Alex Ferrer

ALEX FERRER, a former civil litigator and Circuit Court judge, serves as a Mediator, Arbitrator, Special Master, Receiver and Insurance Umpire in an of counsel capacity to the Reyes Law Firm.
A frequent legal commentator on FOX News, CNN, Headline News, MSNBC and broadcast networks, Mr. Ferrer possesses over 25 years of legal experience as both a lawyer and a judge. Prior to joining the firm, he spent 10 years as a Circuit Court Judge on Florida’s Eleventh Judicial Circuit after enjoying a successful legal practice with reputable local and national law firms in Miami.
His experience includes civil litigation in the areas of personal injury and commercial law, during which he represented individual plaintiffs, insurance companies, leasing companies, self-insured national corporations, various agencies and departments of the State of Florida, banks and other businesses in lawsuits stemming from general commercial litigation disputes, real property matters and contract issues, as well as cases involving wrongful death, medical malpractice, and general personal injury. As sole legal counsel, he handled cases involving complex issues of foreign law, both substantive and procedural, as well as the defense of multi-million dollar claims brought by some of the most prestigious law firms and attorneys in South Florida. As a Circuit Court Judge for over 10 years, he handled thousands of cases and hundreds of trials, expanding his extensive legal experience to include family law issues of child custody and support, equitable distribution of property, general financial matters, adoptions and disputes over paternity. Since 1997, he has taught and continues to teach Circuit and County judges at Florida’s various judicial conferences and judicial colleges, and annually publishes a “bench book” on closing arguments used by judges throughout Florida.
Trained by the American Arbitration Association, Mr. Ferrer has arbitrated over 500 cases to judgment, applying the laws of many different states, including commercial cases involving contract disputes, fraud and misrepresentation, civil theft, construction litigation, copyright infringement and other business related issues; as well as personal injury claims including premises liability cases, actions for inadequate security, slip and fall cases, automobile accident claims and general negligence litigation.
As a Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator for Circuit, Family and County Court, Mr. Ferrer has mediated and co-mediated commercial litigation matters including general business disputes, contract breaches, mortgage foreclosures and fraud claims; family law matters including issues of child support, alimony and equitable distribution; civil rights violation cases containing both state and federal claims; and personal injury suits involving motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls and other premises liability claims. Matters in dispute have ranged from small claims cases to commercial disputes with damages amounting to millions of dollars.
He was admitted to the Florida Bar and the District of Colombia Bar in 1986, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida in 1987.
