Album Review: Eurovision Song Contest 2010

Eurovision 2010

Release date

It's out 17 May 2010.

The style

Eurovision is back and this double album features all of the songs from the 39 countries entering the competition this year.

There's a real mix of songs on this album - from upbeat pop tracks that make you want to dance to rock songs as well as slower, sing along tunes.

Because there are so many different styles of music on this album there's definitely something for everyone but this also means there might be quite a few tracks you'll want to skip.

The hits

It's really hard to decide who's going to do well in this year's contest.

Germany is represented by Lena, whose pop song Satellite is one of the best tracks to dance to and sounds a little bit like Lily Allen.

Josh Dubrovie will be representing the UK at Eurovision 2010

The power ballad Drip Drop, sung by Safura is the entry for Azerbijan. This is a good track to sing along to and will probably do quite well in the competition.

Josh Dubovie will be representing the UK with a song called That Sounds Good To Me. He was picked after taking part in Eurovision: Your Country Needs You.

The misses

There are quite a few cheesy songs on this album like Butterflies by 3+2, the entry for Belarus.

Malcolm Lincoln from Estonia is singing quite a depressing song called Siren. It's not very upbeat and doesn't really fit in with the other songs on the album.

Apricot Stone, the Armenian song from Eva Rivas has some really weird lyrics as well.

Will you still be humming it next week?

There are one or two catchy tracks like Me and My Guitar by Tom Dice of Belgium along with Satellite and Drip Drop. A lot of the tracks are quite forgettable though.

Will it make the charts?

Over 125 million people from across Europe tuned in to watch Eurovision last year so the album should do quite well.

It's unlikely that many of the tracks will make the single chart though!

NR rating:
Three out of five

Your Comments

"Half the songs are rubbish and some people can't even sing! Why can't more people with good songs get in? Ireland's entry was rubbish and I have no shame in saying so!"

Hannah, 12, County Galway, Ireland

"I always love watching Eurovision. I already have this on my iPod! My favourite songs are We Could be The Same, Sweet People and Ove Je Balkans! I also love Satellite!"

Lucy, 12, Manchester, England

"The only good ones are Germany and France! God. Why can't we have decent talent for England?"

Kay, 11, Swansea, Wales

"I loved Germany and Azerbaijan and Georgia! No offence but England's song was boring. We need to pump it up a little."

Georgie, 10, Oxfordshire, England

"This album is alright. There are lots of bad songs but a few of the others are quite catchy. I don't think that it deserves 3 stars though."

Charlotte, 11, Southampton, England

"This album is OK but some of the songs are horrible! The best are Satellite and Playing With Fire. They ROCK!"

Rosa, 11, London, England

"This is the worst album ever! It's a total waste of time and money! I rate it 0/100."

Delza, 12, London, England

"I only listen to the songs in English because you can't understand the other songs. There's some good songs but don't buy it if you don't like all the songs."

Katie, 11, Sussex, England

"I think it's really too modern and there aren't any good songs."

Lucy, 9, London, England

"The album is absolutely terrible. I would actually prefer to listen to a baby screaming."

Jemima, 12, Cambridgeshire, England

"I love Eurovision because it is so cheesy. The songs are nowhere near as good as last year and some of them can't really sing but it will make you laugh and dance!"

Katherine, 13, Wiltshire, England

"I don't see the point in buying this CD. Let's face it, no-one likes Eurovision."

Kate, 10, Yorkshire, England

"I love this album. It's great and Eurovision is too!"

Lia, 9, Wrexham, Wales

"This album is great. I think England's song is really bad though."

Casper, 12, London, England

"I think it is awful. Some of the people can't even sing!"

Chloe, 12, Loire Valley, France

"Don't buy the album. I just got it off my nan and it is sooo bad!"

Abby, 14, Newcastle, England

"Some songs are good but the others don't go well with the whole album."

Kamilla, 12, London, England

"Please don't buy this album, it is terrible! It only has some good songs on and is way too pricey for what it is!"

Hannah, 13, Essex, England

"This album ROCKS, it truly is amazing! With a big variety of songs it can appeal to everyone! My favourite song is Drip Drop, as is our candidate who sounds good to me. I can't wait for the contest, it's the only thing decent on nowadays and I will certainly be watching!"

Brenda, 11, Essex, England

"I've always loved Eurovision ever since I was very little. My mother bought me this album and it's very good, especially my country's song. It's great seeing other countries get together for a change instead of arguing over politics, and because it's being judged by musical experts it will be fair."

Vivienne, 14, Kiev, Ukraine

"This album has a real mix of songs, they're just not very good!!"

Jasmine, 13, Cambridge, England

"I think that it is very good that you get to listen to other songs that different countries like. That is my fave part of watching the Eurovision Song Contest!"

Rebecca, 11, Lancashire, England

"Don't buy the album. Instead just buy all the decent songs individually because most of the album is bad although there are some good ones."

Louise, 14, Surrey, England

"Eww terrible album - it's majorly gross."

Zara, 14, Manchester, England
