Siobhan Doolan enjoys Newbury win for David Pipe with Dell’ Arca

21-08-2018

It was 787 days since David Pipe’s DELL’ ARCA  had run on the Flat back in 2016 but there was no stopping him when partnered by Siobhan Doolan on 18th August at Newbury for the Sportsguide Handicap for lady riders.

Held up at the rear of the field, his rider began to make a move 3 furlongs out and switched left to lead inside the final furlong to deny Isabel Williams and WITH PLEASURE, winning by one and a half lengths.

Many congratulations to winning connections.

GEORGE EDDERY enjoys 1st win with 3rd ride at Catterick

20-08-2018

The second amateur race of Friday afternoon was held at Catterick where 10 went to post for the Yorkshire Dales Distillery Handicap over one and a half miles.

Emily Easterby made much of the running with BOLLIN JOAN until joined 3 furlongs from home by Catherine Walton and MIDNIGHT WARRIOR looking the likely winners, but George Eddery (having only his third ride) on David Elsworth’s COUNTRY’N’WESTERN had them firmly in his sights.  Having missed the break quite badly, George showed immense patience and never panicked in the early stages of the race, calmly presenting his horse with perfect timing to wear down the opposition and win by half a length.

Many congratulations to George on a day to remember and well done to winning connections.

BETFAIR gives CHARLIE TODD first career win at Nottingham!

20-08-2018

Friday saw two well supported amateur Flat races within 30 minutes of one another, the first being the 5th race of the 8 race BETFAIR series at Nottingham, held under the watchful eye of BHA Jockey Coach Russ Garritty.
There were 9 runners for this race run over a mile and two, with several taking a keen hold in the early stages. Sarah Bowen led the field aboard GLACIER FOX for Tom Tate with Charlie Todd having BORN TO SPEND nicely settled in a first time hood until making a move and heading the leader about 5 furlongs from home. The front pair tussled for the lead with Born To Spend running on well from a furlong out to win by 2 3/4 lengths, with Sarah and Glacier Fox second, a neck in front of Ellie MacKenzie and BORN TO PLEASE.
This was a great result for 17-year-old Charlie being his first career winner and he was cheered into the winner’s enclosure by his overjoyed parents who made the trip from North Yorkshire. His father Darren said “There’ll be celebrations when we get home!” Charlie said “That was fantastic and it’s been a long time coming. Born To Spend just kept finding for me – I’ll never forget this.” Well done Charlie and winning connections!🏆👏👍👌🏇🌬🎉🥂🍾
The series now moves on to Ripon on Bank Holiday Monday where Tim Reed will be back in action at BHA Jockey Coach. The series is currently led by Billy Garritty who has enjoyed three 2nds so far but is yet to ride a winner in the series! Hopefully Billy won’t have to wait very long.

Red Charmer wins White Rose at Beverley for Becky Smith

17-08-2018

The in-form Becky Smith, who currently leads the ladies jumps championship and is no slouch in the ladies flat championship with 4 wins already to her name this season, regained the runner-up slot alongside Emily Easterby when enjoying a fine win in the White Rose Saddlery Handicap at Beverley on Thursday afternoon aboard RED CHARMER for Marjorie Fife.

14 went to post for the race over a mile and half a furlong with the running being made by MAKE ON MADAM and reigning lady champion Serena Brotherton.  The complexion of the race changed 3 furlongs from home when several of those held up in the rear of the field started to make a move, with multiple gentleman champion Simon Walker aboard VIGEE LE BRUN taking up the lead and going clear.   However, their efforts proved futile when headed in the last 100 yards by Becky Smith and RED CHARMER who went on to score by two and a half lengths, with Simon Walker and VIGEE LE BRUN second and reigning gentleman champion Patrick Millman a length and a half third on JOHN CAESAR.

Well done Becky on a great ride and many congratulations to winning connections!  The ladies championship has never been more competitive than this season with Serena currently on 6 wins, 1 clear of both Becky and Emily currently on 5 apiece and plenty of races yet to come!  Good luck all!

Tom Midgley enjoys 1st career success with Betfair at Thirsk!

15-08-2018

The opener at Thirsk on Tuesday evening was the 4th race in this year’s Betfair Novice Riders Series with 8 runners and riders racing over 7 furlongs under the watchful eye of BHA Jockey Coach Russ Garritty.

Many congratulations to Tom Midgley on a great ride on his father’s START TIME making all and running on well inside the final furlong to win by a couple of lengths. Billy Garritty was 2nd on Richard Fahey’s KHELMAN a neck in front of Marcus Haigh on SIZE MATTERS. This was Tom’s first career winner so a day for him never to forget – well done!

Many thanks to our sponsors Betfair for this excellent series and thanks too to Thirsk Executive for their help and support.

The series now moves on to Nottingham this Friday.

Serena Brotherton surges clear in ladies title with ITLAAQ winning by a head!

13-08-2018

The final race of Sunday’s card at Royal Windsor featured 11 runners for the starsports.bet Handicap over a mile and three and produced the finish of the day!

It’s quite something to enjoy a hat trick, and when a horse 3 times the age of most of his rivals keeps winning its even more special. Many congratulations to Serena Brotherton on a day to remember when enjoying her third win from three rides with Mick Easterby’s 12 year old ITLAAQ. Biding her time, Serena turned for home hugging the inside rail, taking up the lead 3 furlongs out. PARTY ROYAL under David Dunsdon put up a mighty battle inside the final furlong but ITLAAQ would not be denied and won in a photo finish by a head, much to the delight of the crowd.

Well done Serena who now surges into a clear lead for the ladies championship with this being her 6th win of the season!🏆👏👍🥂🏇🌬👌
