises to improve the lead, connection and timing
  • Low, medium and high back boleos
  • Front boleos
  • Circular and linear boleos

Some problems we hope to eliminate

  • Lack of connection/timing
  • Uncomfortable lead
  • Stiff/heavy leg movements
  • Back injuries
  • Dangerous angles of boleos

Level: Intermediate/Advanced

We always strive to adapt the level of these classes on an individual basis, to simplify movements and focus on learning the right technique for less experienced dancers, and to challenge more experienced dancers with refining their technique and mastery of each movement. To benefit from this seminar you should feel comfortable in both parallel and cross systems, and with leading/following forward and backward ochos.
